I post my least favorite commercials here (2 Viewers)

Welp, guys and gals, I think I've reached the point in life where I'd say that most ad "execs" and definitely the creative forces behind most advertising these days are probably 15-20 years younger than me (and the rest of us here, for the most part). That said, I'm finding more and more commercials annoy the crap out of me. When I was 10 or 11 and hung out at one buddy's place quite a bit and would have the TV on, I always noticed his Dad muted all commercial breaks. Always thought that was somewhat peculiar, but he must have just reached the same "annoyance apex" (a term I just coined) that I've apparently set foot on. Case in point, a couple of doozies that make me want to punch the TV:

1. I think it's an ad for Papa John's, when a couple of 30-somethings are loading up some new pizza they have where there's shredded cheddar on the crust (ooh, so inventive!), and one of the dolts says something to the effect of "the cheese gods must have bestowed this cheese upon us", and the other moron says "no, it was probably just a local dairy", to which she responds "yeah, that tracks". That TRACKS? GTFO.

2. Another moronic pair talking about the new Bet-ESPN app, and one dummy is blabbering on about how nice it would be to have an all-in-one sports app where you could (gasp) get highlights from AND make bets on your favorite teams. Well, the 30-something year old sassy pants chick says "you're literally describing Bet-ESPN... which exists". For the love of God shut up.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, get off my f'in lawn.... damn whippersnappers.

There are a couple big companies highlighting "Hey we now have features that our competitors have had for years now!"

Apple, I'm not impressed you can edit people out of pictures. Pixel says "Hi", by the way.

I actually think they accomplished their mission. Assigned seating isn’t a “feature.” In fact, unassigned seating was a draw for Southwest. People who were loyal to (loyal is an admittedly tough word to type) their brand are disappointed. I never cared, but I’m not sure I like the change. Very few benefits accrue (gosh that’s an awful sentence but I’m on my phone) from assigned seats.

Who has ever thanked assigned seating except those with good ones at sporting events and guys that luck out next to the infrequent occurrence of being assigned seats next to a beautiful woman (I’d actually dislike that and would instantly sweat through my shirt or something—I’m 51 and things are wrapping up at the get-together, you know?). Anyway, “ feature” it isn’t. And that is a boon to their marketing department that it’s being referred to as such.
 
I was boarding a United flight last week, and there was a Spirit flight boarding next gate over. I have never flown Spirit but that was the most insane boarding process I've ever heard. People in line with the gate agent to get assigned a seat. Heard group 9 mentioned a few times. heard baggage costs over the intercom some. Spirit had been boarding for over 30 mins when we started to board in United group 2. Our flight left before theirs. So like 1 hr boarding process? It was very odd. And the passengers did not look much like A list material.

The point .. about time SW moved to assigned seats. What the hell took so long.

I've got one for you: movie theaters going to assigned seating was a game changer.

Yeah Spirit is ghetto. Southwest has started to creep into this territory. Or, at minimum, became the "family airline"... which is fine by most stretches, but when I'm traveling for business I like a little more decorum. Now that SWA has gone into the "assigned seats" space, I'll likely just fly another airline when I make shorter trips.

Not sure how this got into an airline discussion, but to keep on topic, SWA's commercial is dumb.
 
CBS Sunday Morning had a segment on the actors in some of the more famous commercials. Stephanie Courtney--Flo from Progressive--had a really good spirit about the whole thing.

All State commercials. There's already too many "dumb guy" commercials, but All State takes the "america must be the dumbest country on earth" meme to the next level. Their commercials are horrible. can't stand them.

i mentioned to my wife, tis the season of the idiot man commercials. giant house and smug smarmy wife included. the guy will appear flustered and you wonder how he got dressed that morning, let alone married.
 
Any commercial on a beach. The Jones family, enjoying the sunny, gorgeous beach. And throughout the entire commercial, not another living being is seen. I'd love to know where these pristine, empty beaches are. Because every nice beach I've been to has been packed umbrella to umbrella.

I rarely see more than 3 or 4 people when I go to the beach. And for that reason I am not saying where that is . :pickle:
