I visited Pepperdine my senior year of high school but saw the cars in the parking lot. I didn't grow up wanting, but I knew there would be a whole different scene on the cliffs of Malibu. Holy crikey. That place was beautiful. So, incidentally, was Occidental's campus.

I have a buddy who went to Pepperdine Law too. He did not have any luck getting into any big firms and finally ended up with his fathers firm. Doing well and all but he told me that being in the top 10% of Pepperdine meant nothing. To have a shot he really needed to have been top 1 or 2%.

There's little to zero way I'd ever be able to teach at the actual law school (unless I become like the next Shapiro or something) giving my average grades at Hamline. I really wouldn't want to either. I'm talking about just teaching the undergrad courses.

BTW, most of us went to law school with the plan of doing some exotic/different. I went in with the plan to transfer to Marquette after my first year and become a sports agent. Of course, that plan went out the window when I realized that 1) becoming a successful sports agent when you aren't Jay-Z is really ####### hard; and 2) contract law is boring. I also had zero interest in moving six hours away because I was in love.

I respect the institution. Besides, I grew up a big blue fan, but have since claimed Kansas (and wouldn't choose the school right now for football. Basketball - yes)

I would pass on places like Miami and LA, just because there are MUCH MUCH bigger fish in those ponds. I would stay maybe somewhere temperate, 2-a-days in the horrible conditions in the South would be ####ty, but I guess it's hot everywhere in the Summer. I have to think somewhere like Norman or Lincoln would be good. I just hate the South despite having lived here most of my adult life.

When I was in HS in the early 80's, Bobby Ross was still in his ascendancy with the program at Maryland (and FWIW, both of his kids are around my age AND went to my HS when I was there), so I would have been very happy to stay local and play football at College Park.

If I knew then what I know now of the football landscape at that time, I still would have chosen Maryland, simply because it was high-profile enough to be in the hunt with the big dogs, and at the time I would have been willing to kill or die if it meant beating Penn State.

For myself, it is easy. Notre Dame.

It is easy because it has everything plus I am a big fan. It is a big time school and program with a long rich history. You have a national stage and can make your name for yourself for the NFL draft. You also earn a degree that carries weight in the real world as well. Big and committed alumni for networking and opportunities after football.

The only negatives that I can think of other locations that would be more appealing as a college student (UCLA/USC, Miami, Florida, etc) and ND does not exactly rank on top in terms of numbers of hot girls.

IF I had been some hot-shot, blue chipper back in HS and I had my pick of schools, I probably would have gone with UCLA. Both the campus and the Rose Bowl are 2 hours from where I grew up and Westwood is pretty sweet.

A cousin of mine was lightly recruited by BC, Cuse, UVa and Vandy to name a few. Blew out his knee playing hoops Jr year and missed entire Sr season and everyone backed off. Went to Harvard, 2yr starter and captain. Runs his own hedge fund and I put the over/under on his net worth at 9 figures. Don't underestimate the powerful alumni network either.

Top 10 academic school all day long is the answer - if you are good enough to play on Sundays they will find you.
