Im dumbfounded on how this gets into my Fantasy Football weekly mailing:

"Musical Note Of The Week. I've mentioned that my 15 year old son is an aspiring musician. Big night for him a few weeks ago as he made his public debut at my friends very cool Remedy Coffee House in Knoxville. He played a White Stripes song, a song by Cage the Elephant and this silly song by one of his favorite bands, Flight of the Conchords. Apologies for the low video quality - Dad was more than a little nervous and failed to bring the right camera..."

I dont think this needs any explanation or debate. I love the FBG product, and I will continue to be a paying customer. That said, Ive never been a big fan of the "Random Shots" emails and this past season the content has gotten overly bothersome to me. How do I unsubscribe from this "Random Shots" email? Id like to continue to receive all other content.

Thanks

If you unsubscribe from Random Shots, you will continue to receive subscriber mailings. They're sent to separate mailing lists.

Your email address will be removed from the 'footballguys-public-fulltext' mailing list. Are you sure?
Correct -- that's the list we send Random Shots to.

This just reminded me that I am not receiving the Random Shots at all? How do I start to get them and read the past ones? I have been a member for awhile.

Just treat it like Peter King's ramblings. Read the good stuff. Skip when you see field hockey or coffee or whatever shiny coin he comes across that day.

Maybe JAA sets up an auto-forward to your email....2 happy people...

Correct -- that's the list we send Random Shots to.
what other emails would you not get?just clarifying. i think JAA's solution is misguided, just like i think JB's inclusion of that blurb about his son was misplaced.
i used to look forward to reading Random Shots as they were pretty fun to read... however this year has been terrible. a lot of non football stuff in there.just start a blog JB.

the inclusion about his son may have been misplaced or rather unfootball related in the random shots, but starting a thread declaring you have had enough, and using a proud moment a father had of his son as the straw that broke the camels back, was unnecessary in my opinion. he could have PM'd joe, david, or keith and asked how to be removed from the list, or started a thread just asking how to be removed without using joe's personal blurb regarding his son as the final jolt that fried his nerves.

I could have. I chose this route. Why so quick to judge?

You put personal stuff out there, you run the risk of this happening. And really, this shouldn't be surprising. Someone brought up Peter King. Anytime King gets brought up, someone makes a comment about his tendency to include riveting commentary on his latest Starbucks discovery. And JAA didn't insult anyone, or say anything offensive. He basically took the 'no one cares about your fantasy team' idea and extended it. I never read Random Shots, I get my comedy on the outside, so I missed it. But I have no problem with Joe including a clip of his kid. Hey, it's HIS site, and it's not like it's a pop-up or anything. But the subscribers have a right/duty to critique the content of the mailing and the site.

OK, so if you don't want to read the Random Shots, you can just delete it each week OR (if you want to be a little bit of a geek) set up a filter in your e-mail program to automatically send any message from footballguys.com with "Random Shots" in the subject to the trash. You'll never even see it.

You're right. It wasn't insulting. In fact, the post he wrote is fine, imo. But the way he titled it with an angry face and an exclamation after I've had enough. Two more and a bunch of question marks after how do I unsubscribe, made him seem truly angry about something quite trivial, ignorant as to a simple solution anyone with email should be familiar with, and he just pms-ed all over the Shark Pool, imo.

He's got a point though, these are terrible. At least I assume they are, I only ever read one. Glad to hear we can un-sub from just that e-mail though, thanks MF.

That's the list we send offseason mailings to -- basically the Daily Update list. So no other mailings will go missing until next May. If JAA wants to be added back to the list then, he can let me know.I'm just the conduit and not the content author, but I can say that Joe is looking to give folks what they want. As social networking trends permeate through the internet and become common practice, we're increasingly seeing personal correspondence and marketing converge. Many like it, some don't -- no harm, no foul -- but increasingly, it is becoming an expected practice.

JAA, just realize that if you unsubscribe now you'll miss out on the Bryant family vacation photo album included in next week's e-mail. Your loss.

They're posted on the weekly content pages for subscribers:http://subscribers.footballguys.com/2009/09week7.php

If you're not getting the Random Shots mailings but you're a subscriber, it's probably one of two things: either your mailhost is blocking/junkmailing our emails to you, or your address has been unsubscribed from the list somehow. If you PM me your email address, I'll take a look.

So what you're saying is it's business as usual around here?I think JAA brings up something worth discussing, although maybe not in the Shark Pool. And if others feel the same, I think Joe would like to know. And I think that is more important that the amount of punctuation.

I kind of like them. But if I didn't, I would've PM'd or emailed the site admins on how to unsubscribe, or merely deleted them rather than throwing a temper tantrum in the shark pool and trying to embarrass Joe.

most email services have a filter option where you can filter the emails you receive by sender or even TITLE. if you hate the random shots so much, make yourself a filter.

i for one feel this post was a bit unnecessary but to each their own. you stated your post needed no explaination or debate, which i find quite interesting considering you posted this in the shark pool instead of the help forum?? seems to me that was exactly your intention... :(

I like them a lot, too.

I would guess that the random shots, while seemingly a simple thing, is easily one of the hardest / most time consuming pieces to produce as well. So I appreciate your work, Joe.

The irony here is that the time the OP invested in creating and replying in this thread is greater than the time it would of taken him to delete all the random shots emails for the next few decades.

If you unsubscribe from Random Shots, you will continue to receive subscriber mailings. They're sent to separate mailing lists.

Your email address will be removed from the 'footballguys-public-fulltext' mailing list. Are you sure?
You will be removed from the Random Shots list, but added to the FBGs most wanted list. Watch your step you now have a bulls-eye on your back.

There is a bevy of ways to handle this. Click Delete once a week, read the email and unsubscribe, set up an email filter, PM thf FBGs, click the link provided, etc.. IMO the OP was only looking for attention and decided to post his random thought to the board. The FBGs responded very respectfully.

For what it is worth, I like the Random Shots. Joe has a nice sense of humor and it is a fun read. Unlike other fantasy columnists out there he doesn't just take his random thoughts and fill his regular columns with it. Too many columns leave me wondering where the actual info is.

Keep up the great work Joe!

Maybe this is not the best place to put this, but as a general site improvement/feature wish list item, having greater control over the e-mailed content would be a great feature. Random Shots is not my cup of tea (not complaining about it, but I always delete it unread and have done so as long as I can remember). But, on the other hand, it would be awesome to have some of the IDP and Dynasty stuff sent directly to my inbox.

I'm sure easier said than done to set up a separate mailing list for each feature, but just thought I'd make the comment.

I don't mind the off-topic stuff and it sometime is very interesting (we should all work towards a little more balance). I don't understand why Joe is pushing Matt Schaub as trade bait. The guy should continue to perform well, unless Joe thinks he will get hurt soon.

:goodposting: I would like to here his reasoning, not just telling us to trade him this week.
