iPad (2 Viewers)

I'm sure this has been discussed but are there cases out there that also protect the screen with Gorilla Glass or something like the Otter box?

The otter box is sold out on their website.

My son just won a 16GB ipad2 at school for being such a swell kid. Didn't think I was gonna get into these this soon.

Do you have to buy a data plan?

Recommendations for kid about to graduate high school and start college?

No data plan needed unless its 3G, which it does not sound like it is. Load up on books, check out iTunes for iTunes U since he is going to college. Check out some podcasts that teach another language. And, of course, get some games... iPad specific games though.

And if it does have 3G, you are not tied to a contractual data plan. You can setup the plan a month at a time, on and off as you please. You just need to make sure you tell them to turn it off before they re-up you for another month.HTH

Ok it's that time of year again when we I debate on a purchase...

Question -

If we have 1 pad - is there a way to separate itunes to have ipad only stuff. Like we don't want to be syncing my wifes ipod songs.

2 ipads - how easy is it to separate itunes accounts so only my stuff shows up when I plug it in.

Do you just do most of the stuff on the Ipad to sync?

:bag:
You can have multiple devices on one computer sharing one iTunes account, and having a different set of applications, and media on each device. I have 1 iPad, 1 iPhone, and 3 iTouches on one account. The three iTouches are for my kids (2B + 1G) so they have differing choices of apps and media. Having everything on one account allows you to share applications (if you want) without having to pay for them multiple times. :2cents:
do you have to do anything special to sync from 1 device to a different device, so you don't get the wrong stuff
You sync from your computer with iTunes to each of your devices -- not from device to device. You can set what you sync for each individual device in iTunes.

So can you edit ms word documents? Whats the app for that?
Pages
Excel also?If i make edits, save, and email to myself, will i then be able to edit again on pc?

So i can make my own cheatsheet and strike through player names and enter my team on the ipad at my drafts?
I found it to be a pita to rightclick on a player and mark them off using excell on my laptop. the ipad looks like the perfect thing for drafting. I'm actually going to create a simple cheatsheet app for the ipad so I can mark them off easy, use it for practice mocs, etc.

Ok - I haven't dealt with itunes alot, usually after my wife and son messed something up and then they get mad at me when I say I'm not sure  They obviously set something up wrong because they are constantly complaining about getting each others stuff.I'm guessing with the IPAD you don't connect it too often to a PC anyway right? Just download direct to the IPAD

On the device go to Settings > Store and you can turn off automatic downloads.

How?Im really noticing a lot of glare now when i try to watch things on here during the day. Its perfect for viewing at night in the dark, but the glare is quite distracting during the day at times.

I cannot figure out how to delete or insert individual cells in a table in Pages. The formatting is a mess when going from iPad to word also. Any tips?

So what will happen if I plug my ipad into a second computer with my itunes account on it? Will I lose any information or apps?
You might get a message to the effect of "Your device can only be synced to one account and that syncing to this account will erase your data". Then you'll be prompted to confirm that you want to overwrite it. So iTunes doesn't just erase your #### if you hook it up to a different machine... it takes a few clicks to do that.Nevermind, I misread that you have the same iTunes account on both machines. If that's the case, both machines should have the same information and apps, no? At any rate, you can disable auto sync on the second machine and it should leave your iPad alone when it's connected.

I caved and picked up a 32GB wifi today, already own an iPad 2 (anyone looking to buy? :D )

Passed on Apple Care $99 +50 deductible did not seem worth it, got a case instead (the snugg people were talking about here). Looks like the otterbox is not available yet.

Anyone else burnt out on their iPad? After 6 months with the iPad2 I am about done with it...
Nope. I honestly can never see being with out some sort of tablet going forward until some new technology comes that provides a better Internet portal.
I still really like the form factor of the tablet, but this just feels too limited. Not being able to use websites on flash or whose script the browsers can't handle gets really frustrating. I don't think this software is ready for being a stand-alone device.

How do I FaceTime my iPad from my iPhone? Also when I text my friend who has both iPad and iPhone from either my iPad or iPhone, which device of his will it go to?

Just download iSwifter. It allows you to view flash based web sites. It takes less than 5 seconds to switch between Safari and iSwifter if you run into a vid you can't see.

Tried just about everything to fix the disconnect from wifi randomly issue.

Sucks when I'm watching a movie on Netflix or streaming ESPN, have to back out - switch on and off airplane mode and boot it back up, but oh well.

FYI - have the same issue with my iphone.

I've tried the tips laid out in this thread and nothing has worked. Looks like it's a known issue that Apple hasn't fixed based on what I've seen on message boards.

Anyone else experience repeated Safari crashing on their iPad3, or is mine just garbage? I've followed all of the suggested tips like disabling cloud, clearing settings, shutting down open apps, but nothing seems to remedy the problem. I wish I could just blow on it like an old NES cartridge to fix the issue.

Never. And I'm use my iPad a good 3 hours a day.

Looking into a case. No idea what to look for. I guess just something basic, right? Mostly used for entertainment.

Any case that has a cover and back cover is ideal. Forget the "smart cover" or back case slips.
Apple just announced a new Smart Case that also covers the back.
Yeah, for $50. No thanks. You can get decent cases for cheaper than that. I actually bought one for $30 and enjoy it much better than any smart case. To each their own.

Which case do you have?

My soon to be 11 year old has an iPad2 on his birthday list and after convincing the grandparents to give him cash, we are probably getting him one. Part of my (and my wife) gift to him was going to be a good case. He has younger brothers and I have a feeling it will get exposed to bad situations, so I was thinking of something like an Otterbox (not that because of the bad reviews) that I have for my iPhone. I have dropped my iPhone a bunch of times and no harm to it, so hoping for some recommendations on a really protective case that doesn't hamper the use of it. Definitely would like it to have some sort of stand as well.

So planned on getting the regular case but went with a keyboard one instead. Thinking was that our regular PC at home is not enough. Seems like someone always needs to do homework while someone else is playing games. So figured I'd make the Ipad a laptop.

Does that work? Just need to do basics that a student would do while doing homework. Wordprocessing, printing, research, etc.

I bought a case off Amazon, original price was $150, but got mine for $50... with a keyboard. Its a Blurex case. Typing takes a little time to get used to but if smaller hands are using it, it may not be so bad. This case is for business and I seldom use it however the keyboard is worth the money anyway. The case I use most of the time is a kid-friendly case that I got for $30 from Toys'r'Us. It works, protects, and is fun. And, if I want, the keyboard works with either.

so, thinking about getting my wife some kind of tablet for her birthday and/or anniversary gift. Is this IPad3 worth the price? Is getting just wi-fi without the 3G/4G really that big a deal if you're constantly near a wi-fi network?? Please give me the pros and cons or a better option if you think its out there. Thanks!

Depends on what she wants to do.I use mine as a Kindle, to play games, facebook, twitter, browse the internet almost more than I use my desktop. I rarely use it for music.I only have the Wi-Fi version and it does the trick just fine for me. I don't have a need for a 3G plan and I travel 2-3 weeks out of every month. I just load it up with things I'm going to need before I leave. It's definitely worth the price IMO.ETA: Netflix/HBOGO/other movie programs as well.I like that I can head to bed and if I'm not tired, fire up a movie on Netflix, etc.

One feature I did just learn about is the sim card for use overseas. Awesome in a place like Tanzania where the power goes out all the time. Picked up an open box 64GB 3G iPad2 for $500 shipped for my MIL.

Just read that it costs less than $2 per year to operate the iPad. Assumes a full charge every other day.

That's pretty amazing, I think.
