How I Met Your Mother (2 Viewers)

As I said, if this stunt help get HIMYM picked up, then I was all for it. And initially it looks like it has helped...

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - A guest appearance by Britney Spears gave the CBS sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" its highest viewership of the season on Monday, and assures the modest performer will be renewed for a fourth season in the fall.

"Mother" pulled in about 10.6 million viewers, a huge spike from its season-to-date average of 7.8 million, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Critics were relatively impressed. "Spears proved she can act every bit as well as she can sing," wrote the New York Daily News. "Brit looked slim, (OK she was behind a desk), trim and gorgeous," wrote the New York Post.

"Mother" was the fourth-highest-rated show of the evening, and CBS won the night (averaging 12.5 million viewers), even as the rest of its comedy lineup dropped slightly from last week's record-setting return to original episodes.

Spears, whose professional achievements have been engulfed by an avalanche of marital, health and legal woes in recent years, played a dermatology office secretary named Abby. She said in a statement issued two weeks ago, while shooting her scenes, that she was having "a blast."

"How I Met Your Mother," narrated through flashbacks from the future, stars Josh Radnor as a man who is joined in his quest for true love by his lecherous pal, played by Neil Patrick Harris.
Backhanded complement of the year nominee, 2008.

Not sure why people thought Britney did well "acting"...there was no acting involved. She played a psycho whore...how hard was that for her to get into character. She has been doing that for years.

How is the nerd show now in the 8 o'clock slot and HIMYM 8:30????That nerd show is freaking terrible. Every joke is a rehash and the characters are annoying. Meanwhile, HIMYM is freaking hysterical.Makes no sense.
I love both shows actually.

Big time agree! That show is one of the worst shows on tv
I guess CBS and it's viewers (myself included) disagree with you. The Big Bang Theory is 1,000x better than HIMYM, hence it's promotion to the 2nd best sitcom timeslot, while HIMYM gets bumped to the loser slot. This show trails only Family Guy as worst over-rated junk on TV. :goodposting:
Umm...I like both shows...but HIMYM is better.

I saw the first two episodes of Big Bang Theory since it was the show leading up to HIMYM. I thought the show is decent with alright jokes if you can follow along. Show is targeted for young men and I think its timeslot at 8:00pm before HIMYM because its trying to expand its audience to younger men viewers and hoping the viewers of Big Bang Theory stick around and watch HIMYM.HIMYM is still a better show, due it having more substance.

Pretty good episode...focused on Barney and all the girls that slept with him.

Good ending...brought back memories of Doggie Howser as they played the theme music and him typing on his computer. Good stuff

Wonder if they've been saving that one for a special occasion, or if half way through the first couple of seasons they realized that the guy they were planning the whole show around wasn't the star and Barney was. By the way, Marshal's character has sucked since the return. Like all of the other writers came back and his didn't.

I just wish the song didn't take 9 minutes to start to get funny. By the time they're patching in the hand claps, the sitar, and the out of tune sax it's hilarious. But I thought the first half of the song was kind of a slog.

Yeah...though I loved the "what should I do with my hands...what do I normally do with my hands" line.Reminded me of Talladega Nights when Farrell first starts getting interviewed.

Was there an old lady in the quick scan of Barney's conquests that go through his head?

My wife erased the dvr recording right after we watched it, so I couldn't go back and check.

Yes. It was a nice touch.I also like how they brought the same actress back to play the "I Love You" girl he left in the apartment.

That was Madeline Albright. She was also the "government official" who Lily mentions when looking at the scrapbook.

ok so at the end they focused on the blonde in the backround of the pic of Barney. Ted's voice over says that barney figured out who she was later but thats a story for another time....

Perhaps she is the Mother? Did Barney bang the Mother????

I also liked the "One Shining Moment" montage towards the end.

Seems like they have gone away from the Ted storyline and put the Sarah Chalke character as his girlfriend so he won't be pursuing any new girls. I guess they are building up the other characters, I'm assuming the next episode will revolve around Robin.

On a sidenote...I think we've all dreamed of screaming at our boss at least once in our lives.

That show has a small built in audience...what I'm shocked about is Hells Kitchen at 4th place. Didn't believe that show was soo popular.

I fought every ounce of the feeling.[close up on hand balling into fist] :goodposting:

You dont look as good in a suit as you think you do!

no no, yell about something thats true....

you and your brother have different fathers since your mother is so slutty! Bob Barker is NOT your dad!!

I think this new story line has legs. It has been discussed before that these 2 would end up being together, so not too much of a surprise.

In the Robin Sparkles song, "I'm on the pill now" had me :bag:

I love this show. The Office, Scrubs, HIMYM, and Rules of Engagement make up my must see comedy lineup. Glad to see the writers back.

Awesome story line twist with Ted/Barney "breaking up", along with the foreshadowing of Robin living with Ted next year. How are Robin/Ted living together next year if she's really "Aunt Robin"?

Glad to see it didnt end up in a relationship between the two.

You can never break the "bro code". I have to get a copy of that to show it to some of my friends.

I'm guessing it will be a pure roommate situation after Marshall/Lilly legitimately move out to their own place. But the whole element of trying to see how they arrive at the situation will be fun. BTW, the Limo driver was hilarious.
