The poll numbers are very telling. I am betting that most of the fantasy football players in this country are like myself and have the time and inclination to be in only one league. What this tells me is how valuable this site is. There are reasons Footballguys is considered one of the top sites for FF and this has got to be one of the main ones. I get to read discussions here between lots of people who are spending tons of hours more time than I can afford dissecting players, looking for steals, busts, etc. I assure you that, at least in my league, this gives me a distinct advantage, and it is probably the main reason that in each of the 4 years I have been around here I have finished either 1st or 2nd in my league.

How can doing more than 1 or 2 leagues be any fun at all? You never know who to pull for or against if you are in a million leagues.

p.s. - The question was rhetoical. I already know I couldn't enjoy doing more than 1 or 2 leagues at a time.
more teams makes it easier.

It gets to the point where it doesn't matter. So you can just watch football and root for your favorite NFL team. And no crying that he threw it to Maclin instead of DJax.

I'm in 9 BTW
 I'm in 10+, so I just root for a few guys that I have in multiple games, and enjoy watching all of the games. After Sunday Night game, then I look at scores. Monday night can be fun with multiple scenarios needed.
 If you're serious about 1 or 2 dynasty leagues, there isn't that much more work to doing 12 aside from drafting and discussing trades. You're already researching the players and watching games preferably with an eye out for unheralded talent. I find multiple leagues beneficial as not only do you no longer "worry" about whether Kolb passes to Maclin on that specific play (for example), but you also don't have to sell the farm to get a player you really like in your league. Across the board, the only players I don't have on a team somewhere that I would like are Ray Rice, Miles Austin, and Peyton Manning (off the top of my head). If I really want to "own" a player, I'm fairly certain I could find him in one of my leagues.

6 Dynasty, 1 redraft. I used to have like 12 and 5.

I would say a serious FF player is in only one league where every owner knows what he is doing. Why even play if you are in a dozen+ random internet leagues with with knows who. Posters on this site bragging about how great a draft they had in their guppie leagues makes me laugh. Guess what - if you play in a guppie league it makes you a guppie too.
I'm only in one league this year. Damn, it's great to know this makes me an expert! :)

:blackdot: I haven't seen anyone I respect bragging about their draft.

I am in 5 leagues....

12 team auction - redraft with guys from the neighborhood - for $20

12 team redraft at work - for $50

10 team redraft with old friends ( been in that one for 12 years) - for $200

Ultimate Survivor challenge

Subscriber challenge.

So technically I have only 3 leagues to do work when the season begins, since there are no trades/WW for the challenges. Aside from watching football, I generally put in about 3-5 hours a week sending trade offers, being on FBG, making WW transactions, and talk smack with leaguemates. Being in 5 leagues allows me to not really worry about what's happening during the games, since if P Manning throws a TD pass, many times....I have him in one league and playing against him in another. I just watch the games and check the scores later.

I enjoy FF and do my share of work, but I don't let it run my life.

I am in one dynasty league. I hated watching football and having every play that was positive for one league end up being bad for another. LOVE having one group of players to root for.

4. 1 keeper 3 redraft.

i used to care about the big $$ team above all others, but once that league fell apart, they're all essentially the same to me. i just root for 'my guys' regardless of whether they're playing against me in another league.

edit to add: 2 of those leagues are with my clients, so those league are more about dealing with them outside of business anyway.

I am in 4 leagues, free online: No Mercy, MFLaddons (1 redraft, 1 auction), Zealots Realm.

I was in 2 money leagues from 1991-2007 and many free online leagues over the years. I have definitly have re-prioritized my life and now play just for fun.

I really do enjoy the year round Zealots league, 53 player roster.

1 WCOFF and 3 just for fun.LOL, Tim, if you spent half the time on FF that you do in the FFA you could run a dozen teams.

4 leagues - 2 redraft, 2 dynasty. Plus various contest leagues, like Anarchy 2, Ultimate Survivor, and the FBG contest.

I'm currently in 4 redraft leagues, 2 IDP Dynasty leagues, 1 IDP redraft league, and various survivor leagues/contest leagues like the FBG Subscriber contest. I may add another couple drafted leagues by the time regular season starts.

One local auction keeper league and one side FFTOC-like contest with the boys to get a weekly fix. Filled in at a second league last year and just couldn't get into it.

