INSANITY (1 Viewer)

Kept trying to set a start date to getting back into shape...i'm not huge or way overweight, it's just that my pants are all starting

to get a little snug.

5' 9"

182 lbs

I acquired "Insanity" a few weeks ago, so I set June 1st as my start date...gave me an excuse to pig out and drink beer

all weekend.

I did the "fit test" this morning.....

Not as bad as what I was expecting, but it did kick my ### towards the end.

Looking forward to losing some love handles and toning up a bit....keep up the positive result posts, it's encouraging.

Just finished fit test #1. A few random thoughts...

*Holy crap do they rush you into it or what? The warm-up should be at least 2x as long, IMO.

*I sure am glad I didn't come into this completely out of shape. How anyone is doing this as their first stint of getting into shape is beyond me.

*My flexibility (or lack of) was totally exposed there. The low plank oblique killed my hips.

*The speed at which Sean T does everything is so much faster paced vs. P90x. It was a little bit of a culture shock for me after finishing up P90x last week.
Yeah, the warm up for the Fit Test is not the best. When I do the next one, I'll probably rewind and do the warm up twice. The warm ups for the rest of it are much better. After 6 weeks, my flexibility is better, but I've never been particularly flexible. It won't impair your ability to do the workouts. You will come to know and love/hate the hip flexor stretch! As for the pace -- this is cardio. Work as hard as you can as long as you can, take a few second break to recover, and start up again. By the time you get to Recovery Week, you'll be killing the workouts instead of them killing you.
I totally agree. I'll either double up the Fit Test warm-up going forward or do something on my own before pressing play.My hips have always been a problem area for me. I'd love to open up my hips more to get a better range of motion.

Looking forward to the first workout this afternoon.
This will be a good workout for you. He does a lot of stretching of the hips. You'll also figure out that when he does not do the quads during the stretch, take 10 seconds to do them yourself.

Was way out of the loop for past 5 days. Brought along videos on laptop but had no room to do workouts where I was staying. Did Insane Abs one morning, that was it.

Good news: felt pretty good in a swimsuit all weekend. Mrs. JTG looked pretty good too

Bad news: Probably going to back track and restart with the 2nd Fit Test week. See how quickly I can get my cardio back up and maybe jump into month two (We were half was through Recovery Week when the trip hit).

Week #7 in the books (actually week #8 but I repeated week #3 since I missed 2 workouts). Missed the max cardio/abs workout (scheduled for me on Sunday) due to cookout preparation. So, on Monday instead of core cardio balance we did the max cardio and I'm just going to skip core cardio balance. I don't feel bad about it because I've been doing a ton of physical work with all the planting, shoveling, gardening I was into all weekend. For the max cardio workout, 47 minutes and avg heart rate 163, peak 178 (can't seem to get into the 180s). Burned 1,150 calories. For the 5 workouts throughout the week I burned 5,500 calories. I've increased my calorie intake to about 2,000/day (on weekends a few more) by adding a breakfast and cut back on a morning fruit. Really wishing I had taken before pix because the love handles are but a small version of their former selves, and I clearly have about a 4 pack. Still need to completely get rid of the handles before the 6 will come in.

Very very pleased with the results but I'll be super happy when it's over. I do most of the workouts in the evening, and I'm pretty wasted for the rest of the night. I generally fall asleep around 10 or so from exhaustion. I do wake up feeling good though. I need to settle on a post-Insanity schedule now. Good luck to everyone and keep with it!

What schedule are you following that you're still doing Core & Cardio Balance in week 7?

Week #6 day #6. There is an asterisk in the box saying if you have the deluxe edition you can replace core cardio & balance with max interval sports training. I don't have that dvd.

Ah, okay. I'm following the plan on the Excel spreadsheet. That doesn't mention Core & Cardio Balance beyond the Recovery Week.It just has Max Interval Sports Training listed for those days.

Is Max Interval Sports Training similar?

Day 2 in the books. That warm-up was awesome! I am shocked that they really dropped the ball on the Fit Test warm-up after seeing how they warmed you up for day 2. I think I just found my pre-run warm-up going forward. :lmao:

Random thoughts...

*I would've never guessed that an imaginary basketball would weigh as much as it did during the 3rd set of shooting the bball (or whatever its called).

