INSANITY (1 Viewer)

Got the DVD's last weekend and started up on Monday. Had no idea I was that out of shape. The warmups make me tired. Fit test was ok. Did way less switch kicks then most on here, but for some odd reason did more of those plank position knee lift things. About average on everything else.Anyway, missed day 5 so I could do some things around the house but will make it up today and not take sunday off.Starting at 5'9" 205lbs and hope to get down to around 185.Love this workout and hate it at the same time. Reminds me of training for highschool soccer before we could touch a ball. All cardio, then do some pushups. More cardio then some crunches. More cardio then jump over stuff. Good times. I've had so much more energy all week and have been sleeping better. Lower back pain is dissappearing and I actually have a feeling of accomplishment after the vids.I haven't gone through all the videos yet. Do they ad more ab specific stuff (not just the ab blast thing once in a while)? Not really feeling the burn in my mid section like I thought I would, although my back feeling better must mean my core is getting stronger.
In the second week you add on about 15 minutes of abs to pure cardio. But, I found as I went through each video a second and third time, my form became much better and resulted in a much higher ab workout. Bad form = little ab work. Good form = abs constantly working.

love this dvd set.. I finished Insanity at the start of June and am full marathon training mode (70-80 mpw) but I still try and find time for a round of max cardio conditioning. Did it yesterday right after an 8 mile run and slept for a solid 3 hours right after.

Week 8 - Day 1 - Complete

Besides being in the full swing of the max workouts I have hit my stride with my eating lifestyle(not a diet). I actually like eating more often than what I used to and I am never hungry. If I even pound down 50% of what my past meals used to be, I feel like I am going to explode. I got the disks for P90X a few weeks back and am going to jump into them as soon as my weights get shipped to me roughly 1-2 weeks after I should be done with Insanity. I think I made a great choice with trying Insanity first to decrease my body fat and then go more into the muscle performance of P90X. Although, I have been following a more P90X stage one meal plan than Insanity's plan. I started at 182 pounds and now am down to 168.4 pounds while I know I have gained muscle in my arms, shoulders, legs, and core. Besides the decent strength and great endurance gains, my body has toned up quite a bit. I now have concave in obliques even when I stick out my stomach, instead of flabby fatness. I can catch a glimpse of my upper ribcage and soon to be upper abs when flexing. Also, who knew, people have hip bones that stick out? My shoulders and thighs have had the fat just melt away. My waist used to be a 36 and now is a 33 while I can get by wearing a medium shirt(actually fit into a small for S&G's) instead of a XL.

Two weeks left #####es! :)

Damn dude.Bravo.

Is there anything out there like P90, but for GAINING weight/muscle? My regular routine has always kept me fit with low body fat (think Patrick Swayze) but I'd like to try something new that would add some weight to my frame, without eating a dozen donuts a day.
There's no such thing as a hard gainer, only an under eater. If you want to put on muscle, you have to increase your protein intake, but you body can only handle a certain amount in one sitting, that's why it's important to each a bunch of meals throughout the day. My guess is, if you laid out your diet, you'd see why your workouts have you looking like Patrick Swayze.
I'm not disputing that I probably don't eat enough at each "meal" (6 times a day.) It just doesn't seem like a program like P90 would be right for me, when I see a lot of results reporting 20lb losses, etc.
P90x is not for gaining weight - it will give you lean muscle mass due to the high reps and high cardio aspect of it. Other programs out there are better for that, most will be low rep, high weight things I'd imagine. But I agree that it's mostly diet. You should be eating 1.5-2x as many grams of protein as your body weight. Also, thanks for the responses regarding my question earlier. Makes good sense to me.
Ok, I've reviewed my daily intake and made some adjustments to increase my protein from about 70g/day to almost 150g/day. I'm 5' 7", 140, 12% body fat. (ETA: That was an estimate. Actual starting stats: 136, 14%)That's going to include an 8oz whey shake with milk. It's been awhile since I've done shakes and used to use Weight Gainer from GNC back in the day. But any recommendations on good, bulk whey powder?
Update: Since doubling my protein and adding about 550 calories to my daily diet, I've gained almost 8 pounds of muscle in 4 months. I also split my weight workouts across 6 days a week and reduced my cardio. My current goal is to get to 150 pounds before the end of September, while keeping body fat 15% or less.

