I actually walked into our local Apple store this morning - 2 people in line in front of me. I like apple, and have a lot of their products, but I did want to smack the crap out of a few of the employees who were just a little geeked up, and disappointed that I was not jumping for joy at being able to buy the new ipad. We'll see how sales look - pre-orders now are so much of the initial launch total, that long waits are not a good indicator of demand. I did the same thing when I bought the 4s on launch day, walked right in the morning of the launch with no wait. And I think sales were still pretty good for that launch.I'm in Philly for a few days. Walked by an Apple store this morning and was surprised by the lack of people in the store at opening time. Was probably 40 workers and perhaps 5 or 6 customers.
Mine's on the truck for delivery also, and I'm off on Fridays.
So who is going to get theirs first?

I have a 1st gen, so the display upgrade is startling. Much more than I anticipated. Its most noticeable in the type. I am at work, so not a lot of time to play around with it - in fact still trying to get my apps on it.I am on wifi so have not tested the 4g speed (not even sure if we have 4g here).Trying to answer two questions at once. iPad apps look better, and in some cases are designed to take advantage of the larg screen, but you can use iPod/iPhone apps on an iPad. Most of the apps I get now are for the iPad. Occasionally I get an app that I use just on my phone.Question - how bad do the regular apps look on the screen? Can you choose if you want to install the new ipad version or "old" version if you want to save space?
Ok but do they make different version of the IPAD app?I obviously don't have an apple product. Every time an IPAD comes out I learn as much about it and fight the urge to buy one.... This year I may break down...TIATrying to answer two questions at once. iPad apps look better, and in some cases are designed to take advantage of the larg screen, but you can use iPod/iPhone apps on an iPad. ***Official*** first iPad post.Ok, I'll stop now.

Not sure I completely understand what you are looking for - but yes, in many cases there is a app built for the ipad. If you have an iphone only version, you would have to buy the ipad version separately.Apps came in different flavors - iPad only, iPhone/iPod/iPad, and iPhone/iPod only if there are different versions of the same app, usually the ipad version will be "HD", and in all cases, if an app will run on both natively, it will be identified in the app store with a "+"Ok but do they make different version of the IPAD app?I obviously don't have an apple product. My 1st gen was wifi only. I survived with minimal disruption. Primary uses are at home and at work, where I have wifi access. There were several times that I wanted access when I was traveling - a lot of hotels and airports charge for wifi. My new one has 4g, but I will have it set-up on an "as-needed" basis i.e. I won't use it most of the time, but like being able to use it when I need it.Another question besides my one above. This was somewhat answered and asked before but I want to get opinions.I called Verizon and if I want to activate my mobile hotspot on my phone it's $30 a month - however I get unlimited data without change. If I buy an IPAD with 4g access it's a new device so I have to pay the tiers. 2GB for $30 , etc etc.So on the surface it's a no brainer for a wi-fi only one right? Obviously if plans change, or they change their terms etc etc I'm screwed but for now that seems like the way to go..Damn it.....
Was that just for me?Got one at work. The screen is simply stunning. Best digital display I have ever seen, period. Unbelievable.
ETA: The retina screen is a game-changer, IMO.

Game-changer™Mine arrived today at 2:53PM after making the Middleton, PA to Harrisburg, PA to Newark, NJ to Elizabeth, NJ to Edison, NJ run (prior to hopping on the truck for the ride to my house). Hit Elizabeth, NJ last night, so I knew we were good at that point, but it sure spent a long time in Middleton, PA.That doesn't seem right. Is it still saying delivers on 3/16?My iPad has been "Preparing for Shipment" since Saturday. Ordered mine (32 GB Black + Verizon 4G) on the day they were available to order at around 8PM EST, for what it's worth.
A++++++++++++++++ transaction. Great eBayer. Would buy from again.Anyone interested in buying a practically new iPad2? We bought one last year and it's literally been used a handful of times, and has otherwise sat and collected dust. It's this one:White iPad2 16GB Wifi only; also with the Apple magnetic smart case (grey) which I'll throw in freeLooks like they're going for $360-380 or so on eBay, but if I can sell to a FBG and give someone here a deal on it, I wouldn't mind. What's a fair FBG discount? $325? $300 and you pay shipping? Whatever is fair, just let me know -- if nobody here is interested I'll post it up on eBay, but figured I'd give my good ibuddies a shot first.OT