*Justin Fargas sure didn't waste any time finding work after getting cut from the Raiders, eh?

*Tonya - holy crap honey you are friggin' hot.

*That chick in the blue sports bra is pretty hard core.

If the rest of the program is anything like day 1, I know for a fact that this will put my into the best shape of my life. I can't wait to see the results.

Plyometric Cardio Circuit is IMO the hardest of the first month. The first time you do Pure Cardio it's hard, then it gets easier every time you do it. Power and Resistance was the easiest for me but I have more muscle strength than cardio strength. I've only done the first workout of month 2, but that one made all the workouts from Month 1 look like a warmup.

I dig the brunette with the ponytail and short red shorts. Really miss her in month 2.

:hifive:Even remotely sticking with this is going to whip anyone into shape in no time. I thought I was sweating a ton when I did P90x. Yesterday was the first time I ever considered taking off my shirt during a workout. I didn't want to waste the energy so I left it on. :lmao:

I kept meaning to ask... Aside from the Fit Test, the videos I acquired aren't allowing me to turn off the crappy music. Is there a way to fix this without trying to find another set of videos?

Don't think so. I don't even notice it anymore.Really can't wait until this is over. I love it but after 8 weeks of this my legs are begging for a break. I think I'll probably take a couple of weeks off - except for 3-4 runs per week - and then start up some sort of Insanity/P90X hybrid.Probably not the hybrid that's been passed around here but something similar.

I'm here to confess...me and the gf are taking this full week off. After the 35 min. fit test #4 + 59 min workout video back to back this past weekend we were both just over this for a while. Just got to be too much and our bodies need to recover a bit.As mentioned earlier, we're both a little frustrated at this point that after 7 weeks of doing this religiously we haven't seen DRAMATIC results. Of course it's not hurting us in any way, but we personally aren't seeing the results that match the effort needed to keep up with this 6 days a week for 1-2 hours per day. We're going to stop INSANITY for this week and just do our regular elliptical + pushup routines to just rejuvenate our bodies. And then finish out the final 2 weeks of INSANITY, just basically to say that we completed it and didn't quit.

Don't want to be a downer here, because it definitely is a good workout and everyone just starting should stick with it cuz your body could see great results. Just saying it hasn't been happening for us personally (note: both of us were in pretty good shape to begin with so I'd imagine those coming into this pretty raw to fitness would see great results)

I've seen amazing results and I'm only on week 1 of month 2.

So I didn't acquire a bad set of videos? They don't give an option to turn off the music at the beginning? :goodposting:

I'm also having trouble getting up for the last two weeks. While I'm not frustrated from lack of results, my body feels really beat up and tired. I'm ok during the day, but from evening on (particularly after Insanity) I just have no energy. I've also found that during the workouts my legs are feeling really heavy. I'll probably slog through the last two weeks then definately a week or so off before I begin a maintenance program of 4 days/week Insanity. I think a rest day between each Insanity day would be ideal.

hell I'm only on day 9 and I could hardly give it to the wife last night I was so whipped. I gave a half assed effort anyways to get it done. I think the lifting weights at lunch and this at night is catching up on me.

Cardio Power/Resistance was definitely easier than Plyo Cardio Circuit, but I was still pretty wiped. P90x has me hooked on pull-ups, so I felt like I had enough left in the tank at the end to add a set of wide grip, close grip, and reverse grip pull-ups. Ooops, that was a mistake. I got pretty nauseous and had to do some deep breathing in the bathroom.

2hrs later and I can already feel some pain in my left hip flexor. God I hate my hips :goodposting:

I was coming to post these same things. I am right with you guys with 2 weeks left but it is physically exhausting. I have lost maybe 5 lbs but have lost 1 1/2 inches on the waist. My wife tells me that I have lost "sections" off my waist. I do feel better but the longer workouts are just too much for me. I do like the max sports video.I started this without having worked out in years. The first fit test, I thought I was going going to die after wards. Couldn't move and was sweating profusely and was extremely dizzy for about 45 minutes after. Thought I was going to puke and #### at the same time. Fun times. It does get better though.

You will sweat a ton. I could wring out my shirts and it always looked like I just came in from a rainstorm. After not working out for years and doing this, I think I reactivated some sweat glands that had gone into retirement. I went golfing last week and was literally dripping with sweat by the 3rd hole. All my friends were WTF?