Week 8 done. Dropped 4.6 pounds this week. I'm down to 163.8 and the fat is literally just sheeting off of me. I know that I'm gaining muscle because every strength move I am able to more reps and or for much longer periods with squats/lunges. I'm not hungry, actually eating more than I used to by a lot, just much healthier and smarter. This week was the first time I could do the full set of level 3 drills each time it was a move. Before I could only get about 1/2 way through the second set of 16 reps and then die on the repeat of it later on. One week left!

Yesterday(Wednesday) I had a day to remember. It all goes back to playing some full court pick up basketball with some friends on my off day that set this all rolling. So I wake up, eat some breakfast, and about a half hour later I throw in the max interval circuit disk. I get through the warm up and stretches and I know its just not going to workout. This was day 59 of 63 in the program that I have followed to a T so far. I make a quick decision and decide to shut it down after the first set in the first circuit because my legs just had nothing left in the tank. I decide to call the warm up, stretch, and 5 minute main exercise my core cardio and balance day that was scheduled for today(Thursday), while flipping it with my max interval circuit. So today comes along and I was worried that my legs would still be dead as I start up the max interval disk for the last time in the program. In the first 10 seconds I know that I made the correct decision yesterday and my legs had the most explosiveness to date so far. My endurance, form, and height in jumps were off the charts. I could do most sets to completion with the correct form while my lower body just exploded with its jumps through most of the program. One day each of max plyo and max cardio left until it is over....for now. :lmao:

Lesson learned:

Take an extra day if things just don't feel right. It easily made 10x the difference in my performance.

Last day is tomorrow. Completed Max Plyo tonight while people were eating ice cream and talking #### while watching me. A few decided to join in and promptly shut up as they died on my floor as I continued to power on while taunting their carcusses'. Tomorrow I am going to a lake for the day at 6AM, so I guess a day of swimming will count as my last cardio day. :lmao:

Starting this today and very excited. Got the dvds from a friend who used it. However, I do not have the exact schedule. Can someone post it, please. There seem to be 10 programs. So what exactly is the schedule to translate that into 60 days?

Thanks!!!

Btw, if it is already in this thread - my bad. But given the 25 pages and the fact that it may not even be in there, I figured I'd ask.

Finally, anything I need to know before I start this?! Thanks!

Thinking about calling this thing or just starting over on month 1 come august or sept, month 2 workouts really suck imo and I pulled something in my chest either lifting at the gym or doing this. I am done for the week regardless and worried I wont want to pick it back up come next week.
have yet to gain any weight back since i quit this, kept lifting at the gym and I am at an even 200 now (lost about 8 anyways). Thinking about starting back up come sept. and see if I can get further than day 40 or whatever I made it too.Ned did you finish it?

Nope. I burnt out and got sick of it. I've moved on to training for my first half marathon. Buddy of mine challenged me to it, so it's on.

Me and gf got through 7 weeks religiously and then got burnt out with 2 weeks to go.She still pops in a random month 1 workout a couple times a week as part of her weekly routine. I went back to my 5-6 days a week elliptical/pushup routine and haven't revisited Insanity yet, although am thinking about revisiting some month 1 videos soon.

after so many weeks of Insanity, I hate it. I genuinely hate it. when it's time to put in the DVD and start a routine, I get the same feeling of dread that I get when it's time to visit the in-laws.

was that you offdee that was saying you continued to lose weight after you stopped doing the workouts? anyways, my wife was down about 6-7 pounds when we stopped doing it and she continued to drop another 7 somehow. So I guess you could say she dropped about 15 total because of it, or maybe not, dunno but she looks damn good now days.

