Israel Idonije (1 Viewer)

We need to start 1 DT in my Yahoo league and he's listed as a DT.

If he becomes one of those out of the blue guys who gets 10+ sacks, he'll dominate that DT position. Yahoo!!

I took the projections' word for it last week, picked Idonije up and started him. Got over 17 points in my league's scoring system. I don't expect him to produce numbers like that again this season, but if he takes advantage of the opportunity given to him with Mark Anderson's release, he could do very well lined up opposite Julius Peppers.

From yesterday's Reading the Defense:

Idonije has been an underrated run defender as a rotational player in Chicago, but don’t get overly excited about this stat line. Idonije isn’t a threat off the edge, nor is he a particularly crafty pass rusher. Against Carolina, he ran around a lesser offensive tackle for his first sack on a nice play but his next two sacks had more to do with Jimmy Clausen than Idonije’s pass rush ability. What Idonije may have going for him is an increase in playing time. With Mark Anderson traded, Charles Grant still trying to get into playing shape and Corey Wootton not yet ready either, Idonije may get another chance at extended snaps against marginal offensive line talent against Seattle and Washington in the next two weeks. Don’t mortgage anything to roster him and watch the Chicago media for notes on the expected playing time of Grant and Wootton, but Idonije may be worth considering as a DE2 this week.

What is the deal with Wootton? You would think with the lack of depth at DE the Bears have that the kid would get at least some playing time and a chance to shine. Any Bears faithful have any insight on what the story is with him?

so is this cat worth bidding on this week? I have Stylez White, Clemons and Chris Johnson(CAR). So, I could obviously use a headliner. From reading the above, sounds like a 50/50. I wouldnt expect last weeks numbers, but is he a soild play at least as good as what I got now? I would take the chance he becomes better as the season goes. Having Peppers on the other side helps him too.

Idonije actually got 0.5 a sack taken away when the stats were adjusted.

He got robbed if you asked me.

Scroll down that play by play to the 2nd play from scrimmage in the 3rd Quarter. Clausen tried to scramble and just gave himself up at the LOS. Idonije clearly appears to have touched him 1st for a "Sack" because there was no gain but Urlacher falling in late gets credit for a 0.5 sack.

Urlacher is having the luckiest season I have seen in a long time. Twice he recovered fumbles when he was no where near the play and the ball took bounces right to him, his INT was a garbage lucky play where the ball hit off the receiver's body and bounced to him 6 yards away near the LOS, and now he gets credit for a 1/2 sack on this play?

But then he leads LB in missed tackles this season with 7. Go figure...

looks like a good opportunity for Idonije - he's available, but not sure if I play him over J.Abraham who gets the chance to feast on Kolb this week?
