In this thread I rank my favorite post-Beatles Beatles songs: 291-1. (2 Viewers)

Paul beat us all to the punch. Now we just have to figure out what goes in it:

The sinews, the nerves and the veins.
My piano was boldly outspoken, in attempts to repeat its refrain.

So I stood with a knot in my stomach,
And I gazed at that terrible sight

Of two youngsters concealed in a barrel,
Sucking monkberry moon delight.

Sir Paul turns 80 on FD weekend. Which reminds me…

What is a Dad’s favorite Beetles song?

Here Comes the Pun

What is a horse’s favorite Beetles song?

Hay Chewed

You know the real problem with the ending to Hey Jude?

it’s too salty

LMK how long it took you on the last one.

well, @simey's & my favorite youtube sensations - the Clark Family Quarantine Kids - are at it again with their b'day wk McCartney tribute. i dont think it would be out of line for our kristacular leader & inspiration to contrast frontgirl Bellamy's sense of rhythm & pitch with the late Linda McCartney's. after all, she's almost eight now.......

The Modfather, Susanna, Gary

- Weller based so much of the Jam on those mid era Beatles recordings, unabashedly so.

- Susanna is one of the ultimate fangrls, and still the most adorable woman on the planet ... apply the Bangles to what i said of the Jam.

- the Kemp brothers played the Krays, and crafted one of the most incredible blue-eyed soul/New Romantic tunes of the 80s - lotta respect coming outta this chap.

🥳🎂🍾

Happy 80th Birthday to the greatest musician of all-time - Paul McCartney.    Hard to believe.  I grew up with the Beatles music being the back-drop of my childhood, and I feel truly blessed for that.  Special thanks to @krista4 and @Getzlaf15 for their incredible work in here, bringing to light just how much the Beatles have shaped my life.  Thank you.

Here's a couple of clips from Paul's concert in the Meadowlands on Thursday.  Enjoy.

My favorite as well.  Was watching a 2001 interview that McCartney had with Howard Stern, and when the topic came up about Julian, Paul got emotional and wouldn't talk about it.  Seems like they had a great relationship.  Would love to hear what you all know about this relationship, good or bad.

Keep me honest here @krista4

Julian has said he had more fond memories of Paul when he was a youngster than his dad. Famously Paul wrote Hey Jude after stopping in to check in on Cynthia. John was an inconsistent presence. Like Julian spent summer 1971 at Tittenhiust Park with John & Yoko. Best summer ever. When he went back to his mom’s he wondered how long it moght last this time? End of summer they moved to NYC and John never went back to the U.K.

Julian had a falling out for a time with Macca in 2011 because somehow he didn’t getting an invite to his 3rd wedding. As near as I can tell (& Krista probably knows the real answer) it was a misunderstanding. Lennon was in Italy when the invites went out and in New York when the London wedding took place. He lashed out at Paul, said he and his mother were tired of being snubbed, they wouldn’t be eradicated from the history of the band.

Julian & Macca later reconciled. Water under the bridge. He def had a lot of anger and bitterness to work through back then. He got a pittance from the estate and fought Yoko for 16 years before getting a $25M settlement (Sean and his mom got $200M and today their wealth isn’t far behind Paul’s.)

These days he is in a better place  He doesn’t ever have anything bad to say about any of them. Remembers the force of good Paul was. Made his peace with Yoko - he’ll say she’s shrewd, at worst. The biggest influence for that shift is he loves his brother. If he hurts Yoko, he hurts Sean. His brother means everything to him so he.stopped bashing Yoko.

Both Lennon’s sons are good dudes in my book. I get the impression in interviews they genuinely like and admire Paul. He is a massive link to their dad. Sean especially is fascinated, even at 46, with understanding and learning everything about his dad. He’s such a sweet man.

Juluan stopped making music and is an acclaimed fine arts photographer.

Sean is mostly caring for Yoko these days. He runs her affairs and she rarely ventures out. At 89 she requires a wheelchair to move about.

Oh I wouldn’t even try to explain the relationships in a few paragraphs so I’m glad you gave it a shot, @BobbyLayne.  There’s the whole May Pang part to get into as well, as she tried so hard to reconcile John with both Julian and Paul and turned out to be a great friend to Cynthia, too.

There’s way too much to say here, so I’ll just make a minor correction that Julian has not stopped making music and in fact released a couple of songs this year in advance of a full album release later this year.  I do think of him as more of an activist and a photographer than musician overall, though.

Couldn’t agree more that both he and Sean turned out to be fantastic humans.

ETA:  As to the original question, Paul has been like a dad to Julian all along, minor blips notwithstanding.  Paul clearly always wanted to be a dad, and I think Linda’s daughter might have charmed him into that relationship more than Linda did.  He absolutely doted on Julian from the get-go and maintained a better post-Yoko relationship with him than John did.

