if freakin Ron Dayne can get a starting gig, why not W.Green? (1 Viewer)

He has talent im sure. So why isnt he picked up? I thought for sure when he was cut that someone would scoop him up for free, or if anyone got injured he could fill in and possibly take over.

Whats with him guru's?

Are you W. Greens Brother?

Both have the talent, no question. Neither was willing to do the work to play in the NFL early in their career. Dayne has made that commitment at this point. I don't think Green has. I think Green still thinks he can get by on talent alone. You can't. Everybody has talent. Hard work seperates the pros.

Because only the Texans are stupid enough to grab Dayne off the scrap heap and they couldn't fit Green into the back of the pickup truck that picked up Dayne at the landfill. They didn't want to make 2 trips, so they left Green behind.

He's probably going to be playing with Mauric Claurette in zebra stripes, and I don't mean officiating. Solitary confinment bound.

Green was placed on IR by Cleveland correct?
I think he had an injruy settlement with Cleveland and is now a FA.
Correct. I too am wondering about this. While he obviously has had some problems, I hadn't gotten the impression that he didn't work hard or prepare. Any Browns fans with some insight on this? I too have him stashed on my dynasty roster hoping for a reappearance somewhere.

Team's are willing to deal with immature troublemakers if they are loaded with talent, but when they have minimal talent, forget about it.

If he was a 1500 yard rusher, teams might be willing to take a flier on the guy, thinking that that they may be able to straighten out his head.

The fact is, even if a team took that chance and, somehow, was able to do what his college coach, nor his pro coaches were able to do, you're payoff is just an backup running back. It's just not worth it.

I had thought that he'd had some mental or emotional problems that were finally getting addressed after that bizarre stabbing incident a few years ago. Was that not the case?

Mere speculation here, but the feeling I get is that Dayne does work hard and is a "good" guy whereas Green isn't the most likeable guy in the world and with running backs seemingly plentiful in the NFL, he's not worth the chance.

I don't know much about Ron Dayne, but I can tell you about William Green. The problem with Green is a severe lack of instincts. Green is a fairly powerful, fast runner with a lot of physical ability, but he has very little instinctual or mental ability. He does not have the vision to find holes quickly, let alone anticipate their opening. Even when he does find a hole (which, granted, are few and far between in Cleveland) he does not exhibit the burst needed in the NFL to take advantage of it. So, typically what you see from him is that the QB hands the ball off to him and he kind of hesistates and waits, and either runs into his blockers or the defense. Most of his runs are negative yard or 1-2 yard gains. Every now and then he'll bust off a big run, but only when the hole is gaping and he has time to get up to speed.

When given time and space, Green has enough athletic ability to show something. That's why he was a special teams standout on the Browns. He could get down the field pretty quick and make some athletic stops. It if wasn't for his special teams play he would've been kicked off the squad as soon as Romeo got here. That, coupled with his youth and potential for development is what kept him around for so long. He was also a very hard worker (which Romeo remarked on a few times) so that probably helped too.

The off the field issues were a problem, but it is generally regarded that he's cleaned up but is still not good enough to start in the NFL.
