How I Met Your Mother (1 Viewer)

Thought this was a very good episode. I like how they showed how Barney met the wife. I wonder if they will do that for everyone else? Really cool episode.

Well, we already saw how Lily met Ted's wife. All that's left is Marshall and Robin.

On an aside note, I kinda remembered a bit of a plot hole that opened up. Ted already met the roommate of his future wife, and thought the roommate was the best thing ever after seeing all the stuff in the apt. So when Ted gets the band for Robin through his former girlfriend (roommate of future wife) so why is he not all excited about the chance to meet this person whom he thought was awesome?

 
Caught up. I'm still enjoying it. I think last nights episode was just more justification for Teds decision to move to Chicago (obviously he won't make it there though).

Episode "DJ or Band" last season. Here's a writeup that describes the moment in question.

The same night, Robin agrees to meet her dad one more time. He apologizes for getting married without consulting her and is going to get a divorce from Carol to make things right. He asks if it was what she wanted. Robin says that all she wants is a normal dad. She wants him to give Barney permission to marry her, come to the wedding, give her away, and dance with her like a normal dad, but he only agrees to one dance. He says that he'll see her at the wedding. She tells Ted about this and says that it is amazing that Barney made her dad apologize to her when he has never done it before in his life and that Barney must really love her. Ted says that Barney would be crazy not to and that he is really happy for them, but she should still consider getting a DJ. Future Ted says that he made a really strong case that night, but Robin wanted a band.

Four months later, Ted meets Cindy and her partner Casey on a train ride, a week before Barney and Robin's wedding. He tells them that the band that was hired to play at the wedding cancelled, and asks them if they know a wedding band. Cindy tells him that she recently had brunch with her ex-roommate (The Mother), and her band is available for the weekend to play at the wedding. Ted says that he is lucky to run into both of them.

Future Ted says that "lucky" doesn't even begin to describe it, because if Barney and Robin had taken his stupid advice and hired a DJ, he never would have met the mother. A flashforward to the wedding shows the band playing. Ted sees the bass player and smiles.

Ted had previously assumed that Cindy's "cool roommate" was the same lesbian who kissed Cindy at the bar (and later married her). So when Cindy mentioned an "ex roommate" who was in a band, it wouldn't have registered in his brain that she might be the "cool roommate" from 2010.

Not quite right. When he first Cindy's girlfriend was her roommate. But clearly knew that wasn't the case once he saw them kiss.

Also, when Cindy told him about the ex-roommate's band availability, Cindy was with her wife/girlfriend and baby, so Ted knew it obviously wasn't her.

 
My point is that it's not unreasonable for Ted to assume that Cindy's "ex roommate band member" is not the same person as Cindy's roommate from 3 years earlier. For all Ted knows, Cindy could have had dozens of ex-roommates over the years.

How many were likely to be in a band. Remember, Ted knew that the roommate played bass.

 
I'm holding on but it's getting difficult. Has been pretty bad for 2 years now. But with 8 episodes left it's hard to give up now.

 
Agreed, they're just so obviously stretching this thing out for all it's worth it's hard to watch. That rhyming episode was one of the most brutal things I've ever sat through on TV.

The rhyming episode was terriawful. I thought this one was ok. Will definitely hang to the end.

 
After a two-hour marathon, I'm caught up for the season. I've never wanted a series to end so badly for a show that I once liked.

 
Just bordering on hate watching at this point. Every once in awhile, there's a decent episode, but they are few and far between anymore. This season has had maybe 2 good ones so far.

They're almost doing us a favor. I remember being sad when TV shows would end as a kid. As an adult I've wondered what's happened to some characters. With this, I could care less now. I still look forward to seeing what Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan do with their future careers. I'd like to see more of Lyndsy Fonseca.

THAT was a great episode. You could tell they'd been planning it for a while and they put a lot of thought and care into it.

Yeah, there were 1 or 2 minor funny moments. I also liked the long description of Ted's training (something along the lines of "some may call it picky and overbearing but its really just thorough and detail-oriented")

This. The slapping eps are usually great, but last night was weak. A couple of semi funny lines, but overall, it kinda sucked. Total filler episode.

Had "filler" written all over it... It added nothing to the season, could have did without it... Marshall training for slapping Barney was terrible..

The only good news is that Marshall still has 1 slap left and I'm sure he'll use it during the wedding.

Fixed.

Every episode of this show lately is like a slap in the face, but for some reason I can't stop. Hoping that once they get to the reveal and start winding up it will pick up.

:shrug: This season has been so awful that last night's show was like a life raft in the middle of the ocean. Was it one of their best? No way. But it made me laugh and it reminded me of why I used to like the show in the first place.So there.

I'm still waiting :lmao:

I'm hoping for a grand slam on the bottom of the ninth.

Watching it right now...watching this show has become work...it's just a mission to finish it at this point.

 
This season has been painful at times but they made up for it tonight. Hope they keep it up through the final seven.

Good to have Marshall back. Excuse me while I go pound my wife until she passes out.
