I'm curious about the posters here (1 Viewer)

it seems like no matter what the topic is every other post ends up twisting it around to tell us what they're winning, or who's on their team, etc.

now, I could maybe even understand this if there was some lucky select few winning the lottery and wanted to tell everybody about it -- it'd still be just as obnoxious, but I'd understand it, but probably more than half the posters here are winning something or other!!

I'm sure everyone knows what I'm talking about, but if I needed to I could probably easily find 100 examples that left me wondering wtf they decided to include that particular line in their post.

even though it probably sounds like it, this thread isn't actually just to ##### about this --- the serious question for these type of posters is:

why do you do this?

and do you realistically think people know who you are, or at some minimal level can even connect these posts w/your user name, so that at some point they see another one of your posts and think "hey, that's the guy who's in his fantasy football championship!", or "hey, isn't that the guy who has joe addai on his roster?!"

these are serious questions.

What do you expect guys to "man up" to? To admit they are self-centered putzes about their teams? That is obvious when they post and give us those unnecessary details.

I think you need to check out the FFA thread entitled "Sig worthy posts from 'Sharks'". This will go a long way to explaining what bothers you... HTH.

Guilty as charged...of creating a signature that stings everytime another domino falls. :)
hahahaha....and it probably does, too.hey -- did joe shrink that thing down?but, it's not talking about your fantasy team --- I don't really even remember you mentioning yours.you are all ball.

This year no team, no players, all Pats all the time. Smartest move I made all year.

I think it is just human nature that people want to share with others their good fortunes or perhaps the human need to seek some sort of consolation when something bad happens.

The fantasy community is a tight nit group made up of a diverse and varied cross section of sexes, races and socio-economic classes. The sport binds people together and makes them feel close and not just one of the Smiths'.

And...um....er...speaking of Smith. How about Steve Smith?!!? I have him in 2 leagues that I am in the championship in and boy, am I glad I started him last night--19 fantasy points. We don't get PPR in both leagues and I was really torn about starting him. My choices were Boldin, Smith or Stallworth, do you all think I made the right call? Now RB is a whole different story since I own Peterson, Alexander and Henry and I can only start 2. Who should I start there? Now I drafted Peterson in one league, but traded for him in another--of course I had to give up alot to get him. This is my second year in a row in the league championship--we get a really cool trophy and lots of money of course that is assuming I win, but I am wondering if Manning or Warner is the better start. Can you believe I have the same QBs in both championship leagues?? What are the odds of that?? We get 6 points per passing Td’s--so I think Warner is the better start.

What was the original question??

yeah, I have found that ff can really detract from enjoying the mighty pats.when I failed to get randy moss in a preseason trade, I was getting pretty pissed every time he scored --- which meant I got pissed a lot.^^^ now, see how this comment is actually in context, fbg posters?

There are useless posts all over the board. Why do the ones where posters say how they won bother you the most?

dude....I'm not sure if I can make it any clearer than it was the couple times I repeated it in my post --- I'd use flash cards if that was possible.I'll type slowly.I..am...curious...as...to...why....they....do....it.....because....it....seems...pretty....nutty.I did not say it is the one thing in the world that bothers me the most.if this question bothers you so much, maybe I'll start 10 more threads about everything that bothers me, but I think that'd be a little narcissistic.

I think this place would be better off if everyone showed a little more tolerance. Worrying about underlying motives of posters is not that big of a deal in big picture. I've seen more negative posting this year than anytime in the past. I guess that goes along with the increased number of posters over the years, but we sure didn't have as much of it in the old yeller days, or from 2003 to 2006. The hate has got to stop. We need to think about the real reason why we're here in the first place.

I agree. From my perspective, the negativity spike took place right at the beginning of this season. It felt like another fantasy website had been shutdown and there was flood of negative energy at that time. Coincidence? I don't know; it's just an empircal observation.

That's a good observation. We probably picked up posters from a website that was primarily negative in nature.

Yes, that is correct....I like to come where people who view my team and insights know that I'm a football genius....any other obvious questions????

Probably because people have to read your mindless Pats drivel all day long and just want something to annoy you with.

Because this is a community. Lots of people connect here. I realize that's hard to understand for some.Because of how many posters we have, we have to have some (sometimes painful) rules about what kinds of threads can be in what forums, but the reality is that lots of people care about other posters here.J

Only problem is when the Pats get beat in the playoffs, what will you have left? :lmao:

We all love FF here so i would think that going to the FF superbowl in thier league they might be happy or proud of all the time and effort they put into getting there and just want to share it with the people they converse with all season....or they just want to bore you to tears :hophead:

For what it's worth, I added my roster to my sig not in an attempt to impress people with my omgawesome fantasy skillz, but because I was beginning to participate more in the dynasty discussion and when people accused me of owning a player, I wanted them to at least accuse me of owning the RIGHT player. Like when people were telling me I was a Travis Henry owner at the beginning of the year, and therefore anything I said about Henry was tainted by my ownership and worthless. Truth is, I own Selvin Young, so anything I said about Henry was tainted by my ownership of YOUNG and was therefore worthless. :link:

Also, I'm not gung-ho on tooting my own horn, but if there's ever a designated bragging thread and I feel like I have some bragging to do, sure, I'll participate. Why? Because I'm proud of my accomplishments. I pour a lot of time into this hobby, and since I don't play for money, the only thing I'm playing for is pride. I'm just a proud fantasy football owner. Do you ask parents who show you pictures of their kids that the keep in their wallets why they do that? Do you say "do you honestly think I care, or that I'll remember what your kids look like, or that it matters to me?"

Personally, I don't care when people show me their kids, but I look anyway, tell them how beautiful the little trolls are, and let them be happy, if blissfully unaware.

The answer is that a lot of the self-proclaimed "sharks" (lord I hate that word) around here are actually very insecure. They mention their own teams and players in every post they can because underneath all the bravado they're desperate for some feedback, advice or just a pat on the back from others.

Another reason is that at this time of year, the only people really active in the shark pool are those who are still in their playoffs and/or championships. Everyone else has pretty much cleared out except for a few of the hard core year rounders. So you're getting a skewed perspective at this time - of course all these people are going to talk about is how they're in the championship and what they're doing/needing/hoping for. Check out what happens somewhat next week, and especially the weeks after that - it'll be like a totally different shark pool. Some discussion of NFL playoffs and news, college players, teams, bowls, dynasty related talk, mock drafts, analysis of the just completed NFL season and its implications for fantasy purposes, all that kind of thing.

I agree with lots of the sentiment in this thread about tolerance towards others. I am new here but have read quite a few threads here that turn into people arguing over silly things and personally insulting others over mundane things such as which team/running back is better or even a better fantasy option in a given week. I've read these threads over a second and third time and it's pointless how those threads turn into long threads of 3-4 people insulting eachother can name calling.

It's the Holiday season and would be nice to show tolerance and maybe even people going out of their way to help other people. This is the biggest fantasy weekend of all 52 weekends in the year and it's human nature to seek opinions of others when you're not sure of something has has importance to you. I will do my best to help anyone who needs help and treat people with the same respect I would hope to receive, it's called the "Golden" rule for a reason.

Thanks, the Flash cards helped. Here is a trick that has helped me through the years....You don't have to read every post. If you see someone posting their roster and you could care less, just scroll down to the next post.

If I could care less, my caring is unremarkable and not worthy of saying "I could care less". Now if I couldn't care less - that would be worth saying.
