uggghhh.. After originally feeling 4 to 5 concern based on what the CEO had said just a few weeks ago.. We get an email today with this:

So.. now my anxiety has risen to a 8.. and of all days as today marks my 1 year with the company.. Hoping it isn't the "Low man on the totem pole" type of thing..  

At least they are talking about Furloughs, meaning we'd keep our health benefits..

just had another company contact me this week regarding a Full time work from home position.... so... if they are going to drop the hammer I hope it is sooner rather then later so I can reach back out to them. 

Reach back out to the new possibility...don't wait.

Entire hospital, Director level and above 10% pay cut effective immediately, and it gets worse for Executives at 20%. 

Trying to negotiate more "work at home" days to offset some of the money lost.

-Years of 2-3% raises yearly if at all during the Great Recession, in the last couple years there have been larger increases to keep staff since unemployment was so low and now we lose everything we worked so hard to earn, all over again.

Nope in the cover times.  Are state says to answer all the questions like you are looking for work, but you really don't have to.

Rcd an email that says we are tentatively scheduled for two days next week. Doing surgery that is deemed emergency. I suspect these surgeries will be glaucoma surgery or facial reconstrucion following moes surgery but I wont know until I get there. According to admin they are looking at mid May to truly start up again. We are a stand alone surgery center but according to admin the hospitals are really pushing to allow elective surgery. He says the hospitals are going broke and elective surgery is where they make their money. I dont know how true that is but it is what I was told.

On the other side, I'm helping my older brother with his claims.  His company gave him a mass layoff number and letter.  I created the application and it was approved.  Yet every claim he has entered since the approval has been denied.  No rhyme or reason.  No where to enter notes/ask questions.  It's crazy!  He's the one that really needs the money, and yet he can't receive anything even though he was approved.

Hospitals are getting killed just like every other business that is closed.  No surgeries, rehabs or PT's means no revenue.

Mr krista has experienced exactly the same as your brother’s claim.  He was approved overall, but then every weekly claim has been rejected.  About 3/4 of the employees at his restaurant are having the same luck.  And of course, there’s no way to call and talk to anyone to fix it.

CIO held a meeting with all of IT this morning.. No IT employees will be part of this Furlough.
No guarantees, of course, that if things don't turn around we won't be impacted later..

Our Team of 6 is responsible for O365.....  I.E. Outlook, SharePoint and most importantly MS Teams.
With the company of almost 8,000 basically all Working from home, keeping these system running is top priority.
Have to think/hope that if there are more furlough's at a later date our team will be relatively safe. 

Interviewed with the other company just to be safe.. Long story short, I decided to stick with my current position for now.. 
Longer version..

If this was a year ago I'd have jumped at the opportunity.. But pay would be the same as what I just got promoted to, with less in benefits (health, PTO, etc.)..
Reached a point in the conversation where they asked "So, do you feel you want to consider pursuing this position"..
Basically sounded like they were ready to move to the next interview step to hire..
Told them that although the position did sound intriguing, I wasn't quite ready to "jump ship" right now.
They said they completely understood and if things change in the next week, month or year to contact them as they are always looking to fill the type of position I am qualified to perform.

It’s absolutely true. All the profit is in elective/invasive surgeries. Mayo Clinic is losing $150 million a month. 70-90% of revenues are gone. Over 100 health systems have had massive layoffs. In what once was considered a recession proof industry. By the way, on average hospitals are losing $1,000 per COVID-19 per patient.

This is a non-counted death of Covid. Because we were so radical in our shutdown people like this may/will/have died. I bet there will be more deaths associated with the fallout than there will be from the virus.

We are not doing anything like that unless it’s known cancer. Its basically considered optional if they feel holding off a few weeks (months) isn’t going to make any difference in treatment. I believe we are hoping to be doing more elective and semi urgent stuff starting in early- mid May. I know our  joint docs have been told soon. There is going to be such an incredible backlog, we are going to be swamped. We were swamped before canceling all these cases. We were doing roughly 80-100 cases a day before this and have still been doing 30-40 a day on average. If it’s something that’s likely going to get worse without action we’re doing it.

Have to file for unemployment with the state of Maryland (and feds?) and then the company will cover the the balance up to 60% of my salary.  But unemployment payments take like 5 weeks to process right now from what I hear.

The worst part is that my entire work group ~20 ppl is the only one affected like this. All others ~150 will be on 80% work and 80% pay (Fridays off).

The reason stated is that the product our group develops is much better than the competition, whereas the other groups are lagging the competition. I get the logic, but it's a crappy reward for making good products that beat the competition.

that's messed up, you're being penalized for producing a better product? seems like a good co. would just proportion everything out.

It'll cost the company probably $10m in incremental revenue next year, but nothing in 2020.

I think we will see it, although I could see it getting pushed back.  I know people that stuck through the bankruptcy years ago got taken care of.  I plan to just treat it as my bonus next year since I’m assuming that is gone.  Probably depends how things go the rest of the year too

im still not sure how we qualify for the PPP since we are a Fortune 500 company, but yeah I’m basically working Tuesday-Thursday through June.  I also though we were allowed to take an occasional meeting or phone call during those COVID Cares days just not a full day 

I’m sure there will be the annual 5% culling at the end of the year as well

Feel fine for my job. All salaried employees in our company is being asked to take one week furlough, timing is our discretion but must be completed by mid-June. Top several layers of executives took pay cut. This helps minimize letting any employees go. I like this approach. Company is $20 billion global company.

Finally got a hold of someone by phone on Monday.  Took 10 mins, but managed to get my application fixed.  She even took a look at my brother's and told me what to have him tell the next operator.  I gave him the phone and he managed to get his fixed the same day.  Took many, many calls every day over the last 2 weeks, but we got it done.  

Still waiting to hear from my last employer about the next project.  Sounds like it is in the approval process, so best case scenario is it will start early May.  I've talked to a couple of recruiters, but no openings near me in Cincy.  The closest one was Joliet, IL - which apparently the recruiter cannot fill.

I originally voted 1, and Im still in that thought process. However, we did have furloughs (not I) and executives took pay cuts from 3-40%, depending upon position/salary. The plan for those furloughed is indefinite. Original plan was 4-6 weeks, but the company wanted to be upfront and let people know it could be longer.

Our company (manufacturing, computer related) recently announced first quarter results and it seems we're doing fairly well. As long as the supply chain holds up I think we'll be fine. My wife's industry (home construction) might not fare so well, so a little more concerned there.
