I hate the gym in January (2 Viewers)

I would be willing to bet that our beloved workout advice-giver, John Rambo, has the classic "I never go to the gym" body.

I'm so fat I won't even bother this year. I'll pick this up in March after the crowd dies down.
It's amazing how eating chips and ice cream is so much easier than going to the gym. Especially once you get married and life is pretty much over anyway.
This. My wife is knocked up, she's not going anywhere. Who am I looking pretty for now?
Fortunately you're the husband, and this mentality is acceptable. If you were the wife, this attitude would be grounds for divorce. At least according to the folks on this board.
Agreed. As it should be.

I go to the gym five times a week. And even if it didn't have a positive effect on my appearance, I would still go for the health benefits of it. If you think the only benefit to working out is "looking pretty", then you should really read a book or something.

Your confusion confuses me.
He's been really weird the past couple of days. [More weird than usual.] I think he's back on the Ambien.

You might be really surprised with how many people work out more so for the "looking pretty" benefits instead of the health benefits. I would even go as far to say that the majority of people do it for the sole reason of "looking pretty" benefits instead of the health benefits (even though they are both perks).

Oh, I agree with you 100%. Same with diet foods. But whether they know it or not, they are doing something beneficial to their health, too.

Doesnt bother me, people tend to get the hell out of my way.

(Though I could see the issue if you were just doing cardio)

Same here. I use roughly half of the weights in the gym with squats and bench presses, so people tend to make way each time I enter the gym.

I admire you working out more for your health than your looks. Good for you

Oh, wait a minute. I never said that I work out more for my health. I just said I'd still do it for the health benefits even if it didn't have a positive affect on appearance. Vanity plys a huge role in it. The health bennies are just a bonus.

Just got back and did not see a bunch of new faces yet. Maybe a couple at most.

But then again they will probably put it off as late as they can.

That is indeed unfortunate but I like ugly FBGs as much as pretty FBGs. I think the best option for you may be:

Went tonight also. There were more people than usual but not so many that I couldn't get around. I'm guessing next week will draw out the lard asses for a month or so and then it will die back down. Luckily, not many people use the squat rack so it's all good.

They're too busy stuffing their face and getting in the last 30,000 calories in before they resolute to go to the gym.I'm going to feel like a seasonal gym member when I get in there Jan 1 at 6AM. Had shoulder problems that knocked me out of rotation coupled with crumbled willpower and a diet filled with more crap than I've had in the last 6-7 years combined. Gonna be at least until mid Feb until I work through the outer layer of belly I've accumulated since it got cold-ish. I really, really try to go at times when it won't be crowded, like 6-7 on weekends or after 9 on weekdays. That will usually keep me away from the once a year for a month or two crowd. However, no matter if I'm wounded and not going regularly or I'm on my preferred 5 days a week schedule I have nothing but support for the fatties coming in. It's hard enough for me to get myself there nearly every day, it takes some serious courage to get there when you're over 250lbs.I'm also 60-40 health-vanity. Had back surgery and shoulder problems and without staying in shape I get very, very sore. Like writhe on ice unable to stand up straight sore.

iI'm actually kind of cute. :lmao:

I've been stuffing as much chocolate down my throat as possible this month. Really trying to max out the gluttony. Please save me a treadmill -- see you there Jan 3 through Feb 15.

Going in at 6am to hopefully beat the herd.
Unless you are in the sticks, that's not happening. My gym is already packed at that time.
He only shows up once a year for a few days, you can't expect him to know that.
Sorry homie, I'm a 4-5 days a week guy, not one of the herd. Gym usually fills up after about 7, so if I get there at 6 I'll be able to get my 30-45 minute run in before they stampede the cardio machines. The weight room should be relatively the same as usual. And this is in the heart of Los Angeles, not the sticks.

God bless having an elliptical and a weight machine in my game room. :lmao:
Do you get to see a hot blonde 18 y/o college student in tight spandex on the elliptical machine in front of you for a half hour in your game room?
So what? It's not like you're hooking up with her.Do you get to watch porn on a 60" 3D HD plasma flat screen at the gym?
Who wants to?

I don't while I'm working out but the notion that some girl in spandex is a draw to go to the gym is just as flawed. Who cares either way? I'm there to work out.

Running is one of the most boring activities known to man, I like to have eye candy to pass the time.HD porn is no good for anyone that I can tell. Turns me off more than fat chicks on a treadmill.

 Aside from staying trim (I am 5'11" and weigh 184 lbs), my main goal for working out is to make my back not hurt (I used to have lower back pain pretty frequently). Ever since I started working out almost every day again 14 months ago, my back almost never hurts anymore. *knock on wood*

Hey guys. Since we're checking in, I'm 6'1" and hovering around 205 with 8% body fat. Does that mean I can take the month of January off and blow dry my balls at home now?

You have my permission to blow dry your balls wherever you like.

I noticed a few more people than normal. It wasn't packed to the max, but still more than normal. I imagine it will be late afternoon/early evening tonight, however.
