Hurricane Irma Roll Call (1 Viewer)

Ooof...the roads won't be any better tomorrow, IMO...be safe and good luck!
Thanks man. I'm really not looking forward to this. Don't even know what the best place to get real time traffic info is, Waze?

You guys want to meet at the Hooters up there in a bit?
I don't have any free time today...but Brew Hub has 32oz growler fills for $5 til close (as well as 20 craft taps and a cooler full of package beer) if anyone near the N Side is looking to stock up on good beer.

Also BeerRev on S Florida Ave next to Jets pizza is the best beer store in the county. Around 20 taps, growler fills and a huge craft beer selection.

From my understanding, Waze and Google maps are basically the same when it comes to real time traffic, just use whichever you like best.
I'm hoping either is accurate.  They're both telling me to take I-75 and it will take 7 hours to Atlanta (8 hours if I take I-95 north and cut over) but I'm reading/hearing from people that 75 is a parking lot and people are saying in the other thread that they're reading about 52 hour travel times up I-95.  I don't know what to believe.

Sticking with the family. Wife was initially less than pleased we weren't hightailing it all the way to Indy, but I convinced her. She isn't a fan of Hooters, though.
"I just saved your life, lady.  Pretty sure I'm entitled to some crappy wings and titt|es."

I think the 52 hour thing is bull####. But 7 hours sounds optimistic when you look at the orange and red on the map. I am using google maps too and getting the same result.

I was thinking the exact same thing.  I may just leave at like 4 AM hoping I can beat people to the punch.

You are going the wrong way.  I think the entire upstate is going to get popped pretty significantly  if the track holds.
Yeah, I'll rethink that in the next couple of days when the track forecast is more clearly defined.  Nasty storm, this one.

Neat thread, great idea.

I live in Lake Worth (Boynton Beach) though
I think I said you lived in Miami Beach. I may have gotten you confused with someone else.  Stay safe The Ref.

I have family all over Florida.  It takes me an hour to call around to everyone for a 5 min call to see what they are doing.  Most are riding it out (some are essential personnel), which I hate but there really isn't anything I can do about it.  Hoping for the best for all.

Can't believe all these guys turned down a cornhole at the North Lakeland Hooters.
I may be game tomorrow...I had to finish running around today and I'm working a route tonight from Wildwood to Deltona.

No worries!

I know a guy in the FEMA reserves that just got called to Florida.

Not normally a big deal, but, we live in the Pacific Northwest. :(   Hang on tight, it's going to be a rough one.

Do sandbags really help? I just packed 10 sandbags of free leftover sand from a South beach condo for my exes house in North bay village which is a 3 island city in the middle of biscayne bay. It's supposed to stop water from entering the front, back and side exterior doors.

I am near Cav in a Raleigh suburb.  I can't drive to Italy, so I am staying put with my rental generator on hold for Monday.  I have gas, wine and an inflated sense of self worth in abundance, so I should be good to go.

A number of people have said they're staying in the path of this thing.  Thought I'd put up a thread where you folks can check in and let us all know how it's going easily, since we have several days of this coming up and we will want to know that you're alive and well.  I'll update as it goes if people will say who they are.  So far I know for sure the following are staying:

Just check in here and I'll add names and check in times.  Feel free to pm me instead if you'd rather and I'll add check in times.  This storm is going to be nuts.

I will gladly feel silly if this thread is unnecessary.
If I have missed anyone, please let me know.  I think this is everyone who's checked in here.  Beginning sometime Saturday I'll update as often as possible who has checked in and when - on an 8 or 12 hour basis if not more often.

Anyone who's still in as staying, I'm going to assume is hunkered down and set.  Tomorrow is probably too late to leave for those who are super far south.  Good luck to everyone, especially with the recent westward turn of the models.

I should also have some occasional updates from Miami, where a friend of mine is an ER surgeon and is staying to treat the injured.

About 27 miles.
Oooof. Trying to figure out how that would play out.

Me: Hey honey, I know you're stressed out with the storm of the century and having to evacuate 200 miles from home and all, but would you mind hanging with our kids, dog and my mom in the hotel room while I go cornhole with Grahamburn and Kal El at Hooters in Lakeland?

My wife would turn me into a human wind sock if I tried to pull that off.

Panels up in all the windows.  Grill and table to come into the house tomorrow.  Think I'm prepared as I can be at this point.  Hoping the best for all my fellow FL fbgs from just southeast of Tampa (Riverview).  I'll be working tomorrow unlike most people in this county.

Stay safe guys.

Hopefully this turns out like a noreaster 43' snow prediction we get in the northeast only to be left with 2" after all the hoopla

A friend of mine made it from Hollywood to the Brandon ( just east of Tampa) area in less than 5 hours, 5pm to 10pm, taking US 27 which cuts across the state just south of Lake Okeechobee. No traffic.

I look at that list of posters from FL and think "hmm, makes sense."

Srsly though stay safe gents.

Charlotte area.  I suspect we'll get less rain and damage than the storms last week.

I sand bagged my doors during Sandy. There were about 2 feet of water outside and we had about two inches in our apartment. We were the only building that didn't have the doors give way due to the weight of the water. We only lost an ironing board. Anecdotal, but for me they worked wonders.

I drove through the heart of South Beach around 6pm and it was dead. Restaurants and retail stores boarded up. This is the slow season, but Irma will take a big bite out of the big tourism industry in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando and elsewhere. In Miami Beach, hotel, retail and restaurant workers will be out of work Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday night for sure and maybe beyond. Cruises have been shortened, rerouted or canceled. Amazingly, there are no plans to shut down at Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando as Irma nears.

Down here in Parkland FL (Western Broward County Suburb).

Praying this ##### veers more off the coast and wobbles off shore and we at least get the clean side worst case....eye wall stays off  shore is really the only thing we can hope for to ride this out.

Dear lord....please do not come up the middle....stay east in the Atlantic......we will take that. We can weather that. But a direct hit.....my god. Please no.
