I was talking to a friend of mine and the topic of how people learn life skills came up. He had a messed up family life and learned a lot about what not to do the hard way. He's 31 now but probably sucked at life (by his own admission) from 18-late 20s.
For him, it was a church group who helped him get his life together.
I lost my dad at a young age. My mom and grandparents taught me most of what I needed to know about life out on my own, and because of living with a single mom, developed a lot of life skills simply because my mom and I made decisions together and I had to help pay the bills, read contracts, do laundry, shop etc.
How did you learn real life skills? Which one of these was the MOST INFLUENTIAL?
Obviously it's a mix of many factors. I think personally, in a perfect world, parents should run away with this, but my gut feeling is that this is not the case.
