Is 2008 the year where Manning no longer is #1 QB? (1 Viewer)

Assuming Moss comes back, and Stallworth or a suitable replacement returns, then unequivocally yes.

The decline of Harrison factors in here as well.

Next year in a Shark draft Manning should go about round 4-5, basically where ever Brees was going. Then again in a true shark league where QBS go late, Manning is probably a round 10 pick.

One of the reasons why I ask is that Manning has always been taken #1, when he has never (or maybe only once) been the #1 fantasy QB. So does Brady's performance finally adjust the perceived value of Manning downward correctly to a 3rd to 4th round pick.

Right now Peyton isn't even the #1 Manning in fantasy, let alone of all QBs.

It depends on how much the Patriots are willing to pay Randy Moss. The Patriot offense goes through him.
I hear through the grapevine that Moss is out and out GUSHING at how happy he is playing for New England. He's certainly not making a lot of money this year and he could easily sell himself out to the highest bidder. But from what I'm hearing, at least on the surface it does not appear that $$$ will be the main factor in whether Moss sticks around or not. Who knows, maybe if Moss gets a ring this year his incentive for sticking around may be reduced and he will go somewhere based on how much they are willing to sign him for. But at least for now he seems pretty happy and content.

Absolutely fantastic news David, always appreciated!

I don't think that the reason Manning has been drafted #1 for so long is because he is better than Brady. I think it's more about the way both teams needed to win in the past. Keep in mind, as someone mentioned above, that the guys who are drafting Manning #1 may not be your typical sharks, and they may have an inaccurate perception of the two QBs. I think it's because the "mainstream" perception of Brady and NE was that they didn't always need to throw the ball to win, while the mainstream perception of Manning and Indy was that they did need to throw the ball to win. So the consistency of how much Manning needed to throw per game was theoretically more than Brady. I do think we are seeing a change though, as Manning and the Colts seem to be taking what the defense gives them, and the Pats seem to be throwing all day (because it is working so well). It's almost as if the 2004 season has been reversed between the Colts and Pats. In answer to the OP's question, it depends a lot on the league you are in. I'd say a fair share of leagues Manning will still go #1, while a lot will grab Brady #1 too. Only time will tell...

Brady is now in the perfect situation to succeed, and the coach wants him to run up the score and get as many touchdowns as possible, so he's obviously number 1 from now on and going into next year. My analysis of the 6 tds yesterday:

#1 has all the time he needs ... 8 yd slant ... stallworth with a heck of a run does a helluva job

#2 throws it in on a playaction from the 3 (why are defenses worried about the pats run game when brady is obviously trying to get the td record?)

#3 has all the time in the world ... long bomb to moss in double coverage - great catch

#4 has more than all the time in the world ... long bomb to moss in double coverage - great catch

#5 has tons of time again ... hits welker with a nice pass, welker dives in

#6 no QB pressure once again ... hits welker on a short slant over the middle ... welker breaks a tackle and goes in for the score

This team is way too good so you can expect plenty more of the same.

Here's a scary stat . . .

Most fantasy points by WRs the past 3 weeks (0 ppr):

#1: Welker (50 points)

#2: Stallworth (43 points)

#3: Moss (39 points)

We'll see about that. I have a hard time believing that Moss can put up the type of season he's on pace for and not expect a huge payoff later on. Maybe that was his plan all along. I don't see how the Patriots keep him if he's not at least the highest paid wide receiver in the game. In the end it's always about the money. Even when you think for a second that it might not be about the money, it's about the money.

If Randy Moss is still with New England next season Tom Brady will be the #1 ranked QB entering 2008.

If not, Peyton Manning will assume his accustomed spot atop the list of fantasy quarterbacks.

Wow. Great stat, Yuds.
Only if you believe that Welker and Stallworth would be as productive without Moss on the field as they are with him. IMO they wouldn't be. Moss draws so much attention that it benefits every other offensive player on the field.

I'm not suggesting that Moss will play for $3 million again, but I don't think he'll command the max contract from any team to be matched by the Pats. For example, if the market for him might be 4 years, $40 million, maybe he'd take 3 years at $24 million. Maybe. It's not worth talking about at this point anyway because Moss already used up his one contract renegotiation for this season and can't sign a new deal until the next football year (2008).

In my Super Shark League, I should be able to get him off waivers after the draft.
