There is more to this event, but I would like to get an opinion on a rule that was placed in the league rules at the begining of the season, and then reposted in week 5.

To eliminate one thought, neither eliminated team is asking to be placed back in the league or for their money back.

Anyway, here is the post, feel free if you have thoughts. And despite the fact that I won't be revoking this rule, I'm still trying to smooth things over a little.

October 6th Post

2 teams will become abandoned teams after this weekend. Sorry, but it's already week 5, and 2 teams appear to have been left behind.

Those teams are

The Outlaws

&

Rueben A

Those teams have until the start of games this Sunday to contact me if they want to stay in, other wise the league will run their teams from here on out.

The rules for abandoning are :

1. An owner is put on notice after not signing in for 8 consecutive days.

2. An owner is put on notice after not updating their starting roster when players have a bye week

3. An owner is put on notice after not updating their starting roster when players have been seriously injured and are listed as “doubtful” or “out” for the week of play.

4. After that previous week of not updating a roster or signing in, the team in question will have until 12 hours before the START OF THE GAME of the next week of play to update their starting rosters. At this point the roster will be automatically updated to use players that are playing that current week that scored the highest during their previous game.

5. The Thursday after the 2nd week of not updating their roster, the team will then be considered “Abandoned”. At this point an owner will no longer have rights to their team and will forfeit their winnings and their rank in the league.

6. The abandoned team will now be considered a ghost team, and its roster will be updated every week with the players that scored the highest the week before.

7. This team will not have a place in the playoffs

come play off time, these teams will obviously not be able to make the playoffs. their 2 spots will become wild card spots. So, say one team finishes first in their division. The 2nd place team in that division would then be the first place team in that division, and the abandoned spot would then be a wild card for the next best team IN THE LEAGUE, not in that division.

Also, these teams will be locked from player trades. The rosters of these teams will not be distributed or used as a mid season draft. If one of these teams doesn’t have enough players to roster a team because of injuries or bye weeks, the highest ranked free agent at that position will be picked up though standard claims.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them.

Thanks

Comish.

I'm looking for unbias thoughts before I get into much.

Sorry, wasnt trying to leave it so vague, but I am trying to keep my opinions on the issue out of it.

The ssort of it is that there is an owner that isnt a fan of the Wildcard solution and thinks we should just let the abandoned team play through the playoffs, and if they win everything then the money should be given back to everyone. . . .the oddest part to all of this is that this owner is in 1st place of the entire league right now.

I think this is the best way to handle teams that are left early in the season, but apparently others don't. . . so I wasnt sure what some of you thought.

Maybe it's not a big deal?

To me, this seems the most fair and competitive way to handle this issue, but I don't ike being a dictator either. . . .so maybe I'm wrong on this one.

The only teams locked are the abandoned teams, and those teams dont make the playoffs. . . .not sure what your trying to get at here. But yes, none of us are self-respecting . . . I forgot to mention that.

Dude thinks he has a better shot of winning against the ghost team than against the team that would get the wildcard. He also gets a bigger payout if he gets a fraction of whatever the ghost team wins. He's just F'in with you and the system. Don't listen to him.Rules are rules - you let the wildcard team in and hope like hell they can beat this #1 team.

Exaactly. You have a rule in place - whether you have too many rules or too strict rules for abandonment is not at issue. Those clearly established and known rules were violated.

The #1 guy is just messing with you - tell him he received a copy of the rules along with everyone else, and he should have raised objections BEFORE he had a vested interest and not now that he has an "angle" to play.

Or, you could be nice about it while brushing him off and simply say, "yea - that sounds fair. I'll take it under advisement for next year's rules. Too bad I already have this rule in place though. Good luck in the playoffs!"

They would have made the playoffs if you hadn't locked the teams. Don't you see anything wrong with locking a successful team?
not sure what your trying to get at here.
How about, "your rules are excessive, unnecessary, and silly"?I wouldn't want to play in a league where an undefeated team could get locked out.
Teams are locked in the sense that they won’t make pickups or trades, but as clearly noted, the lineups still are adjusted through out the season. . . .and a team isn’t a team with out a coach. The only reason that teams are still managed after they are abandoned is to keep it fair for the teams that had to play this team in the beginning of the season. And as far as being excessive and silly? Not sure who you are "quoting" here, but I have never heard that line anywhere. . . . .I suppose I should not have any rule for an abandoned team, and just let the league fight it out when this comes up?

Curious as to how you handle this situation. . .apparently it's by "not"
