Jahvid Best (1 Viewer)

The rap on Best when the Lions drafted him was that he was injury prone and would have trouble with the NFL grind. Best lasted a little more than two games and now he will miss a handful and may me limited all year. There two #1 picks last year Stafford and Pettigrew went down with season ending injuries in their rookie years. Now Stafford is out again along with Best and Nate Burleson. The Lions do seem to be snakebit. :wall:
Yes. He has a toe injury that may require him to play through some pain or possibly require medical attention at some point. However, he is obviously a play maker and Detroit seems to be leaning on him fairly heavily. He is their only RB option and he is obviously very much involved in their passing game. Simply, the guy makes plays. And as fantasy football players that should be all we care about...the bottom line. I for one did not expect him to put up the points he has or to be as involved as he has been. So everything he's done to this point is a bonus. Maybe he sits for a week or two...seems like checks and balances catching up to me.Either way, until he suffers from a severe injury, he has to be in your lineup when he's playing because he is a big part of the Detroit offense. Calvin Johnson has taken a backseat to this guy.

This is true. The question I have is that won't defensive coordinators figure that out? He has done all his damage receiving in one game and that seems like something that can be taken away or at least it's on tape and teams can be better prepared for him going forward. The goal line work is nice, but behind that line he has to be Superman to get meaningful ypc. A positive is his situation; no one to take carries from him. That is also a big concern. Can this guy stand up to 30 touches a game at the NFL level for 16 games? He has to answer that. He is a talented back. For dynasty, I'm concerned that the Lions will burn him out and feel he is being misused already. I understand wanting to have play makers on the field, but at what cost to your franchise long term? I really don't get what the Lions are thinking. They draft a guy that other NFL teams pegged as an injury concern and make him their bell cow back in an era of NFL RBBC? Great for fantasy if he holds up, but crazy for the kids career. The Lions aren't going anywhere this year and Stafford, Best and CJ are nice pieces to build around. With Stafford a big injury question mark for this year, do they decide to ride Best hard all year and let him play hurt? If you have Best you have to play him now because I'm not convinced he'll hold up all year. If the Lions plan on giving this guy 350+ touches this year I actually think his value is probably higher in redrafts than in dynasty.

Anyone thinking that Kevin Smith is a pretty good play right now?
Absolutely not. He's supposedly playing this week which means a handful of carries at best. When a player was average before blowing out his knee why would he be a good play nine months after the injury behind that line?

JBest hurt

RGrant hurt

RRice hurt

KMoreno hurt

JHarrison hurt

MTurner hurt

SJackson hurt

MBush hurt

KFaulk hurt

FTaylor hurt

FJackson hurt

MJDrew hurt

RBush hurt

PThomas hurt

BWells hurt

RMathews hurt
I dont think Ive ever had so many starters hurt at one time
Linebackers/Safeties are getting bigger and faster each generation. Best is young should heal faster than old guys with toe sprains like LT.

Best can't run the ball well either, and he's got several rushing TD's with that offense.
:blackdot:
Agreed. Stop it.J

Wow...thanks for the update. This had never been mentioned before.

To add, it looked like before Best got hurt there were a few plays where he lined up at slot with Morris lined up as RB (I wasn't paying super close attention though, someone who has the game on tape could double check this)... may point to the Lions wanting to use him in space without taking the punishment of trying to get out from behind that offensive line..

I don't think the lions intend on using Best as a 25 carry "bell cow", but it's obvious how dead the offense looked after he left the game that they need him to be touching the ball. If they're lining him up in the slot even on plays where he isn't in as a running back, I think that supports that.

On passing plays if they were smart they would just dump it off to him and let him run, thats how bad the detroit offense is...

So any news on his toe? Is he on crutches? A boot? Rehabbing? Anything?
What day will he be listed as questionable or doubtful? Thursday? friday??
First big news is going to be Wednesdays practice report. Lions are one of those teams which don't take the injury report very seriously so the practice reports are going to be the key, less what they list him on the injury report.

Best should play a lot of slot and should catch 70 balls... he shouldn't be running 25 times I say 15

 Might wanna grab M Morris just to be safe. TT is somethingthat only gets better with rest, they might not wanna risk their franchise back unless they have to.

any homers with local insight? WDFN still on the air?

Best held out of Lions' practice on Wednesday

Jahvid Best (toe) did not practice for the Lions today, according to MLive.com's Tom Kowalski.

