I can't shake the feeling that Best blows up this week (1 Viewer)

I am thinking that Detroit blows out KC and ends up controling the clock late. This combined with Best's explosive potential in the pass game has me thinking in a PPR he ends up with something like 25 carries 150yds, 7 for 80 rec with 2 total TDs.

It might be a little high to expect 25 carries for 150 yards from Best. Last game was his career high in carries at 21. But the moral of the thread is get this guy in your lineup.

Jerome Harrison played the kill the clock role for Detroit last week, so if the Lions go up big I expect it be Harrison not Best that would run out the clock. Best is a player coming off a pre season conky, and has a history of concussion problems why would the team risk him taking a big hit when the game is in the bag? Any time the game is in hand you will be seeing Harrison and Morris not Best.

With a guy like Best he is like Reggie Bush he is actually more valuable in PPR when his team is losing or playing from behind where he racks up check down passes in hurry up offence. These type of backs are not as valuable when they have a big lead they are not the grind the clock out/wear the defense type backs

As a Best owner I am praying it is not a blow out early cause I know if it is Best will be watching from the sidelines for at least a quarter.

What sort of stats do you predict for a non PPR league?

As someone who follows the Lions closely the biggest weakness on this team is not the secondary as most think, it is the run blocking of the offensive line. The Lions were able to run the ball effectively in the first half vs the Bucs because they had the Bucs on their heals with the passing game. In the 2nd half when the Lions were up by 2 scores and tried to "run the game out" they couldn't move the ball when the Bucs were playing for the run. The interior of the offensive line, especially Raiola are undersized and in my opinion can't be relied on to allow the Lions to sit on a big lead and run out the clock. It almost cost them the game last week.

Every defense that goes up against the Lions is going to have to play the pass first. If they don't they'll get hurt, bad. Detroit isn't a team that's built to line up and pound the ball.

It's always tough to run the ball late in a game when the defense knows it's a run.

:goodposting: Have to favor this analysis over post #4. The line isn't that great, especially relative to the skill players. Ground and pound is not part of the current repertoire.

Guys, every single player in the NFL is at risk to get hurt on any given play, especially running backs. I'm so tired of seeing if he stays healthy as a caveat on any player that has an injury history. I'd feel pretty confident that every player in the NFL has had an injury at some point.

End mini rant.

The caveat is used with players like Best, Mathews and R Bush...maybe even Frank Gore. Best is a real injury risk and it should be a part of your production expectations. Last year Best was used differently. He was force fed the ball, even on the 1 yard line. This led to his huge output, low YPC. This year Best has a role on the offense and this will cap his monstrous upside, even without LeShoure.

If they get to the point where its a blowout.. I can see best getting a breather on the bench and keiland williams taking over the mikel leshoure role.. In PPR best is gold.. and should get his touches... but if its a blowout i can see schwartz making sure best getting some time on the bench and the 4 finute type offense to be on the field..

Yeah, I largely agree with you. If it is a blowout and DET goes into ball-control mode in the fourth quarter, Best might spend a decent chunk of that on the sideline. -I'm not banking on a blowout though, even though I definitely like DET in this one. It's a favorable matchup for Best. If you own him in PPR and he is healthy, there aren't too many games where he should be on your bench.