Yep, I only lost about 2lbs during the entire 7 week period, and then lost maybe 5 pounds the following month after not doing Insanity.Weird, but probably correlating to my metabolism going up from the workouts, but doing less of these explosive type workouts made the leg muscle mass drop a bit ending up in lowered overall weight.

I finished the program last Saturday. The last four days were the toughest to motivate myself because it seemed like my body hit a wall and couldn't recover like the first eight weeks. I really like the workouts and feel like I kicked ### afterwards, just wish I wasn't surrounded by people who are fat and lazy. The few times I had a workout partner or audience the routines flew by and it was fun competing. This will definately be part of my stable of workouts but next up is P90X after I finish this recover week.

Just started this last night. Me and the Mrs. will be taking this on together. With 3 young kids we have decided that we will do the videos together each night after the kids are in bed. We have been in a bad habit of watching the tube all night so this will be a nice way to break that habit.

My wife and I are both runners and both of us have trouble excercising our core like we should to improve our running. After the first test tape I can tell I am in for a tough 60 days.

Got through 7 (of the total 9) weeks religiously. Time constraints and body just needed a rest...this was 2-3 months ago.

I'm now back on this in a limited capacity. Plan to do the 3 main month one videos (Plyo Cardio Circuit, Cardio Power & Resist. and Pure Cardio) on rotation every Monday and Wednesday.

For example this week:

Monday: Plyo Cardio Circuit

Tuesday: Elliptical and sit ups

Wednesday: Cardio Power & Resistance

Thursday: Elliptical and push ups

Friday: Optional day

Saturday: Elliptical, push ups and situps

Sunday: Off

Did the Plyo Cardio Circuit video on Monday.....was sore all over again (but the good kind, when you know you did some work).

DIG DEEPER! (twice a week)

I have done pure cardio once each of the past two weeks for the first time since completing the 60 days about six weeks ago. It kicked my ### and i could maybe do 75% of what I had been completing. I love how great of a workout these are while being quick and supplying eye candy.

Ok folks - starting today:

A little about me - after my divorce I weighed 280 lbs (I am 5'10") I was the fattest I've ever been obviously.

Starting in January of this year, I started dieting.

Starting in May of this year I started the Couch to 5K running program and I've completed that.

Starting in June of this year I started lifting weights as well.

It all came together and I weight in on September 1st at 241 lbs. So I'd lost approximately 40 lbs over the course of 9 months. My jean size went from 44 to 38 as well.

The last few weeks I've gotten off track because I was discouraged about plateauing so I've packed a few of the pounds back (about 5 or 6)

Now that I have a reasonable level of endurance - I can run for 45 minutes straight, and I can run 3 miles in just under 28 minutes....I'm going to get into Insanity.

I will keep updating here in the thread. This is going to be hell but I'm ready for it.

The first week will send your body into a wt* are you doing to me shock, but in a good way. Night two, three, and four were the toughest for me by far, although some people have talked about that lasting the entire first week. The workouts will destroy you and you will last longer each and every time you do it again the next week. Their will be MAJOR soreness in your muscles on the first couple days and nights, but I found actually completing the set routine that day loosened up everything and helped a lot. Good luck and good job for your past efforts already.

Week 1, Day 1

Fit Test Results:

Switch Kicks - 97

Powerjacks - 33

Powerknees - 45

Powerjumps - 23

Globe jumps - 5

Suicide Jumps - 6

Pushup Jacks - 15

Planks/Obliques - 35

My shoulders are in pain, not a good/sore pain but painful. From the planks I'm assuming - that's a lot of pressure to keep on your shoulders.

Other than that, I felt pretty decent, the suicide jumps killed me the most.

One thing with me on this program.

since I was a wrestler for about the first 21 years of my life, I've always been obsessed with the scale. I am used to being able to eat nothing but lettuce, workout for 5 hours a day and drop 19 pounds in a week (I've done it before).

