How to Utilize ADP in a Keeper League Draft? (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
Anybody have any solutions or reccomendations on how to utilize ADP in a draft that includes keeper players?

I love the idea of comparing my VBD rankings to ADP to determine what players are going way too early based on my VBD and what players I can wait on a little bit based on my VBD....but how do i adjust this for keeper players? Most of the ADP is for pure redrafts, but in my league roughly the top 20 - 30 players are already off the board. So when ADP says David Wilson is going late 3rd, how to I convert that to my league where he is likely going to go late second, early third since the likes of McCoy, Rice, Peterson, etc will all be kept players.

Thanks Sharks!

Let's say RB3 and RB5 are kept and no one else. And ADP is something like this (made up values):

1.01 RB1

1.02 RB2

1.03 RB3

1.04 RB4

1.05 WR1

1.06 RB5

1.07 RB6

1.08 RB7

1.09 QB1

1.10 WR2

1.11 RB8

1.12 RB9

If your league doesn't require anything spent on keepers, that is everyone keeps 2 players and essentially the draft starts in the equivalent of round 3... then all you would have to do is remove the kept players from ADP and bump everyone else up.

1.01 RB1

1.02 RB2

1.03 RB3 RB4

1.04 WR1

1.05 RB5 RB6

1.06 RB7

1.07 QB1

1.08 WR2

1.09 RB8

1.10 RB9

Let's say instead that you have to spend a pick on a keeper. Doesn't matter whether you're spending where he previously went in draft plus a round, or whether you lost your first round pick for your first keeper and second round pick for your second keeper. Either way, just go take the player in question and move him to the pick used to keep him. Slide everyone else up or down towards where the keeper's spot in the ADP list was. So if RB3 is being kept with pick 1.08 I do this, moving RB3 up to pick 1.08 and moving everyone above him up a slot.

1.01 RB1

1.02 RB2

1.03 RB3 RB4

1.04 RB4 WR1

1.05 WR1 RB5

1.06 RB5 RB6

1.07 RB6 RB7

1.08 RB7 RB3

1.09 QB1

1.10 WR2

1.11 RB8

1.12 RB9

Then repeat for RB5 and wherever he is going. In the end you have a complete list of ADP for your league.

Note if you just want a list of available players in ADP when you're done, you could just take the ADP list and remove the keepers, and take the list of draft picks and remove the picks spent on keepers. And then line them up. That would probably be the more useful thing to me actually... having the keepers listed would just clutter it up for most uses I would put it to. Plus a lot quicker to create.

That is good stuff Greg!! Your first example is the equivalent of my league...each team gets to keep 3 players without any draft pick penalty....so essentially round 1 is like round 4. Once the keepers are announced I can print out ADP the week before my draft and simply cross off the players kept one at a time and bump everyone up one draft slot each time!!

Thanks so much man! Keeper leagues are fun but sometimes make using some of our tools like VBD and ADP a little more challenging!

I just input the keepers into the DD as if they were the first 3 rounds and then roll from there =) Tells me the VBD of who's left on the board and it has my keepers in the system so it can give me positional value! It's basically just pretending the keepers are how the first 3 rounds of the draft went!

One thing that you can do in the DD is use the Keeper List option. Just make sure that when you assign a player as a keeper that you assign him to the correct team and then also change the Round to 0 and the Pick to 0. That way, the keepers are added to the teams' rosters (pre-draft) and you can start your draft with pick 1.1

This is especially helpful when mock drafting because when you reach the end of your mock, you can hit "Clear Teams" in the File menu and it will take you back to the 1.1 pick and will also keep your keeper players on the correct rosters.
