Even being generous and saying that is what they actually mean, it is still a really stupid thing to say. Calling someone a bigot for that??? It's not like they refuse to talk to them or harass them...................we are talking about getting ####### naked in front of some stranger that has different sex organs than you.

Calling someone a bigot for that ####### idiotic.

Or if they really meant to just say that some people are bigots, and those people don't want to get naked in front of strangers of the opposite sex. Still stupid. Real stupid.

Seems like they got very close to a good solution - a curtained privacy area anyone can use to have privacy while changing or showering.

And then tried to slip in language in the agreement that the transgender kid MUST use the privacy area to change. Stupid.

Hypothetically, you have a female population in the school of 200 girls and 188 of them voted for this, would that change your opinion?

Assuming that you're asking how I feel about high school girls voting on whether a transgender teen gets to have her rights at the school... No. Why would I care if high school girls voted to take away someone's rights?

The transgender student using the privacy area only.

See above. You don't get to vote on someone else's rights. Sorry, kids.

This comes back to the premise of this one student having more rights than the extremely overwhelming majority.

It isn't asking for special treatment to be allowed to do the same thing other people do. It wasn't when gay marriage came up as a topic, and it isn't now.

What rights are being taken away from the overwhelming majority?

Who cares what the majority wants, its not relevant.

The right to tell her she isn't really a girl and make her hide in a corner due to popular vote.

If you think she is allowed to use the locker room, that's it. She is allowed to use the locker room. If you don't, that's another discussion - one the DoJ and the DoE disagree with you on, and you'll lose that discussion over time just like the gay marriage argument was lost over time. But if you think she's allowed to use the locker room, "but only if she can be treated completely differently and agrees to live in shame, in writing" isn't a reasonable addendum.

They can use those curtains. All fixed, right?

This conversation and the gay marriage conversation are apples and oranges IMO (FTR I fully support gay rights and the right to be married to someone of the same sex).

This is a debate about subjecting a group of young girls to seeing a penis or changing in privacy to avoid doing so.

Privacy from what? They already had a locker room with other people, right? They didn't each have their own locker room to use without anyone else.

I hope they wait in long lines to do so, long enough lines that it disrupts the entire class and the following class when changing back - At least everyone, but the one individual will be accommodated.

Why not just unisex locker rooms?

Privacy from the opposite gender. Oh right but at least they got a curtain...hopefully 99.99999% can fit back behind it at the same time.

But there isn't anyone the opposite gender involved.

Why not just unisex locker rooms?
Why not locker rooms based on which gender you're attracted to, so they don't have to worry about lesbians looking at them?

Are you sure? Did you chromosome test this person? Hormone level testing? Physically check to make sure there wasn't an intersex birth? How do you know what this person's birth sex actually was?

For the HS student reference, I think the penis is the giveaway.

No, I guess it's just better to take their word for it over everything obvious.

So you think we should inspect the kids' genitals at the beginning of the year, or every time they want to use the restroom?

You are aware you're in the extreme minority on this one, correct?

Doesn't make your point of view / opinion any less valid - just that the masses disagree here.

The right to tell her she isn't really a girl and make her hide in a corner due to popular vote.
The constitutionally protected right to privacy applies to much less invasive situations than a changing area for children. Yet somehow you want to claim there is absolutely no need to balance competing rights in this context.

Please explain the privacy right that's being violated here. In detail. Try to fully encompass what privacy has been taken from these kids. Then show me an example of how we or they have a "right" to that type of privacy.

Asking down?
Or a birth certificate would perhaps.
Neither of those are a scientific determination of actual sex. And statistically, every school is going to have kids where the birth certificate is just flat out wrong given what we now know about birth sex. Also, yes, great idea. First day of school, we should go ask all the kids if they have a penis or not. What age do you want to start?

You realize this is an entirely semantic argument, right? Genitalia is sufficient in basically every case of public accommodation.

Yes, I agree. An extreme minority of people understand the law on this.
You're also aware an extreme minority of people agree with your opinion as well, right?
Which one?
The one where you think a transgender teenager who still has a penis should be able to use a female locker room.

No, what you think someone's genitalia probably is based on the way that person portrays him/herself to the world is sufficient. Because how that person lives and portrays him/herself to the world is actually what we are basing all this on.

What would be more scientific? Asking them if they prefer to wear dresses? What percentage of birth certificates in the US are flat out wrong?

Oh, I thought you meant gay marriage, miscegenation, physician-assisted suicide, DNRs, marijuana, pornography, or something like that. I guess public opinion has turned around on all those, though, while I was just here being in the extreme minority.

Sounds like it's time to set up some webcams in these lockerrooms now. No right to privacy in there whatsoever.