So I'm throwing the scale out the window for the Insanity program. It will only serve to discourage me...it does NOT encourage me at all. always disappoints me that I didn't try harder.

i wear a 38 pair of jeans right now, and a XXL shirt.

My goal is basically by week 4 to fit into a size 36 and an XL

and by the end of this, fit into a size 34 and a L shirt.

I've also got before photos and I'll take after photos and I'll use that as my measuring stick, that's it and that's all. I'm naturally built very large - I've always had big biceps and broad shoulders but the love handles, man ####, and lower belly have GOT to go. Insanity time baby

I recently ran a 5k after not running at all the past 3 years. Posted a time of 25:00 which was slow for me (when I ran regularly I posted a 20:00 5K), but the course was hilly (only 3 sub 20 times out of 300 runners) and I think just being able to run a 5k is pretty good for never running. Anyway, I came down with some kind of sinus infection the day of the race and was out of commission most of the next week. Did my 1st Insanity workout today and it kicked my ***. Amazing how fast the body adjusts to not working out. I'd like to do the full P90X workout but don't want to lose my Insanity cardio. Maybe I will in the early Spring. After Insanity, the 2 P90X days are a very much welcome break so I'm glad I did Insanity first.

I just created a hybrid P90X/Insanity schedule for myself yesterday and I treat the two upper body P90X workouts as an off day for my legs. I think everyone doing Insanity, P90X, a hybrid, or their own workout routine should be doing AB Ripper X from P90X two to three times a week. It is the best core workout I have ever done in only 15 minutes and I could see it staying in everyone's rotation of workouts forever.

Good thinking. I checked the scale every one or two weeks and told me what I already knew. I could just look at my body and see the changes that were going on. The physical results and how you feel should be your rewards besides a number.

I agree and was just thinking about substituting AB Ripper X for Cardio Abs on Friday, and adding it to one of the other Insanity days.

Christ on a cracker.

I was dead after the "warmup",

After a few cycles of the regular exercises I literally got diarhea and had to run to the crapper. I'm not joking, must have been all the jumping around.

So I missed 2 cycles during that and came back for the floor stuff.

really really really intense. I assume every body had to take a lot of rests during their first day? I hope anyway

You'll need to take rest stops in every single video for the entire 9 weeks. It's part of the program as the idea is to push yourself to exhaustion, rest for a bit and get back into pushing yourself to exhaustion again. Don't let that discourage you at all.

Take rest when needed and don't eat anything or drink too much water for one hour beforehand.

I just ate a Met RX protein bar an hour before hand. Not sure what happened with getting the green apple splatters midway through the workout. This battle will be won in the kitchen for sure...I notice there is no real off or cheat day so things are going to be interesting for me. I love cottage cheese so that'll help get me through a few meals per day. I love vegetables but I'm not a big fan of sweet stuff like fruit so I'm pretty much relegated to cantaloupe and certain berries.

:lmao: Honestly laughing WITH you on this one man. Don't let it get you down (like others already said). You'll be surprised at how quick your body will adjust. It's never going to be 'easy', but it'll become more tolerable as the days/weeks go on. When you hit month 2 and the Max workouts, you'll look back at month 1 and wish you could go back... :goodposting:

Wow -

Done with Day 3 - felt MUCH better with the cardio resistance training. the one time I had to take a long break I felt like i was going to pass out, but instead of missing the entire cycle like i did yesterday, i paused the tape and gave myself an extra 2 minutes.

I am very sore - sore in places I would never be sore with just a lifting regimen.

I have to say this, what makes the videos work most is absolutely Shaun T. Dude is a master motivator. I heard that he might be a little corny. i don't take it as corny in the least. Guy is awesome to train with (albeit virtual) - he def says the right things to keep you pushing through everything.

Diet has been perfect so far, I already feel better - this is going to be an awesome and very difficult 9 weeks.

One other observation.

I'm done every workout exercise on the planet. I was a wrestler, I've lifted weights, I ran cross country, I've done super slow, I've done aerobics...all of it.

