Is It Over For Alex Smith in SF? (1 Viewer)

Sorry if this ends up Honda. I am on my mobile.

I don't know how on Earth Alex Smith could have finished that last drive without craziness going through his head.

It's painfully obvious the SF faithful has well, no faith in him any longer and he really did lay an egg on that last drive. Is this the end (finally)? I've preached having faith but I think it's time to call it a relationship.

Thoughts?

Those 2 touchdown drives will win him another week. At this point I don't give a damn anymore, it's not like Carr would be any better guys.

Bench him.
If they lose tonight..0-5 square on his shoulders. Bench him.
Really? You don't think giving up an average of 26 points a game has anything to do with it?
Did you watch this clown play for the last 6 years ??

No ? Then you don't know what you talkin about
Yes, I have. I live in San Francisco. I'm not saying he's a great QB. Not by any means. What I am saying is that he doesn't play on defense. You know, the defense that is ranked 27th in the league? The one that was supposed to define their team in 2010? Have you seen them play? If not, then you don't know what you talkin about.

The guy was not expected to win games for the 49ers. I'm pretty sure everyone was aware of that. He's not Peyton. He's Trent Dilfer.

Then none of us know what we're talking about... I haven't seem them play all season. And I watched every game. :banned:I've been supporting Smith for years. He's gotten a bad draw of cards with injuries and the OC situation. But it doesn't matter anymore. SF needs a change.

7 of those points given up tonight was from a ridiculously dumb Alex Smith fumble. They lost by 3.
I concede that. No question, it was dumb. I just can't get behind everyone pinning the 49er woes on Alex Smith. Their defense has been junk.

No doubt the defense has had its blunders AKA the Clement's INT fumble instead of falling on the ball last week, and then letting ATL march down the field for a score.

I agree. But let's not trade in our Kia for a Yugo.
With the first pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, The 49ers select Andrew Luck, QB Stanford University.

I've seen them play 3 times. In terms of what needs to be fixed, I don't think QB is in the top 5.

If you think Alex Smith is the core of the problems with SF, you're seeing something I'm not. The defense is garbage. The o-line is filled with 1st/2nd round guys, tons of money, yet 2nd down on the 1 they keep throwing it? So either the o-line sucks or the OC is an idiot.

Singletary just isn't a good head coach. He has no composure. Look at Reid/Singletary for a good example of a winning HC and a losing HC.

So between HC, OC, o-line, d-line, dbs, you have more to worry about then Alex Smith. He showed tonight he can run an NFL offense. He can make all the throws. The offensive line was just brutal all night. Gore had 2 fumbles. And SF probably has the worst defense in the NFC.

Wow...I thought the guy played very well. He made one terrible play, but he also made a TON of great plays. Seemed like he was constantly getting out of serious trouble with his feet. Carr woulda taken 10 sacks in that game.

SF fans blaming Smith for this loss are seriously delusional...he's the only reason they were even in the game to begin with.

Samurai Mike says their might be a QB change this week. At the very least, it will be a good litmus test to see if the team can not lose with Carr. My money is on another loss.

Exactly.

Im done making excuses for Alex Smith. Or accepting excuses for Alex Smith.
OK. So, do you think Carr will be better? Serious question.
I think Alex Smith is holding this team hostage and will hurt the rest of the team by staying in the line up.If another non-goldenboy (like Michael Lewis or Vernon Davis) played as he has, they would be benched.Thats how it works. Its fair. It keeps the team on an even keel when players are not playing well -- instead of making excuses for him every other week.So the teams situational outcome would be improved... even if Carr and Davis failed and eventually they went back to Smith.

Which ?

The 1st int ?

The fumble ?

The 2nd int ?

The scary throws ?

ftr: just wanted to point out that this thread will have some fantasy players who own Smith that will not want to lose his statistical production. im not discussing fantasyfootball as it pertains to Sparky Smith, hes done okay in that area.

The fumble. First pick was 45 yards downfield late in a half...at opponents 3 yard line. Ridiculous to call that a "bad play", especially since in todays NFL 1/3 of those tries draw interferance penalties. The second pick was in desperation time, and he got hit as he was releasing the ball....his only terrible play all night was the fumble.

BS...I think he's my backup in one league...out of 10+ Guy played a very good game.

I agree there is a lot of work needed in all aspects of the team, but Alex Smith is the ULTIMATE momentum killer. The guy can make a nice throw every once in a while, but in between its filled with 3 and outs due to his lack of touch on even a simple 6 yd throw. I can't count how many times he's over thrown short open pass and missed guys by 30 feet on the deep pass, many resulting in INTs. The constant 3 and outs and turnovers due to the guys inability to keep focus hurts morale in games. We get a stop, we give it back, its endless sometimes for the defense.

He's done okay in FF for his ADP. Im just saying some people will be pro-Smith staying in the line-up simply because of fantasy reasons.

Look, we're not talking about fantasy nowIf you think Alex Smith is a good QB i think you need some glasses

But it's the OL faultoh wait maybe the OC......or the sun.....the fingernails or..........

the game was close despite 3 incredibly costly fumbles, an o-line that gave him literally no time, and an opponent that was moving the ball with ease. Wtf do you guys possibly want from your qb ??? Because it would have been tough for anyone in the league to deliver it tonight.

Yeah whoever the RT was, he was getting destroyed. The RT and right DE were in Smith's lap all game. He barely had a pocket most passes, was running for his life and make something out of nothing constantly. He's not a great QB. He might not even be a good QB. But he's hardly "holding SF back". SF's defense is just brutal and the o-line is a freaking mess.

Yeah....keep blaming the OLGood job

well he played well and you are still ripping into him. youre right that im mostly just basing it on tonight but...you guys are definitely going after the wrong target if you are seriously mad at ALEX SMITH after that game.

Begging for Carr is like begging for herpes. You will definitely wish for a take-back.

Define good?Do I think he's a pro-bowl caliber QB...heck no.DO I think he's an above average starter? Not really. But I do think he's among the top 25 or so human beings on the planet at the position. I also think he's young, and has been saddled with injuries, multiple systems and poor play around him for his short career. I think he has plenty of room to grow and maybe become one of the top 15 or so at his position. He's a dissapointment as a former #1 pick, and always will be...but he's NOT a terrible QB that deserves the kind of criticism he's still getting.San Fran has problems...but Alex Smith is far down that list. He needs to remain the starter, and San Fran needs to see if he can grow. He showed more then enough tonight to retain his job.

obviously you guys have only seen the nationally televised games vs NO and PHI
True...but what's your point? WHy rip the guy when he was about the only person on the team who actually played well. IN fact...he's arguably the only reason SF was even competitive tonight.Seems a bad time to rip on him.
