Insurance Question - Will I end up in jail? (1 Viewer)

I have good insurance (relatively) high deductible thing, company pays 1900/3000 of the whole family deductible through a HSA contribution.  Good coverage, no complaints.  Costs about $95/month for the whole family.

Wife is working full time and they have a ####ty HDHP and they give 1000/3000 costs nothing.

If I drop my wife my monthly cost goes down $70, but deductible doesn't change. Neat.

Anyways, what if I just sort of pretend like my wife doesn't have this second coverage option, and pocket the 1000 from her HSA into her HSA and never use her insurance?

Is this ok? Am I gonna go to federal pound me in the ### prison?

I think this issue is between you and your employer. Unless you are working for the feds then I can assume that your backside is safe from getting out of it

If you have connections like Hillary shouldn't be a problem.

Note:  Federal Pen is nothing.  You could do a nickel standing on your head.

It's hard to tell from your post, but I'm guessing your wife just got this job and is deciding if she should accept her employers coverage or stay on your coverage? If so, and she declines her employer coverage because yours is better, her employer will not contribute to her HSA.

We really need more info.
