It's been a great run Peyton - now enjoy retirement.. (1 Viewer)

He still has the brains, but his physical ability at this point is in the bottom 1/3 of NFL starters.

well yeah, it probably has been for nearly a decade
Not really....he never had a cannon but was at least accurate with terrific touch. His arm is possibly dead last among starters now while his accuracy and touch at this point are average at best. If he weren't so darn smart he wouldn't be worth starting at all.

This is sad, he's toast. Be surprised to see him finish in top 12 FF QBs

He only came back to beat favres records
Nah, he's only throwing like that 'cos he's hurt. When he's healthy..... LOOKOUT!

So are those folks saying he'll be healthy before or after the age of forty?

Even if he only came back for the records....................so? Still love watching him play, and he is still clearly better than quite a few starting Qbs out there.

Still got the mind for the game, though. Once he hangs 'em up, he's gonna be the best game day QB coach in history. With the mic in the qbs ear he'll make any 22 year old QB the best in the league.
Can't say I agree with this at all.

The best players make the worst coaches.

Even if Manning is a good coach, he can only say so much into that mic before it shuts off and that QB you speak of needs to make reads and operate on his own.

Probably a lot more money and a lot less aggravation being a great TV analyst rather than being a QB coach. Like Madden or Aikman.

Not sure why he risks significant injury to his neck and back.

No QB looks good with heavy pressure right up the middle and Peyton was getting it all night. RBs weren't picking up blitzes and their Center looked tiny and overwhelmed at times. Maybe Mathis helps stabilize things but it's going to be a very long season for a weak armed and immobile QB if they can't stop that interior pass rush

Crazy Tennessee fans have been pining for him being a coach for years.

Not sure how much I see it.

Guy is a perfectionist and expects that from those around him. Could see him being a royal pain in the ### as a coach. THinking he could do it better and not really being satisfied with anything.

Why would he want to be a QB coach? He'd make more money as a part-time actor/pitch man in commericals.

Kind of reminds me of the LT situation a couple of years back. People don't want to admit/realize that they players they've watched dominate for so long eventually hit the wall.

I think Manning will have several "Manning-esque" games this year...but I also think he'll poop the bed in several games this year.....and the average of his remaining games will be less than average.

I don't understand why the Broncos are getting so much love in the Super Bowl wagering in Vegas.

Maybe due to that pass rush, decent RBs, and Manning still being a very good QB.

A lot more money?

No.
Who are the QB coaches who make Aiken/Madden type money? Not many head coaches do.
Its thought that Aikman, who is in the lead Fox team, makes around $1 million.

Every single head coach in the NFL makes at least 4 times that.

There are many assistants who make at least that amount. It depends on their importance to the team.

I'm certainly not intimidated by that team. Is it more that the NFL as a whole is mediocre....or that the Broncos are that good?

The NFL does typically lack one incredible team. There are a handful of good teams that all have a shot.

Nah, I would bet he was talked into coming back by Elway, who hired Kubiak and was able to play the "we'll run the ball well and you'll just have to pick up 3rd downs like I did my last year" card, but the difference is, while Elway's wheels weren't the same at the end, his arm was still strong as hell and he could still sling it down the field (see: the TD pass to Rod Smith in SB33); it appears as if Peyton has lost quite a bit of arm strength and his throws don't have nearly the zip they used to and even throwing down field 20 yards appears to be a struggle at times.

I'm not even sure they wanted him back this year. Only reason he's there is because he accepted a pay cut.

Then you don't understand how Vegas works.

People are betting on them and are going to bet more on them. Vegas knows this. The odds have absolutely nothing to do with what Vegas actually thinks of the Broncos.

I think that's his point. "Why are so many people betting on them to win the Super Bowl?" appears to be his question.

It will be interesting to watch this year because you have a guy who is so knowledgeable and knows exactly what to do and where to put that ball and what happens when those touch passes and short passes that he's made 10,000 times just are "off" by that little bit? Just not enough zip or just that little bit.

I think the model WILL be very much like the end days of Elway and they will run more. They have that type of team and they have that type of Rb and I'm sure Elway has pounded the table more than once because it worked for him, personally.

But I think we could see some very costly turnovers this year with Manning and might see the corner being turned to that point to where the mind still has it but the body just won't. I've seen this talked about a lot in basketball where players say they visualize it perfect, know its coming, and their bodies just won't let them get the timing right anymore and for the great players that is the most frustrating part because you literally LOOK a step too slow and it becomes obvious to everyone you just aren't the same.

ah, then I read that wrong

I think people are overreacting to the whole Manning ability slide. I mean, yeah, obviously he isn't as good as he was when he was 30.

So......................what????????

He was obviously still a top end QB last year (and I dont even mean fantasy, I mean for actual real football), and he will pretty easily be in the top 10 this year IMO.

If he only wants to play for records, again, so what?? There is nothing wrong with that. Last I checked the players do not sign themselves to contracts.

So they can't win a super bowl with Manning?? Let's say for second this is even true (which it is clearly not, because they certainly CAN win it all), so what?? There are like 25 QBs in the NFL right now who "can't" win a super bowl. I guess everyone should just retire then?

Enjoy the ride. Like him or hate him, his presence makes the NFL better.

Even with a loss in arm strength, he'll adjust and produce a fine fantasy QB. He's still one of the smartest, if not smartest, players in football.

This.

I see a drop for Thomas and sanders (the deep passes anyway) as he relies more on the ground game and short to intermediate routes, but he'll still help the Broncos win games and make they playoffs.

Anyone worried about thomas' production need look no further than Gary kubiak and how his system features the x receiver and the TE. Think Andre Johnson but catching passes from the best Qb to ever play the game and scoring Tds. Thomas has the potential to be the #1 fantasy wr this year andossibly by a wide margin.

Sanders might see a dip but I doubt that with thomas gone. Their #3 wr isn't going to factor in much this year.

Owen Daniels is going to be a valuable commodity too. He knows the system and he's exactly the type of TE that manning loved to throw to. He's savvy, good route runner and great hands.

Manning doesn't have the weaponry to challenge for 5000 yards and 50 Tds again but 4500 yards and 35-40 sounds about rt.

Analysis: An NFC executive said Manning looked "immobile" in the pocket during the preseason and "flinches under pocket pressure." Manning struggled this preseason, fluttering passes across the middle of the field and underthrowing receivers down the sidelines. Manning has the football intelligence to overcome physical limitations, but his collapse down the stretch last year mixed with his underwhelming preseason raise legitimate concerns about his ability to hang with the other elite fantasy quarterbacks.
