Is Droughns in danger of losing his job to Harrison? (1 Viewer)

I was listening to a fantasy football radio show this morning on KFAN, and they were saying that if Droughns doesn't play today, and Harrison starts and he impresses, there is a good chance that Harrison is the Browns starting RB the rest of the season (i.e. Droughns loses his job).

What are you thoughts on this? Is this hype or reality?

I just posted about this on my blog.

The Browns desperately need gamebreakers on offense. Droughns excels behind good o-lines as a north-south banger who can protect a 4th quarter lead, 3-yards and a cloud of dust. Unfortunately, the Browns neither have a good o-line, nor will they be protecting many leads in the latter stages of most games.

Harrison will be starting in Cleveland before this season's done.

I believe Harrison will take over sooner rather than later.

The fact that Droughns is looking to play injured, he is listed as questionable vs. Balt., tells me he himself is in fear of losing his job to Harrison and for good reason. Harrison tore it up in the preseason and has the receiving dimension that Droughns just doesn't possess.

It looks like he'll get every third series today, but If he blows up today against the Raven defense I think it's over for Droughns.

Harrison will not blow up today against the Ravens. No RB does. If it happens, it will be in the next couple of weeks if he gets the opportunity. Get him cheap now, or after a subpar week this week, before the rest of your league gets clued in.

This reminds me of the Jamal Lewis/Chester Taylor debate from last season. Now I don't think either Cleveland RB is as talented as their Ravens (ex-Ravens in terms of Taylor) counterparts but I think the situations are similar. Lewis got off to a horrible start last season and the talk for weeks and weeks and weeks was that Taylor would eventually take over or get a bigger role. Neither happened. He got a chance to start when Lewis got hurt but other than that his role remained the same.

Again, I don't think Droughns is as talented as Lewis (nor do I believe Harrison is as talented as Taylor) but I don't see the Browns jumping ship on the starter who had a pretty good year last season and signed a three-year contract extension in the off-season. I think it's possible Harrison could emerge as a third-down RB and be used similar to the way the Ravens used Taylor but I think the only way Droughns loses his job is to serious injury. I also don't believe Droughns is trying to play today because he's fearful of losing his job. I don't see that at all. He's simply trying to help his team by getting on the field. I don't think there's any reason to turn that into something negative -- especially given how there's been zero indications thus far that Droughns is in any remote danger of losing his starting job.

Just my 2 cents.

I think most players look to play regardless of their listing on the injury list, unless the team specifically says that they are out for an extended period of time. I can't count how many times a player is listed as questionable and then starts or plays, of course it works the other way also when a player has been injured says they will play and then they sit. This sounds like a case of you reading more into this than there really is.

Yes, but would you drop LenDale for him?
A very tough call. Cleveland's schedule is really hard. Both backs are only starter possibilities at this point. If I had to guess, its more likely Harrison gets an opportunity than LenDale because of the 3 RB's in Tennessee and the explosiveness Harrison showed in preseason.

Wow! most of you really don't understand the Browns at all. Romeo will not bench a lunchpail type like Droughns. At best Harrison wins a RBBC spot like Romeo wanted with Droughns and Suggs/Green. Harrison has great agility but he goes down too much on first contact and is not the guy to bust it up the middle. I could see him in more on outside runs and 3rd and medium and 3rd and long, although I haven't seen his pass blocking enough to know if he could get the 3rd down stuff. Romeo won't put him in there if he can't block or misses assignments. He won't take a chance at getting Frye killed.

Romeo considers Harrison a 3rd down back in the old David Meggett type role. A vital role to the Giants championship teams and a role Kevin Faulk plays for New England.

I don't think there's a danger in Reuben losing his job. If Harrison does well, he'll just likely spell Reuben more often and be thought of more as an extra weapon.

Of course some 150-200 yard game would change everything
