Another big thumbsup to the Atomic Web browser!!

I just downloaded a minor update but in the notes it said that they were working on v3.0 which will include a Bookmark Bar for iPad users!!!

The best iPad browser will be complete once that happens.

I also a have gotten into the "full screen" browsing mode with the user-definable mini-navigation-buttons at the bottom of the screen, as well as the multi-touch gestures to go back a page or forward or to top or bottom of page (2finger swipe to left/right/top/bottom respectively). At least that's how I've set those gestures to work but they have tons of options to customize it.

Anyway, just thought I'd pop back in and give another plug for the Atomic Browser.

I've already read it. Very cool of Jobs to keep replying, considering Tate was acting like petulant child the whole time. Seriously, what kind of "journalist" acts that way when he gets a once in a lifetime chance to talk to Steve Jobs one-on-one. Par for the course with Gawker bloggers, I suppose. Glad Jobs pwned him at the end.

Microsoft had (has) every right to enforce whatever rules for their platform that they want. If people don't like it,they can write for another platform.....

This goes back to a comment goon made about Apple getting stabbed in the back and me commenting that they should have learned by now. While I agree with Jobs and Microsoft, the US Government didn't and won't. Again, I'd have thought he would have learned this by now....perhaps he too needs a suit filed against his company.

Seriously, Apple makes computers and gadgets and is being treated as though they are the Third Reich. That has to wear you down after a while.Jobs is one of the very few CEO's that I have ever heard of that not only publishes his personal email but actually often responds to random questions. You have to give him a lot of credit for making himself available to the general public, even if his replies are often one word answers.

In this case, he replied to a guy that emailed with a rant about a commercial (seriously, since when don't we all take advertising with a grain of salt), who turned out to be an employee of Gawker Media, with whom Apple is entangled in a legal battle with. Tate never even properly identify himself as a journalist. After giving enough clues to his identity, Jobs continues the discussion even though Tate has no control over his anger and has thrown numerous profanities out.

So yeah, I agree that Steve shouldn't have stooped so low, but I completely understand how he may have lost himself for a moment.

I agree with you actually. What's most interesting to me is he's apparently learned nothing from the path Bill blazed. He's doing all the same things and suffering the same criticisms that Bill did back in the day. If I were him, I wouldn't be accessible for that very reason. It didn't work for Bill. It's another reason why I'd chill on the hyperbole also. Let the products speak for themselves. Comments like "if you do it the right way (my way)" don't help him either. IMO, he's let the recent success go to his head a bit too much. OK, but this is a direct result of those that obsess about skewering him at every turn. Make no mistake, there is a reason that every single Apple thread turns into a train wreck. There is a subset of the population that is very threatened by Apple and they seek out conflict. Certain people are angered by the fact that Apple has such loyal fans and they do everything in their power to disrupt our enjoyment. I really believe that recent Apple's success is somehow humiliating to them; the little brother that they mocked and kicked throughout the desktop wars grew up bigger and more powerful. And yes, the other side is the Apple fans that have been on the receiving end of so much bullying are finally able to revel in being the big dog. So we punch back at every perceived slight. It's a perpetual motion cycle that can't be stopped.

Neither side is without blame. I don't think the "haters" will admit it, though.

I love it, and don't know what I'd do without it. Last night we met some friends for dinner and drinks, and I left it home for the first time in a week, and felt naked without it. I now use it almost exclusively at home -- haven't taken out the laptop since I got it, and only use the desktop sparingly, for work stuff and some major typing. But for 95% of my computer use -- web, FFA, e-mail, music, movies, etc. -- it's all iPad.I don't think many people who got one regret it.

Don't regret it one bit and after having one for a couple months couldn't imagine life without it. I consider it another appendage.I can't remember the last electronic device with such a high satisfaction rate from those who have used it.The #1 response from those who try it is, "ive gotta get one".

Yup, I think it's about a half pound too heavy. In a few years you'll have something in this form factor that is under a pound, more storage, faster processing, and better battery life. That thing will be perfect...

I'm on board with this. I've never had it die on me yet, but if I forget to charge it overnight and I wake up and it's at 10%, it sucks to have to bring my charger to work. Not the end of the world though. But yeah, wifi speed is fine. I notice that it's not as snappy through all apps as I would like. It wouldn't hurt to double the power (when the chips are inevitably out to do that).

