Italian Chess (1 Viewer)

Baloney Sandwich

I love this game and when it comes to the beach version of it I would argue I'm one of the top 20 players in the world.  Granted, I've never played on a traditional bocce court but I'm assuming those are few and far between in the US.

Sounds like a bunch of Bologna...

You'd be surprised, it's quite big here in the North East, especially in small, consolidated Dago communities...Serious Business.

I'm sure some old dagos in NYC could beat me on a traditional court until I had a few games unde my belt but I'd bury them on a beach.  I have a flop, reverse spin method that is spot on.

Not sure what you call the game that is played on the beach using bocce balls and playing by bocci rules but that is the game I mean.  I call it Italian Chess but YMMV. ....Gotcha'; don't get hard Peter, was just playin' with ya...Chess being the game, be sure to implement the "Sicilian Defense"...God, I hate this format

Tried to respond, but this board is frustrating...TL:DR- I see what you're saying, was just having a bit of fun

Wow...so this one little online community has the world's greatest cornholer and beach bocce players in the world??? What are the odds?
I never claimed to be the greatest, I put myself in the top 20 but since I there aren't official rankings it is tough to really say.  However, I do think that once you get into the top 100 or so everyone is on the same skill level. It basically comes down to how well the ball is leaving your hand that particular day and your confidence level to go for your kill shots under pressure.

How can you say that.  You know all about Johnston,  North Providence,  and Cranston.  I know many people that have permanent setups at their HOMES!  I'm not even talking about the many Italian American clubs in Rhody that also have them.  "What, do you think you can just step into the ring with Ali?"

There's a bocce club down here in NO. The game of bocce goes back more than a hundred years here.

I went to a largely Italian grade school next to an Italian church.  The priest's residence next door had a bocce pit in the yard.  Many an Italian would also play bocce in our school yard.

No real point to any of that, just wanted to share.

I live down in South County and thankfully avoid the Italian towns of RI unless I'm going out for dinner.

My expertise is definitely beach bocci though.  I played my 7 year old son in our yard yesterday and lost to him so I have some work to do to get better on other surfaces.  I'm dominate on one particular surface, much like Guillermo Vilas was an amazing clay court tennis player but struggled to match that success on grass and hard courts.
