If it is as good as it should be, in the $4B range. This is a franchise that reaches across every generation.

Between 5 and 6 the story about how they tracked down Han would be cool. But probably not a film they'd make.
This time line is confusing.

At the end of 5, Lando and Chewy fly off ahead of Leia and Luke to rescue Han.

At the beginning of 6, we see the rescue.

And yet according to the time line, a full year had past between 5 and 6 so I don't know what Lando and Chewy did for a year. Did any of the books talk about this period?

========================

and this is just my opinion but I don't want to see new actors play those roles in that time period.

I have no problem seeing a young Han and young Lando in a back story about Han since we did not see them in that time period in any of the movies, but we are very familiar with all the characters between 5 and 6 and I don't think I would like to see new actors in that time period playing the same characters.

Star Wars movies will be coming out forever with Disney. Spin offs of characters, prequels, Ewoks, etc, etc. Take the Xmen movies combined and multiply it by 9672058. That is how many movies Disney will produce relative to Star Wars. I think it will easily crush any December opening and break $3B if it is good. I can't see a scenario where this doesn't do over $1.5B, even if it's bad. I could see this movie still being in theaters next football season.
Yeah, I'm thinking Marvel Cinematic Universe on steroids.

Also opening on the same day...

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip.

That has to suck pretty hard for them to stick it in opposite Star Wars.

Actually they probably knew it would suck and figured it would be like an advertisement if people saw it was in the theater with that much foot traffic.

Think of all the stupid parents telling their kids that they are going to the movies this weekend, only to arrive and be stunned that Star Wars has been sold out for months.

"Hey kids, how about the new Chipmunks movie??"

there are 3 components to make a movie do great at the box office.

1) Pre release hype

2) Good critical reviews

3) Good word of mouth from fans

we now have the first two components in place. Obviously the hype has been incredible and now that the first 100+ reviews are in, rotten tomatoes is running at an excellent 97%.

If the fans like it as much as the critics, Disney will have a new level of being able to print money on top of what Marvel does for them.

Heading out to see Krampus tonight. The theatre I'm going to has a pretty good IMAX, I'll report back if the Star Wars nerds have already lined up for the first showing tomorrow.