I am also going to keep them up but more like 3-5 per week rather than the full 6 days. Would like to get in some pull ups too.

My wife is just starting it. She has been working out and running for a few years and just did the first fit test and was pretty tired after wards. We'll see if she has the same results.

from tues-friday the only time my legs felt good was when I was actually doing insanity. dunno come saturday they felt pretty good, then the day off and then no soreness this week. (or at least not the kind that is terrible)

I'm definitely with you on this. After 3 days of doing my old elliptical routine I'm sweating so much more than I ever did before INSANITY. Back of my shirt is always soaking wet. Guess it's a good thing.

Why would this be? I'm sweating like a ##### too.

I'm definitely with you on this. After 3 days of doing my old elliptical routine I'm sweating so much more than I ever did before INSANITY. Back of my shirt is always soaking wet. Guess it's a good thing.
Why would this be? I'm sweating like a ##### too.
I'm willing to bet its a hydration issue. You're probably just being more conscious of your hydration since starting Insanity. I've always been a heavy sweater. The golf thing always kills me. I will look like I pissed my pants on 90+ degree days. I hate it, but what can you do?

totally blew my diet last night at our fantasy football ##### session. Nothing like a 12 pack of sam adams light and a bunch of taco bell at 2 in the morning to rack up major calories. :lmao:

Well I had no idea what Cardio Recovery was until now. I was expecting some sort of lighter cardio workout, but not that. I'll take the light day, though. TYVM

I can absolutely feel the difference in my hips after that stretch/yoga combo. :lmao:

Very relieved to see Recovery, even though it was still pretty tough. Those pushups were unreal, I couldn't keep up for my life.

Really can't wait until this is over. I love it but after 8 weeks of this my legs are begging for a break. I think I'll probably take a couple of weeks off - except for 3-4 runs per week - and then start up some sort of Insanity/P90X hybrid.

Just saying it hasn't been happening for us personally (note: both of us were in pretty good shape to begin with so I'd imagine those coming into this pretty raw to fitness would see great results)
i thought you guys were actually making nice progress. didnt both of you lose over an inch on the waist (close to 2 inches for one of you)? perhaps the overall weight isnt going down, but i'm sure your fitness has improved ?

I've had great results. The weight has fluctuated throughout but I'm down about 10 pounds to date and though I haven't taken any measurements since week 2 I know I've had big gains there as well. And my flexibility and fitness level have both improved by a fairly wide margin.I'm just ready for the end so I can take a break.

I'd echo all of the above, particularly the part about being ready for a break. Following the warmup, my legs usually feel pretty dead the rest of the workout. But I still dig deep! Although my wife has taken to making fun of all of Sean T's grammatical errors. She's beginning to get on my nerves.

I've seen a bunch of talk lately about using chocolate milk as a recovery drink for Insanity. Anyone doing this? I generally just drink water throughout and after.

Did my first fit test last night, looking forward to seeing how much my numbers improve. Don't think I'll be able to do this 6 days a week with my schedule, but 5 is attainable

I have been drinking a chocolate protein drink afterwards (mixed with water). and just running water the rest of the time. you can get some loaded protein mix at wal mart very cheap compared to the GNC stuff.

I've been using Muscle Milk (choc) and water since I started P90x back in Feb. I love it. Only other thing I drink is my AM coffee and water throughout the day.

I usually drink water throughout. After, I make a smoothie (plain yogurt, frozen strawberries, a little OJ to sweeten, and a scoop of protein powder). If it's one of the recovery workouts or I have less time, I will drink chocolate milk. I've done that once or twice a week through Insanity.

All I've done the whole time is drink water throughout and after. Thought the whole recovery drink was bs to sell their product? Could explain why I'm so dead afterwards.

chocolate milk is a great recovery drink when taken immediately after exercise (within 20 minutes). it has the perfect ratio of protein to carbs for recovery. but after a heavy lifting session, it's better to drink something with more protein, like a whey protein shake or OTS recovery product.

after the first 3 days of using my old cross training shoes and my feet hurting I went out and bought a decent new pair. Huge difference, get some good shoes if you are just starting or if your shoes just suck, its well worth it.