Wow, I'm only in one dynasty league (includes IDP) and that takes up enough of my time! I can't comprehend being in 10+ leagues - to me, that would take a lot of the fun out of it. I want to care about that Kolb to Maclin pass, rather than owning half the entire league on various teams. My first fantasy sport is basketball and I have played up to 4 leagues in a season in that, but I even found that a bit much. 2 or 3 leagues is probably ideal, as long as you are playing with people you know who will make it a good experience. Public leagues are the worst.

I'm just curious because I keep reading posts like "I drafted him in every one of my leagues"- I figure the moderators and employees of Footballguys are going to be in a lot of leagues, but that the average schmuck like myself who reads this stuff isn't involved in more than one league. Am I wrong about this? Just being in one 10 team redraft league takes an awful lot of time for anyone who has a regular job- if you're in more than one, how much time do you spend on it a week?

(Not that I mind- I need you guys because you seem to know stuff other people don't and are willing to repeat it here, and I take great benefits from that. I'm just interested to find out.) Please describe, if you would, how many leagues you're in and roughly how many hours a week you spend at fantasy football during the season. TIA.
Well the majority of the work is in the first league anyway. I mean, most of the "work" is in knowing the players, following the games, doing research, etc. Once you've done that for one league, you've done it for all the leagues. That being said, I've never understood how someone can be in 10+ leagues. I really put alot of work into my teams, as far as analyzing talent, analyzing opponents rosters, looking for trades, etc.

I am in 3 dynasty leagues and I think a 4th would sink me.

However, if I was putting big money into it and decided to spend 10k on ten leagues, and hoped I could win back 20-30 k...Well then that might be a different story. But as far as recreationally doing ten leagues? I can't understand it.

Lots of people seem to not understand why someone would be in 10+ leagues. Different strokes for different folks. Some people can't understand why anyone would play fantasy sports at all. I don't understand why people play video games for hours or have to fiddle with their cell phone constantly. I also don't understand why anyone would wear their pants so their butt is hanging out. And I certainly don't understand how anyone could eat beets or drink buttermilk. We all have different likes and dislikes, different agendas, priorities, and different amounts of time on our hands. As someone pointed out earlier, having 'half the entire league' on your teams can make it more enjoyable watching the games as you are not dwelling on just a few players. You just forget about it and watch, and tally up your scores later. It's still a lot of fun building individual teams, and even if you have occasional conflicts it doesn't have anything to do with being able to achieve overall success on all your teams. Plus, you end up with a lot of the same players and sleepers on many teams which can make it more rewarding to be right on someone. Some people have time constraints. I don't. To me it would be boring having just a few teams.

24 Team IDP Dynasty $5.00 (Online)

14 Team IDP Dynasty $50.00 (Online)

12 Team Redraft $25.00 (Online)

12 Team 2 Player Keeper $25.00 (Local)

14 dynasties, and 1 local keeper league. The only tough part I find with so many teams is last minute lineup changes and you're not as sharp on the waiver wire. But it's really not much different than 4 or 5 leagues.
Agree that it's not much different than four or five, except for WWs. You have to do something to organize your league rules to keep them straight, and have to come up with a good way to handle so many waivers.
I'm in 6 dynasty leagues and it helps to keep a "cheatsheet" (word doc) on each one of the leagues. This is a quick reference I use to keep the various scoring/rules straight. It is also a place to track my core roster, capture perceived needs and strategy thoughts. I find this document a helpful time saver, so I don't churn on things I've already analyzed.

I used to be in about 10-12 leagues at a time but about a year ago trimmed it down to only 3. Now that I'm engaged and have my fiance living with me I just don't spend as much time on it and anything more than 3 becomes burdensome. I'm now only doing 1 redraft and 2 dynasty leagues. I may join another dynasty league as my local friends and family group is discussing opening one up on top of our redraft. Still, that would probably be the max. I don't really count the anarchy league because once the draft is over there is no real work or time involved.

I am in 7.

3 redraft -- 3 partial keeper (not full dynasty) -- 1 draft only league.

I find that the research and reading I do does not significantly increase with the number of leagues.

The players are all the same.

Doing waivers and lineups increases the time spent, but only marginally.

However I find that anything above 4 teams results in this conflict: I might have a given player on my roster in one league and that very same guy is on my opponent's roster in another league. So I do not know how to root! That is a bit frustrating but I get over it. Also there are times when I find myself cheering when one of my FF players does well but it is against the Ravens (my home team). That is very difficult for me. I try not to draft Steelers players unless they fall into my lap!

I am sure some of the points have been mentioned earlier in this thread but I do not have time to real all the posts! lol.

edit: oh yeah- I am the commissioner in two of the leagues I play in.
