He really seems to be mailing it in lately. I guess a $500M contract will do that to people. He used to have broads in the studio getting naked all the time. That is happening far less frequently now. Either Beth O neutered him, or he's mellowing in his old age.Just switched over to XM.Lol. Raider Nation put it perfectly. He's just really mailed it in.The whole appeal of going to satellite was not having the commercial restrictions (and unedited obviously). He is always rushing to get through segments. It seems he rushes through the most hilarious segments at that just so he can get the #### out of there and go home.So Howard has been that bad lately?Just switched over to XM.Lol. He doesn't work Fridays. Vacation is worst than ever.
He had promised all this big stuff. I mean whatever happened to the "Bitter Half" which was supposed to be a weekly radio sitcom. One episode and done. Friday show, done. Now they just throw on a random show with non-topical issues from 20 years ago. MTT is UNLISTENABLE to me. The Friday show, which took some effort, went back and picked the best bits and clips.
It's just so bland now and he puts little effort into it and you can REALLY tell.
Sucks. Even Artie sort of sucks lately and he is the best.
I have HowardTV and I watch everything. As far as the chicks are concerned I usually just turn in to see the chick get naked for a second then turn it off. Todays MTT had an extended interview with Whoopi Goldberg, who was a very good open guest, it was one of the first Jessica Hahn shows--right after the Playboy shoot and the PTL thing exploded. There was also a dissection of his appearance on the Arsenio Hall show and what a train wreck that was, with them trashing Arsenio and his "style" of interviewing/talking over people (yeah, pot meet kettle)

The thing which bothers me the most, if I had to narrow it down to one thing (and we've been through this ad nauseam), is the fact that it always seems like Howard has a ####### bus to catch. WHERE'S THE FIRE???? Between rushing Robin through the news (Anything else, Robin?... Anything else, Robin?... Anything else, Robin?... Anything else, Robin?) and his incessant interruptions -- i.e., not letting Artie speak when he's trying to convey a story, etc., it is clear he has better things to do. He's obviously self-important, but if you are going to have others on the staff, stop cutting them off when they start talking!
If he doesn't want to be there, just walk away.

Some of the funniest #### happens during the news, when Howard actually lets someone else speak.
A couple of weeks back, I never laughed so hard in my life during the news. I was driving and I *literally* almost crashed my car. You obviously missed it. Fred was playing sound effects of an old-lady porn star getting boned. Artie thought it was the most hilarious thing ever, so they got him the video clip of it. As it's playing, you hear Fla Fla Flo Fly on his intercom saying "Howard... Howard" ... totally stepping all over the clip, and Howard was all pissed off that Gary kept interrupting.
Then Howard grabs the megaphone and starts imitating Gary, screaming "Howard... Howard... Howard... Howard" as Fred plays a barking dog soundbite in unison with Howard saying "Howard." It's very difficult to explain if you didn't hear it, but OMG was it funny.

I do miss the old days on K-rock, when he would stay on the air forever, well past his off time. Now, 10 sharp it gets turned over to Robin and then out the door for the wrapup show ontime or early every day. So he sure does seem to have lost that hunger and I really think it is twofold--Beth and therapy.
He seems in a hurry to get home to her and the damn therapy has really screwed up his wacky mojo, now he always seems to look at everything from a pysch angle--so annoying.

They BS alot before the news starts, so I don't think it's any rush to get out of there or he would just start the news earlier. Like the other day, they were done the show and getting ready to start the news, but just chatted about "GNO" for awhile. And they do comment on new's stories all during the show. To me, going till 10:30-11:00 is fair enough. An oldman like Howard getting up to start the show at 6 and do a show for 4-5 hours, I would say the effor is still there. I would bet thats very exausting for him(not to mention artie). When that caller asked him about quitting the news early, it was hard to argue with his joke of "Should I just stay here all day, we'll never leave". It seems more of an issue of how much a role he thinks the news segment should take on the show. I usually trust his judgment in these area's, he goes with his gut, but of course he can never satisfy 100 percent of his audience.

Sirius in my car has gone from perfect reception to spotty reception (works 80% of time). Combine that with the fact that my commute is going to go from 75 min each way to 30 min starting next week and I think I'm about to get off the satellite wagon. I'm going to see what it's like without it for a few months and then decide whether to renew and fix my radio probs. I suspect that one day of terrestrial radio will have me back on the phone to Sirius, but we'll see.

trust me - even without Howie, Sirius is worth it. Tried to listen to some regular radio tunes and I swear to God all 5 programed channels I had were on commercial break. Until they make a better MP3 system in cars Sirius is the way to go - plus the NFL channel is awesome!As for Howard - the show goes in cycles - when Howard is happy it tends to be mellow. Usually during a boring period something crazy happens to wake it up: Sal apology issue, Artie MIA, Artie Heroin, Sal/Richard vs Artie, High Pitch Mike vs Artie, etc.I do agree on 2 things though - 1. The guests are awful - its time to just stop the guests until you actually land someone good, I listen on my mp3 and 99% of the time when there is a guest I just fwd through. 2. He does seem to be rushing lately - the funny part of old Stern is he would mercilessly beat something to death that annoyed him. Remember the Philly Zookeeper? He would pummel him hours at a time for months - run song contests, go after his wife - awesome. Now it seems something gets good and he hurries it along. I doubt he is going to leave Sirius after this contract - I predict he will extend for another 3 years for a ton of money - but he starts the show later and replays it in the am. He also will finally develop his channels which has been a complete waste so far.

Moments like that, and many of the moments I hear on MTT (especially when Jackie gets on a roll) remind me of why the news was always the part of the show I could count on for some good laughs, even if the rest of the show wasn't that great. But I agree, he really sounds like he has no interest in it most days and does try to rush Robin and steps all over Artie when he actually tries to talk or make a comment and isn't sleeping. And I could be wrong, but does Benjy feed Howard lines like Jackie used to? Sometimes I think I can tell when he does, and they always seem to fall flat. Nothing would crack me up more than when Jackie would feed Howard a line and all you would hear was Jackie laughing hysterically in the background, no matter how good or bad the joke was.

So Howard starts to comment, and you figure he's going to comment on Mel's situation, but instead he says "well with ME, I eat blah blah blah...." I know I've only been listening since the Sirius days, but I'd be fine if Howard only interviewed people, and let Artie, Sal, Richard, and even Bababooie riff the rest of the time. Oh, and maybe Robin could die a slow painful death. That'd be nice. I like the wrap show as much as the regular show for the interplay and BS between the crew.
