Usually the end of drafting season is a letdown for me after months or prep and analysis. But I feel like my teams this year are across the table pretty excellent, and that has me super pumped for the season. It also helps that I have lots of exposure to Mahomes, Rice, Lamar, and Henry.

This excitement will wane once my best players start to get hurt for the season, as this has happened to me consistently over the last 3 years.

It's Christmas morning and the game is the first present to open. It doesn't get any better than that.
It's christmas if you get to open one present then wait a couple days for the rest. Greed has made opening day game lame imo
It's still the opening of a present and Christmas time. So it might be like opening one present Christmas Eve. It's still great...........even if it could be better. Now the game tomorrow night. That would fit your definition of being more lame than great. I will still watch it but it wasn't needed at all.

4 - I'm glad the season is starting. Looking forward to watching the Commanders on Sunday. I'll tune in at the beginning of tonight's game (and probably be annoyed at how long it takes them to get to kickoff), definitely won't watch the whole thing as I also watch the Nats game or do other things during that time, but will likely pop back in towards the end if it's a close game.

My twin boys have "Back to School" night tonight. They flat out told my wife "NO" to going. So proud of them. We will watch the game together while wife goes to the school event. The first touchdow of the season has already been scored!

Voted 9. Sunday morning is an 11.
Why do schools do this? It was like that for me for years. I mean isn't there someone in the school office that has any sense to realize this is a terrible idea? I had to go once or twice early on but then blew them off as they are so repetitive. Been to one, been to them all....

I don't know, but I've vocalized my annoyance with this in the past and it falls on unsympathetic ears. These aren't conferences - just a bunch of people wandering around the school looking around like they'd rather be anywhere else but there. Kids especially have ZERO interest in going back to their school to see their teachers after school is over. Schedule it on opening night in the NFL and it's just beyond tone deaf.

This is where I stand. Absolute greed has brought us to this. At one time, NFL football on a Thursday meant it was Thanksgiving. Later on in the season, there will be regular season games on Saturdays. SATURDAYS!

Things have gotten watered down. Once upon a time, Monday Night Football was a celebration. The action has been spread around it has become just another day.

This. 10/10 for me, every year.
Even more so now that gambling is actually legal in NC.
California is "kinda" with it? We can do the Sleeper app where you do the "more or less" thing. I have a few $5 player prop parlays in tonight, just to make it a little more interesting.

I share @Hastur 's concerns about the NFL watering down its product. The Thursday night games in particular have a tendency to be really bad.

But we have all season to talk about that. Tonight's game figures to be a banger, and it gets followed up next week with BUF-MIA. Those are damn good games to start things off with.

Each year it's a bit less. Probably about a 5. My NFL excitement is at an all time low
Honestly, if I didn't do fantasy football I would probably not even watch the NFL. My fandom is completely tied to my 1093851571653 teams.

College football, on the other hand, I will always be a diehard.

Why is that?
A variety of reasons. Thursday games is a big one, too much political stuff during broadcasts, too many inconsistent penalties, the game is a tad "softer". I'm all for player safety but I think it's too far with some of the rules changes. I'm not some neanderthal that thinks defenses should be able to just randomly take guys heads off but it's almost impossible to not get a penalty for some of these situations the defense is put in. Too many commercials, needing different services to watch
I'm sure there is more.

College is heading that way for me now with all the NiL and pay for play

I actually quit my last one 2 years ago. Was tired of keeping up with the Thursday games

Don't think I watched one Thursday game last year actually

1. Haven't watched a game in about a decade and mostly forgot the season was starting. My 9yo told me today the Packers play tomorrow, which is how I knew.

I'd be thrilled back when I was playing fantasy football. As it is, I'm not interested at all tonight. Now...Sunday? Yes this Bears fan is super pumped!

It depends on whether Taylor Swift is going to be there
Ms Swift is IN THE HOUSE

I would still watch, and root for the cowboys. But if it wasn’t for fantasy my wife and I (and guests most Sundays) wouldn’t be glued to redzone like we are now. Heck I wouldn’t be paying for redzone

6 - but agree with others about things being a little watered down. I still will only be a 8 Sunday but that’s because there’s only so many times the Falcons can kick me directly in the nuts before I lose all sensation.

Voted 7. I’m excited. Got ten fantasy teams (obviously with relevant players going tonight) and five pick ‘em pools plus this is a great matchup. Only drawback is that it’s still a week night and I’ll have to work during and likely watch it delayed bc single games frankly bore me compared to watching it with ff or the glory that is the Red Zone channel.

Sunday morning will be a ten for me. I like the red zone so much for viewing. Plus I’m usually very low stress with my wife just happy I’m around and we usually make a nice brunch together and she drinks mimosas. I’m sure this is the plan for Sunday. Football Sundays are about as good as it gets in the Woz household.

I don't understand how this is bad. It gives people more opportunity to watch football.

Also, NFL has had regular season Saturday games forever.