I saw this post Thursday and meant to come back to it, but then forgot until now.  They're amazing.  They won me over long ago against all odds (I despise "Youtube sensations" and precocious families filming their lives), and they're getting better (all the time 🎵).  That's a helluva difficult song.

Bellamy v. Linda

Rhythm - Bellamy hops around arrhythmically, seemingly unaware of what's playing in the background, but comes in for her vocals right on the beat.  Linda

Winner - Bellamy

Pitch - Bellamy knows her spots and doesn't overdo them.  She takes on Paul's high harmonies with aplomb.  Linda

Winner - Bellamy

Intangibles - Bellamy exudes pure joy.  Linda had a rockin' mullet.

Winner - Tie

Linda beats Bellamy on keyboards, but Bellamy's dad keeps giving her more opportunities, and she is improving.

Figured this was the best place to drop this. I’m planning on attending the morning sessions. I’ve seen Jack numerous times touring with the Fab Faux. Looks like a tremendous unique opportunity.

The Beatles and You: The Composition, Performance, and Recording of Their Classic Songs

This five-day online workshop held with expert analyst, performer, and producer—all Beatles specialists—is devoted to the group’s compositional, performing, and recording procedures, and what their resulting music means to their listeners. Through presentations, lively discussion, short readings and writings, video and live demonstrations, arranging and coaching of singing and instrumental parts, and a “virtual band” remote recording project, participants will choose levels of involvement and areas of desired concentration in exploring the Beatles’ musical world.

The week will proceed with real-time morning presentations involving lecture, rare audio outtakes, photos and diagrams, and—for those desiring more intensive involvement—interactive afternoon sessions, all scheduled to accommodate a range of time zones. Those wishing to discuss the music from a musicological and cultural perspective can elect Track 1; those wishing instrumental instruction on the Beatles’ playing styles in a non-judgmental environment can elect Track 2; and those desiring participation in a “virtual band” recording can elect Track 3. Videos and short readings made available in the months preceding the workshop will introduce ideas and techniques to be explored in our time together. Those electing afternoon sessions will have an opportunity to share their projects in a celebration to be scheduled soon after the week’s end.

@BroncoFreak_2K3, were you at the class today?  I couldn't believe how few students there were.  The "instructors" outnumbered them!  I thought it was fascinating, though.  Of course I particularly enjoyed when the very cute drummer was talking about Ringo.

195. Oh My My (Ringo, 1973) Spotify YouTube

(Ringo #11)

This was the third single from the album, Ringo, and reached #5 on the US charts. You’d think that because this was a Ringo song, we wouldn’t hear the name Jim Keltner here, but nooooooooooo! Keltner joined Ringo on drums, with the usual cast of Voormann on bass, Preston on keyboards, and Tom Scott on sax. DID THESE PEOPLE NEVER SLEEP? Martha Reeves and Merry Clayton provide great backing vocals. Some day I will remark about a Ringo song more than “this is a fun, bouncy singalong,” but this is not that day. Strap on your disco dancing shoes and boogie down.
Listening to the Ringo album all the way through for the first time. I think I would have this higher (Binky: lower). It's catchy as hell and has great drive and momentum for a song that's more pop than rock.

Sounds like some sort of showcase or something or other

So weird.
While on a walk yesterday this tune popped into my head.
Never in my entire life have I ever randomly had the tune Monkberry Moon Delight pop into my noggin so it made me smile.
OK, pass it off as 'one of those things' but I wake up early due to daylight savings and rummage through my news scroll and see this and automatically know what song MacCartney is talking about.

A Paul McCartney Song Got Its Name Because His Kids Used the Wrong Word for ‘Milk’

Paul discusses the Beatles connection to Jimmy Savile.

Interview for The Independent • Friday, November 23, 2012 Paul McCartney talks Jimmy Savile and (unusually for him) the real John Lennon Interview of Paul McCartney

Nice to see Harrison getting the love. He is responsible for some of the best Beatles songs. My dad (huge Beatles fan) told me that John, and Paul always kind of limited George's contributions......I don't know if it was ego or what......I mean it probly was.

They were both somewhat dismissive of him, but in different ways. John flat-out disappeared for a lot of George's songs in the mid-to-late period and didn't help or even perform on them. Paul would help George a lot in developing his songs, but in a "Paul" way, which oftentimes seemed to be "Paul knows best." If you watched the "Get Back" documentary last year, you could see both of these playing out. It was sad to know about it but even more heartbreaking to watch. I mean, songs like "All Things Must Pass," "Isn't It a Pity" and "Let It Down" were practiced by the band and rejected! Other songs went back even further, like "Not Guilty," which could have been on the White Album.

Some of it was probably ego, and some came from George still being seen as the "little brother" of the group, despite only being a year younger than Paul.