Our View: This shouldn't come as much of a surprise, given that Best is dealing with a case of turf toe. We'll have to wait and see if he's able to participate on Thursday or Friday, and in what capacity he's able to do so. At his point, we still expect him to suit up and play in Week 4, though you should certainly have a backup plan just in case he ends up being inactive.

Jahvid Best (turf toe) was not participating in the open portion of Lions practice Wednesday.

The Lions will monitor Best's reps closely as turf toe injuries can be aggravated very easily. If he still can't practice by Friday, there will be real concern that the explosive rookie will at least be limited against the Packers. For a guy that relies on his speed so much, any limitations could be disastrous. Owners should have backup plans at their disposal.

That was expected.

You'd have to be pretty desperate to start Morris at Green Bay. He'd be the third best back to start in that game alone, which doesn't bode well for his prospects.

Not Kevin Smith?

Sigh...back to the bench this week. Turf Toe....he should sit out a week. It will only get worse if he plays on it a week later. This is going to really put a snafu in his season if he plays hard on it only a week after he hurt it.

Only bad things can happen if he plays this week.

I refuse to put MM on my team, even if I had to start Chester Taylor as my only RB for one week.

Agreed. Hoping he sits all week and I say realizing I badly need him this week.

While it's unlikely that Stafford will play against the Packers, it's possible the other four could take the field. Levy and Delmas are the most likely, while Best is questionable and Burleson is closer to doubtful

Yeah, I don't like turf toe injuries...they can linger bad for some.

Nick Toon (WR for Wisconsin) has missed the last 3 games for turf toe I believe.

And it has affected many before...especially RBs.

Sucks and you never know how it will flare up for some.

^this^

I was at a Seahawks game with a friend and he actually got upset at me because every play i would say: "$#$% don't give the ball to that piece of @#$$ Morris!" "No, please not this dou@$#bag loser Morris!"

He is the worst running back I have ever seen. I'm not exaggerating. The thing is, in the NFL, everyone is an awesome athlete. Except for Morris. He is horrid. I really doubt he could run for 1000 yards on a division 1 team right now.

Even if he is a GTD and plays, you'd be a fool to start him. He will be in pain if he plays and will not be able to get any push. Best owners should be hoping he doesnt play this week. Pick up Green-Ellis or someone for this week.

Jahvid Best (turf toe) insisted that he's going to "give it a go" in Friday's practice, and he hopes to play on Sunday.

"It's gotten a lot better," Best said of his turf toe injury. It now looks like Best has a better than 50/50 shot of playing at Green Bay this week, though his speed and workload are big question marks in a tough matchup. He's going to be no better than a low-end RB2 option if he gets the call on Sunday.

Please rest this week!

Ive got BJGE but right now am opting for Brandon Jackson...giving him one more week and if he can't do it against Detroit...he will never do anything.

Jahvid Best-RB-Lions Sep. 30 - 5:14 pm et

Jahvid Best (turf toe) now says that he will "definitely" play against the Packers on Sunday.

Lions rookie running back Jahvid Best said Thursday his injured right big toe is feeling much better and he's confident that he'll play Sunday in Green Bay.

"Oh yeah, definitely," Best said when asked if he'll play Sunday. "It's been getting better so far and it's looking like I'll be able to go this week."

Best said he'll practice Friday to test it out and it'll really just come down to how much pain he can deal with Sunday.

"The toe is doing good; I have to take it day-by-day," Best said. "So far I'm going to give it a go tomorrow and see how it feels. But it's gotten a lot better than I thought it was going to get. It's looking real good right now."

That's good for the Lions, who struggled to move the ball on the ground when Best left in the second half last week.

"I feel like I haven't put my best effort yet," Best said. "I still feel like I have a lot more to put out there. I'm still not satisfied."

Looks like Best is gonna go the Brian Westbrook route of being GTD every week and gut it out most of the time. Hopefully he becomes like Westbrook on the field.

You want him to rest, but I'm torn if I want him to play or not... if he doens't I'm screwed at RB this week (SJax and Caddy on bye), but one down week for a healthy rest of the season could be the Best option.Hopefully Friday's practice is a good one for him.

Gotcha Symbius. I'm fortunate at RB to sit him. Lions need him close to 100% to pull a "Bears upset" against the Pack (on a short week)
