They've hinted through the season that he'll meet her at Punchy's (or Barney's) wedding at the end of the season. A new possibility is also on the table in that the Mother will be Barney's college student half-sister mentioned in passing last night.

Terrible episode. This season has really gone to crap.

Two different episodes this season where they have destroyed barney's character.

The episode with the girlfriend who made him go from hippie barney to suit barney (vader style) was funny yet had hints of lame.

The dad episode definitely examined his character more, but I see the direction they are going with this.... to ultimately say that Barney has been living a lie for the last decade or so with his drinking/womanizing/suit ways when it's really not him.

Well I don't want him to not be him.

This is starting to go as badly as season 6 of Lost.

A little close to home?

They are gearing things to allow Barney to settle down. I think the show is winding down and will only be on maybe one more season. The whole premise of the show doesn't leave it enough room to be a long running show.

You guys want Barney to stay like he is forever? That's "funny" for awhile. But then it's creepy. Ever seen a 45 year old perv with a mustache that still hits on tons of chicks and never settled down? It's kind of sad.

Barney needs to settle down. But I can see both sides.

I'm sure some people would love to see the series finale end with Barney breaking up with a girl, looking into the camera, winking and saying "Suit Up".....while others would love to see him finally settle down.

I don't think in a show like this you can make both people happy.

I really liked Monday's episode, but I do think they are getting a little soft. Time to have 3-4 hilarious shows in a row without drama.

Pretty sure that is the Russell Dunbar/David Spade character from Rules of Engagement. And, yeah, its pretty sad.

The softness has needed to happen for a while. I don't doubt they'll get the funny episodes in there, but it's about time we stopped the shtick and explore the characters that we've seen for six years now. That was Friends' mistake - they never really dropped the shtick. This show isn't going to last much longer, we might as well figure out what's going to happen to these guys.

well i assume we're not getting to "45" here. No, I wouldn't want a friend to be like that forever. But they don't have to portray him as a total pansy like they did in the hippie pre-suit barney episode and the "with his dad" barney episode.I've just lost respect for the character.. that's all... and his character made the show.

The only part of that episode I really enjoyed was Marshall describing all the things he did to test how much the gang would let him get away with. Getting close to taking this off of my record list.

Why the hell are you ragging on the hippy Barney? If that caused you to lose respect for Barney, you've hated Barney for 5 years then. They first revealed hippie-Barney in the first season ("Game Night" to be exact") and it's been part of the lore ever since.

sorry, i must have missed that episode or maybe that entire season.

i agree the ep on Monday was not its best and mostly meh, but still like the show. Have to show some softer sides of Barney once in awhile to keep the legendary side funny IMO.

FYI, renewed for 2 more years...

Mad Love will be the HIMYM replacement.
That is a good show. Came out of nowhere for me.
Really? I don't think it's very good.
Me either. IMO the fat bearded guy is not on the same funny planet as barney...or even marshall.
I think it's watchable, but definitely not great. It's like a homeless man's HIMYM.I actually think it could be better without Stella (whoever that actress is). She seems to keep getting roles in comedy's, but she has a big problem of not being funny at all, imo. I didn't like her in the Stella role either, outside of an episode or 2 in the beginning of her arc. Incredibly hot, but not funny .I watch the show because, for some reason, I really love Judy Greer. I think she's great. The fat dude is pretty funny too (even if he's no Barney or Marshall, few are).

thought last nights episode was ok. thought it was going to be a lot funnier. I did like the line though when Zoey told Ted that he has run up quite a tab.

Zoey was brutal. Just a completely unlikeable character.
The whole storyline was forced. Zoey would have been great as a "bad guy" character, but the writers chickened out and made her just barely sympathetic enough to reel you in. So instead of hating Zoey, I end up hating myself for having watched. Ugh.

It just didnt make sense - she tapes Ted and plays it to the board in a clear sucker punch slimy move and yet after he gets the ruling he runs after her and looks like he even wants her back....awful

:goodposting:The tape recorder was proof that she was just using Ted the entire time. Yet the script didn't even address that plot point. All Ted can muster is "I can't believe she saved the tape." YES TED, NOT ONLY DID SHE SAVE THE TAPE, BUT SHE WAS KEEPING IT IN HER PURSE THE ENTIRE TIME SHE WAS WITH YOU SO THAT SHE COULD WHIP IT OUT AND SCREW YOU OVER AT THE WORST POSSIBLE TIME!!!Also, why was it mandatory for Ted to answer Yes or No to the landmark question? Couldn't he just say something diplomatic?

What was the Barney line when he was sitting at the other table? Something about "Fine and 'gine"? Best line of the episode.

Agreed, hated Zoey and the whole Arcadia story line too.

I think you guys missed that he saw it coming...so he essentially said goodbye the night before. Running after her was just a final goodbye, not wanting her back.

Repeat last night of the episode that introduced the slap bet and Robin Sparkles. This show used to be hilarious.
