How much do you pay the babysitter? (1 Viewer)

Wow.  Maybe I am glad that we don't go out and use a babysitter.  $15/hour?  Daycare with all the bells and whistles is $5/hour around these parts.   I guess I am a cheap ### and thought it was more in line with a couple posters above and something like $50 for the night.

3 kids is a lot of responsibility considering its all day. If you guys were going out and she arrived at 7 and put the kids to bed at 10 and you guys arrived at 1 is one thing but she is having to entertain them all day long.  Lunch and dinner?

I'd be in the 75-100 range. Unless they can be plunked down in fron of a TV to watch youtube or play fortnight for 8 hour.

She is helping you more than you are helping her, just add it to the cost of the trip. Or tel the SIL you'll give her a case of beer if she could stay home and not go on the trip.

Are their any animals in the house?

Man a lot of you guys are cheap and creepy. 8 hours and you have no worries about her getting to your house or home and she is family? You should give her 100 and then another 25 to order pizza that can be delivered or something like that or buy stock the fridge or freezer with something good for lunch.

Easily a hundred plus food for 8 hours. Trust is well worth the price. If they actually do anything other than watch TV, give a nice bonus.

We're lucky enough to have a responsible 15yo at home along with a 13yo who can fill in for a bit. I'm still not all that sure we would leave their younger siblings home with them 8 hours.

Settled on $60 as a flat rate, ended up tossing in another $10 when I ended up paying

well worth the money

where do you live?

$12/hour for 2 kids and we always round up to the nearest $5.  Babysitter is 16-17yo.  Nebraska

live in Ohio going rate is $2.50 a kid and a $1 for each kid after that.  never had a babysitter complain that it is not enough money.

While I might be paying a little too much at $15/hr, we use a young teacher at our kid’s elementary school. I’m all for saving money here and there but one area I’m committed to quality over cost is the care of my kids.

the baby or the sitter is sleeping?
#### if I care. As long as they're both alive when we get home.

So full time day care runs you roughly $800/month at that rate? Where is this, because it might be cheaper for us to fly our kid to you each day.

My kids are usually one of two places, running wild with the kids in the culdesac(or our back yard), or stuck on their stupid phones/tablets

They are pretty easy, her main job will be to essentially make sure they don't die......that and make sure they get their mandatory 18 snacks and 5 popcycles

I'm guessing she'll be in the house most of the time watching her shows, or playing on her phone herself
are your kids my kids?  :lmao:

I have a difficult time believing this, but if it is true how do you not feel guilty paying someone 30 dollars to watch your kids? If they live a decent distance away they are spending a third of it on gas.

I look at it this way. If I have the means I'd rather give my niece who by all accounts is a good kid more money and a "random person" a regular rate.

Its a form of "charity" to people you know.

14? Is that considered a millennial? Because they have the worst financial future ahead of them...I'd up the wage a bit.

And maybe just invest it directly into a trust fund for her so she doesn't spend it all on a couple of strawberry-vanilla soy venti lattes and a fancy cell phone case on the way home.
14 is Generation Z, not Millennial. Try to keep up.

FWIW, my 16 year old son is a "manny" to two grade school age kids during the day.  The hours vary, sometimes they need him at 730 am, sometimes he doesn't need to be there that early and he goes to basketball at the high school first at gets there at ten.  He's done at 5 most days, unless they have plans and he's done a little early.  He gets $50 per day.

I think he's getting ripped off, but he didn't want to get a real job, and there is flexibility (mom works from home, and just needs to be able to work) in that he can work it around his high school sporting commitments.

We found a high school girl that regularly keeps our two kids (3 y.o. daughter & 9 y.o. nephew). She has a car, is on the dance squad, has taken CPR class, and knows basic cooking. We worked out an agreement with her that $10/hr is the standard rate for up to 8 hours, and over that it's $20/hr.  If we use her for 4 hours for a Thursday night out then it's $40, but if she's there for a "full day" of 8 hours, I throw her $100 and she's happy with that.

As in, Generation Zombie? Is that because they are all wandering around with a glazed look in their eye while staring at their phones, and answer spoken questions with grunts and groans?
Interestingly enough, one of the things they place a high premium on is authenticity.

I dont get that pricing at all.  I live in a columbus suburb.  We will use one of the "teachers" at the daycare we send the kids to...she charges like $10 an hour for both, which I think is crazy.  We end up paying her ~$15 an hour because she knows them, brings activities, is great, and I 100% trust her.  Totally worth it.

I am guessing he's taking his kids to them and they probably watch a dozen plus kids and don't do transportation.

Lol..what type of person are you getting???
Usually 16-18 year olds who are more than happy.  I would feel really bad for going out on my kids if I had to pay as much as people are saying they're paying.  I would feel horrible spending all that money for a frick in babysitter.  Do they have a PhD that your paying that much?

We are looking again right now, and that is the low end, but most centers in the area are something like $50-55/day, but charge less if they are there 5 days a week, so the going rate is between $200 and $230/week.

You know what's really bad for kids? Having mommy and daddy feel permanently trapped at home while they're sleeping which can lead to resentment, fighting, or just itching for a ####### break.

Getting some one on one time with my wife out of the house even once a month helps keep our relationship strong and makes us better parents. $60 (or whatever) occasionally is a small price to pay for that.
