I rated myself as gifted.

Highest marks in university math and economics.

Member Triple Nine Society.

Started making 7 figs/year in my late 20s.
The fact that I've never heard of "Member Triple Nine Society" would have to knock me down a notch if I wasn't already on the bottom rung. Sounds like something Bill Clinton would belong to.

I can't believe some of these names in the "gifted" and "extremely" above average list. I gotta give it to FC42, he really captured the rampant narcissism that exists in this forum in one simple thread.

My notebook is among the best here, I really have not seen proof of this off-the-charts intellect that apparently resides here. Well above average, there are a ton of folks here in that category. Gifted? Not many that I've noticed. Not 17 and that's considering :shiny: and TU were probably in the "extremely above average" category.

Child, please. I have much higher standards than WC.

Yeah Rhodes Scholar, governor, top 12 president, and world class womanizer is pretty achievable for the average "gifted" FBG.

Chet is unusually froggy today - tipping them heavily in the members-only airport lounge?

Do you have to wear a special jacket to get in there?

Top 12

I'd also debate the womanizer comment.

Where do you rank yourself?

Ranked no lower than 15th on most non-partisan rankings I've ever seen. I'd say 9th or 10th.

I voted Gump. My Dad told me to never tell people how smart I am, but to show them.

I'd easily take the over for you vs Gump. How much choo got?

Btw--I am already 45 minutes late. Still sitting on the runway in Miami.

You're going to South America? Where exactly?
BA tomorrow. Cordoba on Tuesday and Santiago on the following Saturday. Maybe Montevideo somewhere in there.

Any suggestions? My wife was supposed to come with me but she cancelled to stay with our kids.

I wish I could, I've been a lot of places but I've never been to South America. My Dad was in Santiago for a few months in the 90s, but I'm sure the hookers he frequented are all dead now. Sorry.

FBG commune in Arica, Chile is gonna happen someday, right?

I thought I was intelligent until I started watching the Leonard Susskind quantum mechanics lectures on YouTube.

Disaster. After a two hour taxi, the crew timed out and they cancelled the flight. Stuck at Miami airport overnight.

For the most part, I feel that people who are "truly" intelligent don't constantly try to prove it to other people. Your ability to digest information and conversate with others is a dead give away to those that are "truly" intelligent.

Gauging the intelligence of other people is something that I find very interesting. I think you can gauge someone's intelligence based on their social status. Those who can bull#### a larger amount of people and get them to follow them are inherently more intelligent, imo. Those who can't string together a small group of friends are unintelligent, imo. All socializing is... is keeping people entertained and happy. Showing the value that you inherently hold to the group.

But I guess this all depends on how you define "intelligence". If you're basing it on someone's ability to memorize a bunch of definitions, then every autistic kid in America is "intelligent". I think true intelligence is based off critical thinking and the ability to get your desired outcome out of any situation.

If you want "X" to happen, you develop a plan in your head and make "X" happen.

So in your opinion, most con artists are brilliant? Also, I'm not sure you understand what autism is, not every person with autism is like Rainman. From my understanding, one of the key impairments of the disorder is social. Kids/people on the spectrum can have a wide range of intelligence just like anyone else.

Spotting the idiot in the room does not mean there's only one idiot in the room. People tend to forget that corollary.

On a related topic, anyone use Lumosity?

If so, any feedback?
Nobody?I think I'm gonna give it a go soon...
i did for a while, once I maxed out at 99+% i kind of lost motivation to keep it up, I'll still do the word games on occasion.
Did you find it beneficial or more of a time waster?
In the moment, a definite time waster. I suppose there could be ancillary benefits in terms of stimulating the brain, but not enough to keep me doing the daily training.

Some of the games are fun/challenging, but it did not take too long for me to find my cap, and not enough interest/time to put in the work to see marginal gains.

I will still do the word bubble games on occasion (maybe a couple of times a week) to get the brain engaged. but for me, it was more about the challenge of getting high scores, and I lost interest after a few months. It probably does have some benefit, in the way that some exercise is better than none, and if you did a variety of the games, you are utilizing different brain "skills".

Wow. Talk about conceited. krista4 think's she's the son of god.
Well she was with skadden or whatever it's called (I'll be honest, I had zero clue what that was prior and had to google it).
I had a case against them about 10 years ago. They were charging their second year associates at a rate almost as high as my boss--who had 20 years experience and was a former BigLaw guy.

Abe, George, TJ, FDR, Teddy, Ike, Madison

Reagan, Truman, Monroe

JFK, Clinton

yeah, off hand I can see it. Easily the best of the 21st century.

I used it for a while but didn't want to get too smart. so I quit.

and here I thought Krista was just saying she's as intelligent as Jesus. Which is arguable. Jesus was all-knowing but knowledge <> intelligence.

I actually think most people are selling themselves short here. Most people I encounter in real life are idiots. Im definitely the smartest person in my inner circle. Thats the way I answered the question comparing my intellect with the rest of society. Compared to people on these boards Im probably in the above average category. I got a perfect 800 on the math portion of the SATs, went to the top HS in NYC (Stuyvesant), and graduated with a 3.65 overall GPA and 4.00 math GPA. Im also an ASA in the Society of Actuaries. Maybe small potatoes to some on this board but people I know dont even know what an actuary is. One thing I do admit is Im getting dumber as I get older lol. So while my younger self may have been extremely above average Im probably closer to the above average group now. Stupid old age and kid making my brain mush.

Interesting to see how many people equate "knowing things" to "intelligence." They are not the same, though I'm sure there's a correlation.
There's a section, if I'm not mistaken, on most IQ exams that I've taken that specifically deal with generalized liberal arts and sciences knowledge questions. So, I think I get what you're saying, but if we're concerned with measurements, and the measurement that we most frequently use to ascertain intelligence is IQ, then knowledge, or "knowing things," is indeed part of the main intelligence measurement we have. Plus, in order to solve a lot of the problems on the exam, one needs building blocks of mathematical and logical knowledge, or you're going to be sort of doomed to a lower score than you otherwise would.

Or perhaps I'm misunderstanding the point, which is possible.

The question is a bit vague. In a very narrow terms, a lot of people here may be gifted in a particular area. I would consider most people here to be well above average intelligence even though many are shrill jackasses when they disagree on something. Ironically, in some cases the people being the know-it-all jackasses are the clueless ones.

that might be the key. I'm surrounded by smart people every day in a relatively small office in a huge law firm (sort of). The people I work with every day are among the best at what we do.