FWIW....and to be clear on the record...I have no issue with their technology and like the direction the company is going. Apple TV has the opportunity to be a true innovation. I do have an issue with their marketing group and the sensationalism they create. I know that's their job, but for some reason it bothers me. I understand that it was necessary to a point, but it's not any more. They can relax....that's the only hope I have for getting rid of the fanboy. Perhaps if they allow the product to speak for itself going forward, that nonsense that gets in the way of genuine discussion will go away.Apple's success has been great as of late. I don't understand why anyone would be threatened by it though. It's been a VERY long time coming and I am glad they have finally arrived. I'd love to see them enter the enterprise arena, but I realize the chances of that are virtually nil given their current model.

I don't believe i have to learn how to two-finger my iPad from Otis. I tried it on another post and the iPad touch screen was pretty smart. It could tell when I used two fingers versus only one. Cool.

I can't think of any CEO in the world who is more admired and revered than Steve Jobs. Apple is currently the most popular consumer products company in the world. I a big goon fan, but playing the "Jobs is a victim" and "Apple is treated like Nazis" cards is beyond ridiculous.

Between the iPhone prototype debacle, the revised developer terms and the completely overplayed yet misunderstood "open" vs. "closed" discussion, Apple is now considered the opponent of freedom. What is annoying? Having to use the down-arrow to expand the reply window when a post has too many quotes like this one. Then you push the Add Reply button, you get an error message saying too many quoted blocks and you have to use the down-arrow again to remove the extra quote. HOW DO YOU SCROLL INSIDE THE REPLY WINDOW????

What do you mean two fingers?

If you touch inside the box, and they keyboard comes up, so you now are editing the text. Do a two finger swipe down or up inside the window with the text. It will scroll inside the text window.

I don't believe i have to learn how to two-finger my iPad from Otis. I tried it on another post and the iPad touch screen was pretty smart. It could tell when I used two fingers versus only one. Cool.

It can tell three fingers too. Certain apps (like atomic web browser) allow you to triple-tap to do things (in that app, it goes from fullscreen mode to the mode with bars at the top ... Super handy).

I agree Jobs stooped too low with the final comment, but I can understand his frustration. He is consistently being vilified in the press, often completely inaccurately. Seriously, Apple makes computers and gadgets and is being treated as though they are the Third Reich. That has to wear you down after a while.

Jobs is one of the very few CEO's that I have ever heard of that not only publishes his personal email but actually often responds to random questions. You have to give him a lot of credit for making himself available to the general public, even if his replies are often one word answers.

In this case, he replied to a guy that emailed with a rant about a commercial (seriously, since when don't we all take advertising with a grain of salt), who turned out to be an employee of Gawker Media, with whom Apple is entangled in a legal battle with. Tate never even properly identify himself as a journalist. After giving enough clues to his identity, Jobs continues the discussion even though Tate has no control over his anger and has thrown numerous profanities out.

So yeah, I agree that Steve shouldn't have stooped so low, but I completely understand how he may have lost himself for a moment.

I can't think of any CEO in the world who is more admired and revered than Steve Jobs. Apple is currently the most popular consumer products company in the world. I a big goon fan, but playing the "Jobs is a victim" and "Apple is treated like Nazis" cards is beyond ridiculous.

Just like politics, it's all about who controls the news cycle, and for the last year it has been Apple's opponents that have been successfully pulling the media strings. Sure, Apple has made mistakes, I don't give them a free pass. But the rhetoric from the mainstream press has been as equally vehement as anything coming from the blogosphere. Between the iPhone prototype debacle, the revised developer terms and the completely overplayed yet misunderstood "open" vs. "closed" discussion, Apple is now considered the opponent of freedom. And the press is having a field day with it all. Everyone from Fox News to The Daily Show is obsessed with knocking Apple off of their perch. They are the goons in black kicking down the doors of free speech. They are the walled-off dictatorial state. They are the stewards of censorship. The only thing America loves more than an underdog victory is destroying a favorite.

Some great tips in there. Thanks for that. My 2 favorites from just the first page of that thread:- swiping up on the comma/exclamation on the keyboard gives you an apostrophe (i guess it's like pushing the comma up)

- Click and hold on the .com key brings up a mini-menu with .org .edu .net etc.

Downloaded the DisplayOut app tonight (jailbreak only). Outputs whatever is on screen to another video source. Works great. Coupled with Airvideo and I wirelessly streamed movies to play via ipad over the home theater system.

Not sure "misunderstood" is the right word. I was going for "misused", as in "open" no longer means what it used to mean. It has become a marketing platitude, a buzzword thrown about to cast Google as Knight in Shining Armor coming to save us all from the tyranny of Apple.
