Ok, just curious because I see all the same things in Spiller as I do in Best. Not sure if you have seen the highlights, but worth checking out.
I was impressed with his prewk3 performance. and that was before I heard his first three runs went for negative 16 yards. That means his next nine carries went for 68 yards. That's pretty amazing for a rook going against 1st string D.

I don't. Best looks like he runs between the tackles a lot better while Spiller has looked like he wants to bounce things outside. Spiller may learn he can't bounce everything outside......if he doesn't he will turn out like Reggie Bush.Best's situation is much better as well.

I don't see this Lions team as bad as everyone thinks it will be. They could be starting the season 2-0 and if everything goes perfectly they could be a 9-7 team but more likely 6-10. The important thing is that they'll be competitive, they're no longer a pushover.

I just hope they're good enough to make the Thanksgiving game interesting.

I don't think you have to be worried too much about the tough defenses Best will face, especially if you're in a PPR league. Much like Ray Rice, Best is the sort of RB who can excel against excellent defensive lines, because the Lions are going to be looking to get him into the flat a lot. You're going to see a lot of plays like his second play against Cleveland. It would honestly not surprise me if Best had some of his best games this year during weeks where he is projected to struggle.

Plus, I'm pretty sure he can fly and incinerate would be tacklers by shooting laser beams from his eyes. Surprised that hasn't come up yet in this thread. I've raised him up my cheatsheet to -1.3, right behind Godzilla and Ming The Merciless.

I think he's much better than Ming. Godzilla, though, cannot be touched. As fast as Best is, destroying Tokyo would be a difficult challenge.

I just blew a hole through the front of my pants!!! The kid looks like a video game! Round 3 is looking like a steal for me. Fingers crossed.

That test should replace the 40 yard dash at the NFL combine. I've been on the Best train since Cal. I've picked him up in my re-draft leagues but I was not able to trade up to get him in rookie drafts.

That is why I have been picking him up in every league late in round 2. No way was I going let someone steal him in round three. People still getting Best in round 5 is ridiculous.

It would have been, but it doesn't look like that was the case. Here's a list of some of the players who were making the tackles on CJ Spiller in the 2nd quarter (when he got most of his yards): Rico Murray, Kyries Hebert, Pacman Jones, Brandon Johnson, and Jeromy Miles. According to FBG depth chart, those guys are 2nd/3rd string players. Looking at the play by play, it looks like Cincinnati pulled the large majority of their defensive starters after the first series of the 2nd quarter.

I'm a believer and drafted him early in round three, but one thing I noticed watching this is that I'm not sure he broke a single tackle in that entire highlight reel!!! He was either running through holes the size of the Grand Canyon, or breaking loose out of the flats. I'm sorry, but you just don't see holes like that in the NFL very often especially with the Motor City Kitties. Hopefully he can adjust to the speed, size, and lack of holes that he is sure to find in the big leagues.

Kinda hard to get your hands on a guy with 4.3 speed, and footwork like he has. You don't have to break many tackles..

We will see; but in the NFL if you're running through the line you usually have to break at least one tackle (see ADP) before you get to show off your speed. If you think he is going to see holes behind the Detroit o-line like I just saw in the that video you are crazy! Like I said I'm a believer and I drafted him in round 3 so I'll be anxious to see how he does the first few games breaking through the line. Once he gets free he looks positively untouchable but getting free is easier said than done . . .

Choosing 10th in a 12 team PPR tomorrow. Seriously thinking of taking Best with 2.3. I'm one of 4-5 Cal fans in the league, there is no way he falls to me at the end of round 3. It's high and against VBD by a round and a half; but if he hits, oh man.

I like all three draftable lions this year.

Perhaps I recall only the highlights, but I've got no vivid memory of Chris Johnson breaking tackles in the NFL either.

Chris Johnson has broken plenty of tackles in the NFL. Jahvid Best broke plenty of tackles in college. The person you might be thinking of is Darren McFadden, who hasn't broken a tackle in the NFL yet.

Actually, I'm not thinking of anything, but thanks all the same.

I saw him shed some tackles in the video.. Did I see him truck anybody?.. No, but I'm comfortable with him breaking the ankles of his defenders instead of their tackles..

I saw him shed plenty of arm tackles from behind or in the open field, almost every play. I'm just saying there wasn't a single clip of him muscling through a crowded line, shedding a tackle or two, and THEN busting loose. All I've seen of the guy are the highlights, so for all I know he made a living breaking through the line throughout college. I'm just saying what I saw in that clip which was one gaping hole after the other that we was able to run through like a rocket. All I'm saying is that except for rare exceptions you just don't see holes like that in the NFL very often . . . and that I'm hoping he has the ability to consistently get through a crowded line and into the secondary where he can work his magic.

Yahoo has him currently ranked at 26th, so one way or another he's pretty much gone by teh mid-3rd I would think.

Which pisses me off because my $$$ league draft is on there, and if they had him significantly lower, I think I might have been able to snag him early 4th

You also play in free leagues? Or were you talking about your big money league?

Wasn't so sure about taking him so early but after reading this thread and realizing he is the second coming of Barry Sanders I'm feeling pretty good about things.

What can we expect? Does he catch balls?

1800 all purpose with 12 TDs attainable?

Seems like a solid projection for week 1

It pisses you off that Yahoo updates their projections? Even at 26th he is underated. There are not 12 backs better than him. Personally, I don't think there are 5 backs better than Best. Come to think of it, how can anyone be better than Best.

Sweet Jesus, you guys are making it hard to be REALISTIC about this guy! Was able to snag Best in the fourth round of my PPR league, and I thought I reached a little bit. I am trying to temper my expectations from this rookie. Dude has a hard schedule and he does play for the Lions, but with the videos I'm seeing here this guy is INSANELY fast, and got some ridonkulas moves... Does he blow up the Bears for 200+ yards in week one? :)

P.S. I love this f***ing thread, and keep posting the "Best" videos possible...

We are just being objective.

Eric Karabell is pretty skeptical:

Still, I don't see a 1,000-yard back. I see missed games and a running back in a heavy passing offense. Best is definitely more of a flex option, at best, than a clear starter.

That was written yesterday. Here's hoping he's way off on this one...

In a 12m ppr money league

Just got Best at 3.04 after Rice at 1.04 and Fitz at 2.09..feeing pretty good about the draft so far :)

I considered Best at 2.09 but when Fitz fell I couldn't pass. I held my breath until 3.04

I have a ppr draft that starts in an hour, I have Rodgers and Rice as keepers, and hoping that Jennings and Best make it to the 3/4 turn(Keepers count as first twp picks.)Rice and Best will make a dangerous pair in PPR leagues this year.

Reached? No way. That is a great pick, Best is only even more valuable in PPR. He is gonna get 45 receptions minimum.
