his name is in all caps and that's all that counts mrs brochacho

Does anyone actually like Berman? I feel like I hear nothing about complaints from him going back 15 years (maybe longer). I don't know when his nicknames stopped being funny (if they ever were), but this guy seems to be the face of ESPN still after all these years. How is that possible if everyone seemingly hates this guy?
I started watching football after Don Fehr killed baseball for me. Berman was okay then. But reporting has moved on, and he hasn't. His stuff gets more and more outdated, and no one fixes the problem.

Nothing explains why Phil Sims has a job.
What's with the way Phil Sims pronounces "his" and "him"? They come out "hees" and "heem," as in "They got to heem at the line of scrimmage." Weird.

I don't really watch ESPN, so everyone but me probably knows this already. Berman looks like he gained 75lbs since I last saw him. Holy fat face.

Finally - he completely ruins golf, football, pretty much anything he touches.  No idea why they continue  to push him on us.

I think his worst event is definitely the home run derby. A night full of that awful back back back shtick...ugh.

So glad I was busy last night and didn't waste an evening listening to him and watching the home run derby.  I have a feeling that my life is better for it.

chirs blubberman stinks at making up nicknames brohans that is all i will say on it and i know a thing or two about great nicknames take that to the bank

Is ESPN not renewing his contract?  According to that link, they are not.

Do they not want him back, and he's retiring, or is he just retiring?

Couldn't believe he said that. Made me wonder, was it spontaneous or did he have that zinger ready to go?

Also can't stand his fascination with local geography. Every derby, it never fails - "Whoa! This one hit all the way to (insert neighborhood or hamlet here)!!!!   Wow Chris, you sure can read a map.

Is this serious?  I can't believe anything he ever says is spontaneous.

I see they got rid of the rest of the Countdown crew but kept this ########?  I rarely watch the show because he's so horrible but how can they keep him??

Because they have already drawn up the retirement papers.   3 more months and it's over.

there was speculation that many years ago he took shares in the company to stick around, the only on air talent to do so.  That's why he is still there today.

Sounds like he is gurgling snot/phlegm the entire time he rambles. He knows very little about the NFL in terms of Xs and Os, it's scary how very little he knows and what he does know is leftover 80s insight and quite honestly it's insulting to the viewers.

I have not watched the ESPN pregame in about a decade, that's the truth.

Chris Berman is stepping down from his post of hosting ESPN's NFL studio programming after 31 seasons but will remain with the network in a number of different roles after signing a new contract on Thursday.

Berman, a six-time National Sportscaster of the Year honoree, will remain as ESPN's host of NFL Primetime highlights after the NFL championship week games and the Super Bowl, and will have a role on Monday Night Countdown, offering opinion and perspective on historical events in the NFL. He will also call an MLB division series for ESPN Radio, and be part of the ESPY awards.

This should have happened years ago, as it was pretty clear the time had passed for his shtick and he was becoming an embarrassment, particularly his doing the play-by-play on the second game of the Week 1 Monday Night Football. Few people in broadcasting have the sense to know the right time to leave (see Madden, Vin Scully) and instead become a caricature of themselves as Berman has in recent years.

At 10:30 pm tonight ESPN is going to fellate Berman by airing a special about all he's done at the network over the years.   Be sure to set your DVR!!!!!!!! #mustseeTV

You could watch the first 3 minutes and see his whole career.  After that it's the same crap over and over

I watched it, mostly since it was right after the XFL 30 for 30.  Berman did a lot for ESPN and sports highlight shows.  Problem to me is he didnt really change over 30 years and his shtick got old. Probably should have retired and aired this tribute 5 years ago...

I thought the special was pretty good.  Primetime was must see tv for its time.
