Jacksonville or Tampa - Which is a playoff team ? (1 Viewer)

Jacksonville seems to have the better team. However, they are in the AFC. Tough conference with a lot of good teams. Titans & Jag's seem to be the wild card front runners for a wild card with New England, Pittsburgh, San Diego & Indianapolis winning their divisions.

Tampa is medicore, they only have Carolina to worry about as far as winning the NFC south division in my opinion. If you had to place your life on which team between Tampa & Jacksonville makes the playoffs, who would you take ?

I need to call this one correctly as the Phillippine trip is very valuable. I might find a wife ? NOT!

Personally, I think both teams make it, but I only have to get one correct. Who would you bet the trip on ?

I think you answered your question. Teams that won't challenge TB are the Rams and the Falcons (unless Leftwich gets really hot). If the Ain'ts become the Saints again, and TB loses a few, well that is your only team that will challenge the Bucs in their division. Only one team stands in the way of the division for Tampa Bay and the Ain'ts have only won one game so far (plus they have a harder schedule coming up).The Jags- well, your looking at a wildcard at best the way it stands right now. A wildcard at best. The AFC South has been nicknamed the SEC. You got potentially every team could wind up with .500 record in that division alone. Indy is undefeated. Jax has lost once (but their past suggests that they always seems to find a way to lose to the Texans ((hopefully not this year)). Tennessee are their achillies heel (Jags only loss this year- and they got to play them again). Between TB and Jags- the Bucs have a way easier schedule the rest of the way and they don't play in the SEC division. However, if you have the time to wait to place your bet, wait till week 8 when both those teams square off aganist one another and you will have a better outlook to place your bet with (barring injuries). If you can't wait, bargin to make your bet after the Indy-Jags game this Monday night. The rest of the AFC is weak (Chargers and Patriots should win their divisons). Nice pic!

so are you callin tennesse a bad team, since tampa is only mediocre? tampa did beat them right?

that tampa d is better than anyone gives them credit for. I'll hand you the offense, it's not a great one, but the defense is pretty good.

as a jags fan, the fact that people are starting to consider them about the 5th best team in football concerns me. obviously, they can make the playoffs, but it's certainly no shoe-in. they still may only be the 3rd best team in the division.

they are better than the team people were growing concerned with a few weeks ago, but we must see if they can become a consistent team. this is still the same team that lost 3 straight, when they only need 1 to make the playoffs, at the end of last season.

last week's domination of a winnable game is a very encouraging sign (last season they laid eggs in winnable games). if this trend continues, then they are a formidable playoff team.

i'd put the playoff chances as about equal for the jags and the bucs. the jags are a better football team, but the bucs play in a weaker division.

although, the AFC wildcard isn't looking as difficult as i'd have guessed before the season

and the NFC wildcard may be more difficult.

in the AFC, there are the 2 dominant teams (NE/indy) and 2 teams that should be pretty good (pitt/SD), but the teams that were supposed to be competing for for the AFC wildcard (cinn, balt, den., NYJ?) have all sorts of problems. as strong as the AFC is, it may not be very deep. the kansas city chiefs appear to be a viable wildcard contender.

in the NFC, they don't have NE/indy, but after that, they may be on par with the AFC. the east has 3 very good teams (dal, nyg, was) and possibly a 4th playoff contender. the west has 2 teams that could be formidable (ari, sea). the north has gb and all the 3 of the other teams aren't great, but could be dangerous. in the south the panthers and bucs are formidable, and the saints may not be dead.

getting a wildcard in the NFC isn't going to be as easy as we may have thought.
