***Howard Stern*** (1 Viewer)

Between Howard ' s insistence on talking about sex, Madonna ' s stuffiness, and constant Robin interjection, I thought it was very uncomfortable.

She was more over-the-top annoying than she usually is. It was painful! It's almost like she was trying to correct/one-up Howard. She's awful.

I listened for about 4 seconds and turned it off. Every time I've switched over for the last two days, it's been on, are they just running the interview in a continuous loop or have I just been unlucky? Zero interest in listening to it.

We'll always have Ham Hands Bill.
About a month ago, I stumbled across a VHS tape that was unlabeled when i was cleaning out my closet. I actually still have a VCR/DVD combo connected to a tube TV in one of my guest rooms, so I popped it in. It was my idiot friends and I in our summer beach house rental from somewhere in the early-mid 90s. I'd say a good 40% of the tape, you could hear someone or other, on or off camera, saying either " 'Ere, we all find out why I have.... 'am 'ands..." or "When we was in the shower, you buttcheeks was warm...." or "My Robiiiiiin, so sweet and cuuuuute.... three input baaaaabe ! EEnanout.... Unconsciouslyyyyyyyy....re-enacts my abuuuse....by loving high colonics and annal sex.... bent over the seeenk.... Daddy loves you."

I mean, it was f'n almost non-stop.

Honestly, if there's a reason I stop listening, it will be because of her.

And before the interview she was telling Howard to let Madonna speak.

Anyway the Madonna interview was pretty awful. She hasn't been interesting for 20 years and she was too guarded. The fact it was hyped up with a special air time made it worse.

I didn't listen to all of it. Did Howard ask about Lady Gaga? That's one thing I'd like to hear.

Lady Gaga is the perfect example of someone I had thought would be way too weird for me to find interesting, but she changed my mind with her interview on Stern. Other interviews have had similar effects - basically making the guests seem much more like real people that you could relate to on some level at least. Not this one, though.

Lady Gaga was 1000x more interesting than Madonna.

I didn't hear anything about Lady Gaga in this interview. I did zone out a couple of times while listening, though.

That Madonna interview was pretty boring. Not nearly as good as the other big name interviews they've had lately.
I've always disliked her and almost all of her music. Now after that interview... I like her less, and her new "music" is worse than the old stuff.

BTW... you're 57. I'm calling that "way too old" to be wearing a grill that makes you talk like you have marbles in your mouth.

ETA: the fact that she took a big #### on the State of Michigan pisses me off even more...
Not a fan of the auto tune crap that Howard was lapping up, huh?

I forget - what did she say bad about Michigan again? I think my in-laws in Michigan have always seemed to love her because of her roots there.

The bigfoot interview was awesome. I hate benji but the benji/elisa stuff has been good this past week.

The Madonna interview was a snooze.

I wonder if he is beating himself up since no one liked it. And the email they get will be honest. It drives him nuts to know something wasnt good. That part is not shtick

And Robin was painful in this interview. And Madonna kind of challenged her on a few of her pop in comments.

DId Howard really call podcasts dumb and the listeners losers?

If so then the dude is completely and utterly out of touch. He has become what he used to mock. All good things come to an end I guess.

Even if only 2 people write in and say they like it that's what they will read.

I believe he was more mocking podcasters who think that they are broadcasting and making themselves into broadcasters by doing a podcast. He actually said that he enjoys certain targeted podcasts that are geared towards his specialized interests and that all 8 people who listen to those are learning something.

that really doesnt make much sense but whatever

Still shows the game has passed him by

I've never been a Robin hater but she's really starting to get on my nerves now. The interruptions are ridiculous.

It has been addressed multiple times. He thinks that if you want to be a broadcaster, then go become one. Get a job doing it and learn your trade in reality. Compared it to a comedian needing to work on an act in clubs as opposed to just practicing in front of a mirror. I assume that there are more than a few podcasters who have an over inflated sense of accomplishment on their task.

Perhaps but I wouldn't be surprised if he makes more then all podcasters combined.

If someone made millions being a just a podcaster, Howard will still say that.

His struggle coming up in broadcasting is so deeply ingrained in him that he'll never let it go even if the need for that type of journey becomes obsolete.

Maybe he talked about it a few times because this isn't what I heard at all. He shat all over podcasting...seemed really out of touch to the point that Gary and Robin even asked if this was just something new that he didn't really know about.

He definitely changed his stance on podcasts. He always hated them but now he claims that all along his stance has been that the average podcaster is trying to become a radio superstar. The guy he was making fun of this week was dead on. People just like doing podcasts, they aren't interested in doing drive time terrestrial radio. Howard is out of touch here. He's battling something no one is saying.

a young Stern today would have been doing a podcast just starting out

Not always a big fan of Ronnie, but today's Movie Game Show with Ronnie and St Patrick's Day Sex Tips had me rolling...

So, I would probably agree that Beat should take the title. However, I have to be honest. I feel really bad for the guy

I never felt bad when Howard was interviewing him or all the stunts they had him do. He made a lot of good money off that

But they played an old clip of Beat and Hank in the studio at the same time on 101 the other day, and Hank was ripping Beat for being stupid. It felt uncomfortable for me at that point because clearly Beat isnt all there. You can see how Howard and crew deal with it in a respectful manner while Hank just killed him, making it fairly obvious that Beat wasnt in on the "joke"

Exactly. He had Al Michaels on last year and he went to broadcasting school in Arizona. Said that the kids that could not get on the college station, and still wanted to get into broadcasting, would just tape themselves calling a game into a tape recorder and send them out. I think Howard's point might be that podcasts are sometimes heavily edited and that he is the man for doing "live radio". It's a stupid stance. Podcasts are the future of radio. You have some of the biggest names in radio who do their shows from home studios.

What Howard said was that if you want to do podcasts for fun, that was cool, but that monetizing it is nearly impossible unless you're already a name from another medium and bring an audience with you. He also said that people saying that it's "practice" for doing over-the-air radio are incorrect because a) they're working with a net in that it can be edited after recording and b) they have no pressure to generate ratings or lose their job. He's absolutely correct about all of that. His comparison to stand-up comedy is pretty accurate as well. Live radio is doing stand up on a stage in a club. Doing a podcast is doing stand-up in your basement for friends and family.

I've done both and he's right, it's two VERY different animals. I have nothing against podcasting and agree that it (as all on-demand programming no matter what the medium) is the future of "broadcasting" but in the context in which he was making the argument from what I heard, he's 100% correct.

Is the Chet Haze stuff recent? been seeing some reddit chatter about a chet haze rant and threat but haven't been listening to the show so no idea if it's new
