How will the NYJ O look in the second half? (1 Viewer)

I am curious to hear if any Jets fans have news from the Bye week. I assume Clemens is the full time starter for the rest of the season. Does his big arm change the offensive philosophy?

How is Coles feeling? More importantly, who will be the big time WR down the stretch, Cotchery or Coles? Also does McCareins become a fantasy option?

Will Thomas Jones / Leon Washington carries split remain the same?

I have also heard that Clemens does like to throw to the TE. Any chance Baker becomes playable?

Sorry about asking all these questions, but I think this is a unit that has potential to put up solid fantasy points and this would probably be the best time to buy low.

I'm interested too now that I'm forced to start TJones with the Peterson injury and I haven't really been following the Jets this year.

The Jets big problem has been that their O-line is in shambles right? And I know their upcoming schedule is brutal with Pittsburgh and Dallas the next two weeks.

seemed to be the biggest problem was Pennington's arm strenght. Teams could stack 8 in the box and stop both the run & pass at the same time. Jets fans hope that Clemens backs the safties up and more running room is created for Jones.

Agreed on Pennington's weak arm, but I'm not sure Clemens garners the respect from D's to move the safeties back, especially with Coles out. Speaking of which, is Coles due back this week. Pittsburgh can be thrown on, so it's not a horrible passing matchup.

JEt homer here -

KC opens up the JEt offense big time - you already saw it against a decent Wash team. I think you bump up TJ, and Cotchery big time. Coles probably stays the same since PEnny looked to him all the time especially in the red zone. Baker could even be a decent fill in.

BUT....do not go to heavy on the Jets yet - the real dirty secret of the Jets this year is not Pennyboy's noodle arm but rather Mongenius turning into a Mangina. Awful nonaggressive coaching this year - plays that resemble sandlot dink and dunk are the work of the coaching staff - Chad uncorcked a 50 yd TD pass to Coles a few weeks back and he never threw over 10 yds the rest of the game. Awful playcalling in the red zone. Punting on 4th and 1 on the opponents 35 yd line. Trick plays on 3rd and 1 inside the 10 - coaching has been terrible and until Mangini gets his mojo back I would use the JEt players for depth and spot starts only.

The offensive coordinator didn't seem to change up the offense much despite KC's better arm. That could be as a result of missing Coles and trying to keep it simple for Clemens. Lots of underneath stuff. We'll see. The biggest difference is that KC can get the ball to the receivers quicker and in position for the receivers to get yardage. Chad always lobbed his passes and the receivers would get killed by the time it got to them.

I think that Thomas Jones has looked good. The problem is that the defense is bad, thus the Jets are always coming from behind. There really isn't that much of a split of carries. With the Jets trailing, you put out Washington to catch those short passes because he is better in the open field.

The other main problem is the o-line. It's not in shambles, it's just not very good. Mangold is really good at center. Ferguson is a pretty good pass-blocker, but doesn't get a lot of push in the running game. Anthony Clement at RT is terrible although a much better run-blocker, than pass blocker.

The guards aren't very good either. Moore is average at best. Clarke is not very good.

biggest problem is the o-line. From what I've seen, the pass blocking has been ok, but we just get no push. You can't run the football if you get no push. The jets have two very bad guards and a below average RT. Add in the fact that Ferguson is pretty weak at the point of attack and you have a recipe for disaster. Why this team didn't throw some cap space at Eric Steinbach I'll never know.

That all being said, KC opens up the passing game (i would hope)

Clemens had a very good game vs. Washington. His stats were not helped as the always sure-handed Cotchery dropped two passes, Leon Washington dropped a 35 yarder placed perfectly over his shoulder with no defender 10 yards away from him, and Brad Smith (who I hate as our #3 WR) dropped two wide open passes which should have totaled about 35 yards.

He was robbed of 80 yards in drops alone.

Anyway, the biggest thing Clemens will do is help the run after catch yards of the Jets WRs. Coles and Cotch are both crisp route runners and both very good with the ball in their hands. However, if the ran a crisp curl route, or a comeback route, etc. By the time Pennington's ball got to them the defender had time to close the seperation and hit the WR as soon as he caught it eliminating all potential for YAC ability from Cotch and Coles. With Clemens, the ball gets there much faster and there is still some seperation between the WR and the defender. This will actually allow Coles and Cotch to make plays with the ball in their hands.

I see Jerricho being helped all around (catches, TDs, and yards). Coles I see more improving yards only as he and Chad had great chemistry on the goaline fade route where Coles has seen at least 3 of his 6 TDs come from.

Don't forget though, the weather and wind becomes brutal at the Meadowlands around this time of year and we still have games remaining vs. Pitt and New England. Unless you're buying real low .... I don't think any spike that either player will get makes it worth giving up something you value for one of them. But with that being said, do expect some increase.

Hope that helps.
