iPad (3 Viewers)

For the email issue can't you just set up different accounts? When you open the mail client just set them all up and name them differently. Sure you would be able to see the other persons email but only if you went into them.I'm just confused why it would be like in an iphone/blackberry/droid phone
let me use and example. On my phone (android) - I currently have 4 email accounts. I open the email client and then select the one I want to read the emails (gmail, yahoo, work, comcast). Why can't you just add the wifes email the same way. So when you open up the mail client you then select which one you want to look at. Unless apple is done differently than blackberry/android. But my buddy has 5 emails on his iphone just has the mailboxes listed
Sure. I have 3 different e-mail accounts on my iPhone.
I misread Aaron's post. He was talking about more than email. He was talking settings etc etc like a desktop. The only downside with adding the email account is the wife could read yours easily and vice versa.Anyway - I didn't realize he was looking for more than just email. My bad.

on a laptop or netbook or PC, you can basically set it up so each user can customize their settings and see what they want. they can remain logged in to their email accounts, netflix, message boards, etc. when they log in, all their logins are intact, all their bookmarks are in place, the organization of the desktop is how they want it, etc.

I was just wondering if apple had that type of functionality for ipads since I think a lot of people/families will share them at home. Unlike an iphone.

Adds some privacy, control, and convenience I think.

Apple has not implemented separate user accounts into iOS yet. There are apps that will do this, but you have to jailbreak. I think it will be something Apple adds eventually, though.

any rumors that will be a part of the next major iOS upgrade which I assume is coming along with the new iPad.

Agreed it's something that should be added. Makes sense. Especially for something like an iPad that sits on the coffee table or nightstand and can be picked up by anyone in the house.

First time I heard this rumor. Would be pretty cool, if true.

Guardian Reports Apple to Unveil New Textured iPad 3 ScreenPosted by AndrewMarch 6, 2012Rumours uncovered by the Guardian suggest that the new iPad 3/HD could be coming with new screen tech which will look to mimic a textured surface. The reports suggests this could be why Apple used the word “Touch” in their invites, the invites cryptically said: “We have something you really have to see. And touch.”The Guardian’s hypothesis is that Apple will unveil something no-one has really considered; a textured feel to the new HD screen. The Guardian’s hunch is that the emphasis on the word touch refers to some new technology from a Finnish startup Sensag which has developed a system called E-Sense that cleverly gives texture to a touchscreen via electronic fields.By using a new technique called “tixels” generated by electric fields from elements embedded around the screen, it can make areas of the screen feel rough, ridged or rounded – and change just as the screen pixels can change.”The report is so left-field it might actually be a true, a screen with incredible pixel density and new world-first texture technologies could be the killer feature that will win over skeptics who were probably just expecting a better screen resolution. It’s not long until we find out what Apple has planned as the unveiling kicks-off at 6pm UK time tomorrow in San Francisco.

Technology will never cease to amaze me.

I'm holding out til they work in taste

My flight leaves Philly for Ft Myers at 10, so I'm counting on you guys to have all the pertinent facts posted here by the time I land. :coffee:

Check out macrumors.com for any updates. They normally do a play by play as new information comes out.

If iPad 2's drop to $299, I plan on getting one today. With a cover and such that is a $350 investment so that is plenty.

When will iPads come out in different colors? A blue, green, red instead of this black/white only. Let's get on this Jobs.

There is no plan of an ios update that I am aware of.

iOS 5.1 will be released March 9, it's an incremental update with a few minor new features. Expect iOS 6 in the fall alongside a new iPhone.

I know its an ipad & probably apple tv event but I'm waiting to upgrade my macbook and would love a new pro or air announcement.

Serious question - do you think Apple will reach a point where they stop releasing every year and spread things out.

So the iphone still releases every year... do they not reach a point where it benefits them to push it to say every 18 months?

Stock will take a hit if/when that happens. Its more about managing expectations, and the public and investors have come to expect new releases every year - even if they are relatively minor upgrades.

If sales ever start to level out then maybe it might happen. But right now they set new sales records every time they release a new product. Since we know they don't hate money, what benefit would they gain from slowing down the release cycle?

Now probably none... Just surprised their isn't a bigger "backlash" of "I just got my phone and a new one is already coming out" type of stuff...

The gap between the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S was 16 months (June 2010 to Oct 2011). I do agree that it is about expectations as much as anything. Remember also that new Android phones are released on a seemingly weekly basis. Tough to expect Apple to not upgrade their lineup when their direct competitors are pushing the 'latest and greatest' so often. That said, it doesn't seem to affect sales, as the iPhone 4 sold very well right up to the release of the 4S.

I think only a very small percentage of people would put themselves in the pattern of buying a new phone on every new model released.I think I'm the more average consumer. I started a 3 year contract with Bell Canada in December of 2009 and when the iPhone 5 rolls around this fall I'm looking forward to my new phone. I don't really feel like a missed much of anything with the iphone 4 or 4S

Gotcha. I was just wondering if we are getting close to say TV/Desktops. Where we hit a pseudo "ceiling" if you will.

:goodposting: this.......me too. I've been holding off upgrading my laptop for a while now hoping for an announcement.
Pardon me for not doing a search to see if it's a Honda, but this site is a pretty good guide on setting expectations for new releases.
:nerd: I'm very much aware of macrumors & know the window is April/June but I'm hoping its a little early . Does it make me a ham & egger that I want it now? I don't think so. I'm just a guy wanting to upgrade and waiting for the word.

oof 3 years.

PREDICTIONS:

1) The features will be much of what's been announced already (retina, maybe 4G, faster processor)

2) IT will lack one of the rumoured features, so instantly the contrarians/fandroids will throw out DISAPPOINTMENT!

3) It will sell more units in the first 2 weeks than the next leading android tablet not named kindle sold in all of 2011.

All I care about really is the display and processor. Would I like HDMI or multiple users? Yes, please. But I know that they have a less than 1% chance.

No keyboard dock?! OUTRAGEOUS!

That would be nice, but the more I think about it, I wonder how often it would actually be used.

Yep. The Haptic Feedbackrumors are interesting but not sure they go down that road. 1080p playback is nice. The added RAM rumor will accommodate that.

"Chris- I think we may be. We're just catching wind at HQ that some people are finding 4G iPads in Apple’s inventory system!"

-Stephanie Haberman on Mashable's blogs

http://mashable.com/2012/03/07/apple-ipad-event-live-blog/Agreed, streaming would be the best play but then people would accuse them of being even bigger attention whores (and likely the tech blogs wouldn't love them as much).
They used to try and live stream the MacWorld keynotes back in the early/mid 2000's and it was always a fustecluck. Surely video compression and bandwidth have advanced since then but they probably realized the bloggers do the work for them now.
