iPad (1 Viewer)

Is apple ever going to wow again? Another ho humm release thats as expected and lower than hoped. Im sure sales, which is all that really matters, soar once again though.
How is this not a 'wow'? It delivered on every single request people were making.
Well for starters, it's bigger than a sheet of paper, doesn't have an 8core processor, doesn't have 1TB Flash memory, and there's no 128MP Camera. Plus it doesn't read your mind and STILL won't support mobile flash. Duh!
How about at least the features that were "no brainers" according to some, like SIRI?
Siri for ipad 3/HD ?
I'd think this is a no brainer, yeah. Can't think of any reason why not.

isn't Siri something that could be added to it in the future? seems weird they left that out to me too although I don't think it's a big deal either.

Not quite. I'm still buying it, but lets at least be honest. Realistic or not, there were several rumors out there that didn't come to fruition. Part of that is Apple being a victim of their own success. But part of that is due to the hype they and their fanboys create.
Apple doesn't wow at launch. Go back and see what they said about the iPod at launch. Go back and see what they said about the iPhone at launch. Go back and see what they said about the iPad at launch. In every case, the press and the experts said: Meh. It was the consumer buying it, that signaled: WOW!
No one is arguing that the iPad won't sell - I'm buying one.

Exactly. The media are so far up apple's ### that there's no way they can surprise anymore. Now releases are led with tons of leaks and a dose of crazy speculation on what the products will feature. The realistic stuff is almost always there. THe crazy stuff very rarely is. Much like phones, we're in a period of iterative improvements. There was the leap to full touchscreen made popular by Apple, then there was the app ecosystem approach... now we're in a holding patter with iterative improvements in resolution, power, etc. The next major headway in portable tech is going to be the maturity of voice recognition/AI and, more importantly, the Near Field interactivity adoption level that leads to the cell phone as your wallet. Google has it with Wallet but they simply don't have the know how or the power to bring it to the forefront in the way that Apple can. Apple's iPhone 5 will take the NF tech, make it ready for prime time and roll it out in a manner that will have the adoption rate shooting through the roof.

It's not a deal breaker for me, just something I thought I'd get to play with so I'd be proficient when I got the iPhone5 this fall. Since it was a "no-brainer" before the announcement, I think it's disingenuous to act like it's exclusion isn't Apple delivering "everything".

I think it's odd but only because it seemed like a product that Apple really wants to hype up. So it seems bizarre that they seem to have put it on the back burner for now.Personally I have no desire for that kind of tech until it gets a whole lot more fluid.

When should we expect e-tailers like Amazon or MacMall to receive some Ipad3 stock? I want one ASAP, but I don't want to pay sales tax if I don't have to.

I am surprised siri was not included. That's a downside. You mention plural above. What other absent "Features" were no brainers, Gunz? I honestly didnt' expect the device to deliver on everything that it did (camera, processor, 4G, retina display, battery). If anything I'd consider this to be at the very least on par with reasonable expectation... if not slightly exceeding my expectations overall. To me, the loss of one of those above would have been a much bigger loss than not including Siri in the first pass.

My guess for the reason there is Siri is very battery/data intensive and between the recent rollout of the 4s (which had apple's servers barely able to keep up with the number of siir queries as it is)..... coupled with the addition of 4G pushing the limits of the battery tech in tablets already, they picked the lesser of the evils and went with 4G and 9hr battery life, over 4G, Siri, and 7hr battery life. That's just a guess though.

IN a perfect word siri would be nice to have on the new iPad but I hardly think it's a major loss given the overall package.

Plus, the very good speech recognition features of Siri ARE included... which is nice.

I think you and I are on the same technology purchase schedule.

If you follow the proxy hacks of the siri you would understand why they had to roll it out like this. Siri counts on their being a 3G connection for things and Wifi can handle others. Not all ipads have 3G/4G, but they all have wifi so there was a common denominator reached.

If you don't like it then jailbreak it and put full featured on there.

Which rumors did they miss on? The touch screen that changed textures? Or maybe the edge to edge, magnet locking, display expanding, holographic projector features? Please they hit everything a sane person expected. This isn't Star Trek.....yet.
it was a refresh only. Nothing Wow or amazing. They didn't even put a full version of Siri on it.

Would I have liked more cool features, SD slot, or HDMI? Sure. But the display upgrade is significant and better than anything out there now or announced for any time soon.I pretty much hesitated on the iPad2 solely because I felt the screen update was coming next and would be a major thing. And it seems to be.

I am not saying I disagree with the assessment, but that is what everyone said about the iPhone 4s

These were all the "Wow" features everyone complained was missing from the iPad 2. Now you get them all and it's just a refresh? :loco:

Yep.

How long do they usually have the apple store down for when doing these updates. I kind of expected it to be up within an hour of the presentation ending.

Ports?Does it play 720p MKV's?

Just had it ordered and then it said error occurred just prior to the billing page, and now the site is down again. Trying again.

Figure I will wait on a case or any accessories.

Now I can't get past the accessory page. First time I got to say no to engraving and then got the error.

Can't look on my phone but what is the new price of the iPad 2 with the education discount. This is a key for me.
It may be a different deal for an iPad, but when I was looking for a MBP, the education pricing wasn't even in the same neighborhood of a deal that I was able to find on many other sites. Make sure you look around before pulling the trigger.

i just was in checkout and about to pay and it had me ordering 2, and then I tried to change it to 1 and it then said my cart was empty and started all over. WTF

My first MBP I got $100 off and my replacement one I got $100 to the app store. What kinds of deals are we talking for an iPad 2? Just curious cause I figure the education discount is another $50 off making it $350 for me. Macmall have similar pricing with a case or amazon possibly beat that? I've always gone through Apple when buying these.

It looks like regular pricing for the iPad2 is now $399 for the 16GB, no 3G. My wife is a teacher, so I just now pulled up the education site and it looks like the same price. My local sales tax is about 10%, so buying through Apple is a dealbreaker for me if Amazon or MacMall have the same pricing. Luckily, they usually have lower pricing to boot. With MacMall you can also get 2.5% cash back through Fatwallet.com.

Could someone explain how 4g is only on AT&T
I was the one that posted that. I was watching the techcrunch live feed and to be honest the two people on there seemed clueless as the feed went on. From what they said it would be initially only available in 4G on ATT, then wouldcome out on VZW. HOWEVER I would take that with a grain of salt because, again, these two seemed lost while on camera.

#### . . . I am at checkout. logged in. CC info and shipping all there. I hit continue. It does the the circle loading thing. And then it's just still on the secure checkout page. No payment confirmation or anything. I am hesitant to click continue again and get charged twice. ####.

After about 10 times of getting to the checkout page and then having to start all over, mission accomplished!!! 2 iPads coming my way! Be persistent and you'll finally get the checkout process to work.