This. Side by side with my iPad2 - shocking how crystal clear this display is.'goonsquad said:Got one at work. The screen is simply stunning. Best digital display I have ever seen, period. Unbelievable.ETA: The retina screen is a game-changer, IMO.
Not sure if anyone is buying but people are trying to sell them for $375 (16 gb) or even $400 on Craigslist. There have been posts from the Apple Store telling people to not buy the iPads for more than $400. Also, people are trying to sell the iPad 3's for much more than what they are sold for.Anyone sell their old iPad 2s and for how much?

Haven't had a lot of time with it today, but my initial impression is that I'll be using my MacBook pro a whole lot less. For web surfing, email, messaging and probably a few other things I'm not thinking about right now, I can see myself going exclusively to the iPad. This thing is a real pleasure to use. The screen is pretty amazing.Ive been waiting on the fbguys reviews of the iPad 3. Let's go guys.
lolJust get a Prime.Quit talking about shipments and talking about common sense stuff like larger files. Talk about keyboards.Anyone use a case that has a keyboard in it or carry a keyboard with them?
I figure if I buy one this thing will be easier to carry around than a laptop, no?

The ipad charger is a higher voltage. Finally got to open my box. It took a while to update all my apps on my laptop so i didnt get to play with it too too much. However, this thing is gorgeous. Even the weather channel app looks amazing. Any app must haves? I grabbed some of those new optimized ones, zite, netflix hbogo etc. whatelse? Also, i notice that the ac adapter differs from the iphone's. Can you not recharge the ipad and iphone on the same charger?

Yes. It is a giant battery. As an..ahem..eductated person about this cell I would strongly advise if you are going to use the smaller charger to charge to 100% with it every single time. Bad behavior would be to use phone charger go go from 20-60% then down to 40% then up to 100% on the big charger. This will make your battery gauge treat you with great suspicion. On a battery this size you could be looking at substantial (artificial) drops in capacity. But it will still charge it, just slower, correct?cough...higher currentThe ipad charger is a higher voltage. Finally got to open my box. Good info here. Thanks. The iPad is a little heavier than I was expecting, but not a problem. I need to start going back to the gym anyway.Yes. It is a giant battery. Picked up Notes Plus at the recommendation of a friend. If you plan to take notes with your iPad, this thing is great. Combines, writing, typing, audio...will automatically render shapes, allows you to move things around on the page after you have typed or written them just by selecting and dragging. It even has a handwriting recognition add-on that works pretty well. Have only had the chance to test it using my finger since I don't have a stylus yet, but I can see myself using this app in meetings a lot. My typing has always been slow, so to be able to write things down and convert it later to text is a pretty cool option for me.Finally got to open my box. It is going to depend on the type of USB connection you have from your laptop.can you not charge the ipad with a USB connection to laptop? Had mine connected the other day and it didn't charge at all.

what are the different types?there are 3 types. Some laptops use a mixture, and the configuration can vary quite a bit. usb 2.0 is the min spec and can carry 500mA. 3.0 is the new standard and can carry 900mA. Unless your laptop is ancient it will have at least one 2.0 on it somewhere. Most commonly the rear ports are the high spec ports.Edit: Yes I know you can hot configure USB to have different charge rates, thanks. It is going to depend on the type of USB connection you have from your laptop.can you not charge the ipad with a USB connection to laptop? For the most part no. It will charge, but very, very slowly - and only if you have it turned off. At least that is my experience with the ipad1.can you not charge the ipad with a USB connection to laptop? Had mine connected the other day and it didn't charge at all.
