I was wrong about ___________? (1 Viewer)

It seems that in our divided political culture folks on either side will double down on their positions even in the face of compelling evidence. I think most people value validation of their beliefs MORE than making sure their beliefs are right.

I'm sure religion and politics will be the first things many people reading this will think of, but I'd like to leave those out if possible.

What is something you believed strongly for years that you've had to disregard in the face of evidence?

Mine - I used to believe poor people have plenty of opportunity to make it out of poverty. If they didn't they were either lazy or wanted to live off of others (welfare for example).

Now I believe the conditions of poverty are very difficult to escape and the examples of upward mobility are exceptions.

Actually, you are wrong now.

I used to believe that if you treated your gf/wife nice they would reciprocate.

I've come to learn that can easily be interpreted as weakness and that being an a hole is not only necessary at times but appreciated by a so in a relationship.

I thought that Internet commerce would never catch on due to people being reluctant to give their personal/credit card information to a stranger that they couldn't see or hear.

The second Iraq War. I thought democracy might take root there much more quickly, if it ever does even resemble democracy.

Then again, I did think democratic dissent in Iran was stronger, so I wasn't totally wrong.

I also was way more against funding for the indigent and much more pro-life life than I am now, but I'm not sure there's a right/wrong dichotomy there.

I used to believe soccer was extremely boring and unwatchable and would never even be close to marketable in the US.

I watch soccer more than the 4 major sports I grew up on.

I think you might have a brain eating worm inside you.

Better have that checked out.

I wasn't for gay marriage until a few years ago. I was never against it, It just didn't matter to me

I was for legalization of marijuana before I was against it. Now I'm for it.

I would not have an abortion myself, but I've learned that it's none of my business what other people do, so I now stay away from those conversations as well.

Parenting. Turns out it doesn't matter what you do or how good and stable of a home life you give them, they still turn out to be idiots.

I was wrong about people who I thought were my friends after suffering the greatest loss one could ever imagine.

I was certain, and petrified it would occur, that President Obama would be assassinated while in office.

Makes sense back then.

I thought smart phones were a niche fad. I mean we all already had computers.

I always knew there was SOME correlation, but I used to think that there was much less correlation than there is between a baseball team's payroll and its ability to win

It is OK for your dog to live outside all of the time.

Marijuana should be illegal.

Gay marriage should be illegal.

Only weak and lazy people get depressed.

Never owning an Apple product. Now I have an iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air, and Apple TV. Damn you, Apple!
20 years ago we had these Apple PowerMac 5500s or whatever.  They were garbage.  I hoped everyday that we would switch to Windows.  The iMac changed that.  The version they put out in 1999 was damn good.

Grew up using the term [bundle of sticks] as a casual insult.  A lot.

Would have bet against text measaging becoming a thing.  Didn't really get it until smartphones came along.
