I finally found something I'm great at: Cornhole (1 Viewer)

We tossed them for a few hours informally today. Played teams. I didn't lose. Felt good to be back. Caught fire about 90 minutes in, 14 in a row and 21 out of 22. if I could give one tip it's concentrate on the follow through. If your follow through is good you're going to be accurate.  Biggest mistakes i see other players make is either they get off balance or the follow through is non-existent. Follow through is everything. Going to be sore tomorrow

For your cornhole team, would you like any assistance in choosing a team name?

So easy for you, like catching an easy pop up in baseball.

You know, a ban of corn.

to play perfect cornhole, you must be in perfect balance.  a sore outside right ankle tells me you weren't.  I'm doubting the 21-22 and 14 in a row.

if you want to play this game long term, you are going to have to change your delivery technique.  as you age, your body won't hold up to the stresses of throwing cornhole the way you do now.

The pain has nothing to do with balance but the upward hop. Balance is perfect.

you think it is but its obviously not.  have someone take video of your next game and post it here so we can analyze your form.  I'd wager you're landing on the outside of your right foot because your hop is not straight up, which means your balance is off and when you miss, its typically to the right.

there really should be no hop in cornhole.  you most likely do this to compensate for a short 'backswing' in your throwing motion.  like I said, you will need to fix this to play this game at a high level long term.  what you are doing now is amateur hour.

If you want to play for rolls just let me know. 5 figure minimum, money in escrow and I'll be anywhere you want me to be within 12 hours.

Rosa Parks and MLK Jr Blvd in Detroit.  Its about 1:10 now so to be sure you have a full 12 hours, how about we say 1:30?

I haven't played competitively in years and won a few tournaments back in the day but I have since given up the game as I found it too easy.  I play once or twice a year now with friends at BBQs, mainly giving tips to cornhole wannabes.  I'd be worried but I doubt you could give me much of a game if you're hopping when you play.  that's like spinning the bars when you play foosball.  a big no-no on the circuit.

Where are you currently ranked in the ACO rankings?

Not interested in this shtick. Just PM me when the money is in escrow.

I once went 20 straight games without giving up a point against me. Every Cornhole my opponent would make I would stick one right after, it was the greatest day of my life.

time to hit the gym and work on those fast twitch muscle fibers. I suggest oly lift movements (clean, jerk, etc). you want to focus on moving your full body through a single plane explosively. when you're throwing a bag full of beans you really want to be controlling the movement through your hips. should be little to no arm action in there... maybe a slight jaunt from the elbow.
willie, i mentioned this last year and it is still true today.  forget this joker's advice about changing form.  the form is fine.  sounds like you're generating power through your hips and transferring that through to the bag - just like you want to be.  a little hop is fine.  hell i've seen kids practically jump (which I don't condone, but i've seen guys make it work) when throwing.  a little hop is fine.

the part about longevity is on the money, though.  sounds like you play the game for keeps.  you're leaving it all on the line every time you throw bags, and i'm not going to try to change that about you (imagine asking allen iverson to change the way he played ball!) but what I do want to ask - no, beg - is that you will get in the gym and commit to a lifting program.  with the way you play, you're going to take some licks.  if you keep going like this, i give you 2, 3 years tops at your current level.  then you start to see the skills fade.  you're not sinking as many as you used to.  some are barely finding the board.  before you know it you won't even be the best at a garden variety backyard BBQ.

a good lifting and mobilization program, especially for that ankle, will do wonders.  i'd like to see you reach your full potential.  let me know if you're ready to get serious about this.

seriously, if you want to get rid of that hop, PM me or post a vid and I can teach you to throw without it.  not only does it look girly, but it simply isn't as consistent as a step throw or standing throw.  if you ever want to step up to the big leagues, you can't be hopping around when you're throwing bags.

its a lot easier to change your motion than to spend 2-3 hours every day in the gym!

Willie - What's your throwing style?

Basic fold over? Softball pitch? The double-over? Backspin? Sling? Frisbee/pancake?

I recently switched to the Frisbee/pancake style throw. Total game changer for me. Took a little while to get used to it, but Im like a ####ing machine now.

You get a match there and @swirvenirvinand I will come watch.  He'll even buy a round and some tots at Mercury Bar afterwards

Got back on the horse today and threw some at a friend's house. About 8 players there, enough for a small cash tournament. I've never lost a singles game so as of late last summer nobody would let me play for money anymore. I wasn't happy about it because I love to play so after some finagling this off-season it was agreed (I may have alluded to this in another thread) that I would play blindfolded with a spotter. Wasn't sure what to expect but I won the tournament even with some early miscommunication. Most important thing I needed to know was exact description of bag positioning near the hole. Wasn't allowed to remove the blindfold while I was throwing, had to keep it on from 1st toss to 4th so basically couldn't move my feet until my turn was over if I wanted to stay lined up. If anything I feel like playing this way is going to make me an even better player. So much of the game is feel and man, I was in a zone out there after awhile. The games were closer than they were last year so hoping I can continue to play in the tournaments. Anyway, fun to get back out there.

It's now a circus act.

The best part being blindfolded is when you're trying to throw a "swish". Normally when you throw you hear the bag hit the board but when it goes directly in the hole on the fly you hear nothing but the subtle ughh of you're opponent. Hard to explain but the silence is beautiful.

Of course not/ our fearless hero can't hear the clicking of cameras while blindfolded. Too distracting to his heightened senses.
It's usually pretty quiet when I throw but I wouldn't care if there were distractions. To answer the other post, no security camera at my friends place, i don't think.