No work out yet has made me feel like I am actually cutting and sculpting the way that insanity does with some of these exercise. I feel the intensity 50 times greater than any other workout has provided.

Just finished Day 5. Pure cardio.

Diet has been perfect. Typically been grilling off chicken, boiling some brown rice and broccoli and then reserving half of it for one of my 5 meals the next day and eating the other half for dinner. Other than that, I drink 1 Shakeology with a banana, cottage cheese and carrots and some plain almonds, half a turkey sandwich with a small salad (let, tom and greens).

When I switch it up, I'll do a lean steak once per week and some marinated sushi grade tuna instead of the chicken. I have not been hungry at all. Eating 300-400 cals per meal for a total of 1500-2000 per day and really have no terrible hunger whatsoever. The fact that I eat every 2.5 hours helps this, there's always another meal right around the corner.

I guess my only slip up is I had 2 glasses of red wine last night at the bar. And wine with dinner with one of the girls I'm seeing Wednesday night. Not sure if I can give up alcohol altogether for 60 days but I'm trying to keep it to red wine or just a small amount of straight whiskey.

not sure of any results yet, but I love the way I feel. Working out just makes me feel good and kicks any depression I may have. No matter what I look like, it builds a lot of confidence and the success with the ladies this week has been high (I go out a lot).

Good job, don't worry about the small "cheats" that you have going through the process. I don't even consider them cheats, their more of rewards and you probably stayed within your calorie zone for the day anyway. I also find that the small meals every 2.5-3 hours keeps me from being hungry.I'm not sure if you like tuna fish, but I found it was an easy meal to make. One slice whole grain bread toasted. Mix solid white tuna in water in a bowl with a good amount of lemon juice. Put it all inside the sandwich with a a big hand full of spinach on top of it. Add some baby carrots or broccoli on the side and you have a quick and easy good meal. Just throwing it out their in case your looking for variety in meals.

Yeah, plyometric cardio circuit...forget about it.

I always have to take the entire 3rd set off so far (the one with the basketball drills and suicide pushups and whatnot).

Last time I got diarhea during it, this time I almost vomited

:thumbup:That means it's working, if you didn't feel like that it wouldn't be effective. :)

Some people don't like pausing the videos and would go straight through exercises barely doing some of them. I opted to pause the video when I needed it for 15 to 30 seconds, mostly after doing exercises involving jumping since they destroy me. I did this especially at the beginning of month one and month two because I felt I would of wasted much of workout saying hello to my carpet.

I'm in my recovery week of my hybrid schedule. My first time through Insanity I felt real flat after the recovery week. So, I planned today to be pure cardio, followed by core cardio and then a rest day to finish the week. I had my best workout ever and did 55 or more of the 60 seconds in each move of all the sets. Usually my legs are dead by the end of the routine, which did not change, but this time every part of my core was just destroyed because I was focusing on getting the best form possible.

So I backtracked on what I said earlier and did decide to weigh myself weekly even though it'll drive me nuts.

I dropped 10 pounds in week 1. A lot was water weight, I'm sure but I did not cheat on my diet other than the booze Friday night. I'm definitely done with XXL shirts though, and my 38 waist jeans are starting to need a tighter belt.

I love Cardio Power and Resistance, my favorite workout by far...love the pushups and the resistance stuff.

Thanks to madshot and Manback (my old COD paying buddies) for the constant encouragement and feedback. I guess maybe we all played too much COD last year, and now we're all trying to lose all that weight? lol

I've had the video for these for a while, but due to traveling frequently never started it.

Now that I'm home for the foreseeable future I think I'll give it a shot.

I've had trouble sticking with things like this the last few years, hopefully this will work for me. Gotta do something; I'm easily 40-50lbs heavier than I was in college and I'm only 33.

I'm 5'8" at 225; I do carry a lot of muscle, so I'm not a flabby 225 if ya know what I mean; but definitely soft in the middle and should be much much leaner. Been dieting with limited success but haven't been able to workout now for 6 weeks after running all summer. I friggin' hate dieting.
