(Do you see James Jones coming on like Jennings did last year?)

That's where we're hopeful. James is a very strong receiver. He would be classified as a flanker in our system. Very strong hands. As you've noticed, he's always catching the ball out front of his body. That's what you're looking for. He does a very good job creating separation in a short space, and I think he's off to a good start.

I just picked him up for cheap as a FA in a Zealots league. I was actually just trying to push up his price but the bidding ceased as soon as I upped the bid. I got left holding the bag, but the video and early reviews suggest that I might not end up regretting the acquisition. He looks like far more than the mere "punt returner" I thought the Packers had drafted. Excellent size, great leaper, fantastic hands, and gains a lot of yards after the catch. He's certainly not a burner, and his route-running is nothing special, but he clearly knows how to come down with the ball in traffic. The Packers WR corps is pretty thin and he's got a good shot at contributing fairly early. Thanks for posting!

As usual, I expect Ferguson to get hurt or be cut because they're sick of what seems like waiting for him to get hurt.

Driver and Jennings are a nice 1,2 IMO

Ruvell had 25-26 catches or so in his first actual year playing.

I imagine Jones and Ruvell each backup one of Driver or Jennings and they roll from there.

Favre slings it hard and makes throws other QBs won't so there's a brief adjustment period there too.

IIRC Koren returns in October and that's probably their 5 WRs

Carlisle may stick around too

Jones doesn't have the opportunity to start, so there's little chance of him being Jennings part II

Green Bay has said his physical build is similar to Sterling Sharpe's and there's been references to him "coming out of nowhere" like Jennings last year in mini-camp. Throw in the fact that TT seems to draft well and Favre will spread the ball, he's definitely worth a roster spot in Dynasty leagues. I was happy to get him in the late 3rd round of my rookie draft.

No, for him to come on like Jennings he would have to start and those positions are filled this year. For a rookie to eccel he needs an opening and a QB willing to target him, a lot. If someone gets hurt he has a really good chance as he may be the best receiver they have over the middle. Thats were the comparison to Hines Ward and Boldin comes in.

He could be gold in the red zone if they use him. To make it to "the game" this year they need to figure out how to score inside the 20. Jones could be one of the answers.

Jones is a Chaos Commish favorite. The posters in this thread have captured the key points, strong, physical, deceptively fast/quick, attacks the ball. I wouldnt be surprised at all to see him starting by 09, and if Jennings or Driver gets banged up this year, he could be a decent spot starter.

Favre has struggled in the red zone lately. Not sure how a rookie wideout helps him not throw some many picks down there. For the Packers to get to "the game" they'll need a top 5 defense and a horseshoe up their ###. Back to Jones. I think he fills a nice role being beefier than Drive or Jennings. I think he could make some plays but what the Packers have lacked historically is any kind of depth. He and David Clowney will hopefully provide that. Robert Ferguson is probably 60/40 to make the team but I think his special teams skills will help him there.

Yes, I almost couldn't believe I saw what I saw the first time I saw him last year. So, I made a point to watch him against Fresno State. He was even better. So, I watched his bowl game, comments should be in the FFA btw, and he was just a man among boys yet again. I'm pretty confident he is the real deal. I own him and Jennings and I won't be shocked if Jones has the better career and emerges early this season. I agree it will take an injury, and I agree I could be overly excited about him, but I like receivers who manhandle corners, and he is one of those for sure.

The Packers have said they like his strength and how he catches the ball away from his body. They like him as the slot #3 and I think he'll see a lot of playing time even without an injury. Short over the middle Favre will get him the ball.Rookie receiver James Jones is lining up at the flanker position for the Packers early in the offseason."James is a very strong receiver," coach Mike McCarthy said. "He's always catching the ball out front of his body. That's what you're looking for. He does a very good job creating separation in a short space." We think Jones is the favorite for the third receiver job in Green Bay.Source: Packers.com

I'm not so sure it's thin. Driver, Jennings, KRob, Ruvell Martin, James, Clowney, Ferguson, plus some other guys. If KRob gets his act together, I think Jones is looking at WR4 this season, and maybe for a few years since the guys in front of him aren't that old.I hope not, since I picked him up in a rookie draft, but I'm not counting on anything from him for 2-3 years.

I am always amazed at how muchs tock people put on 40 times, especially at WR. What receiver runs 40 yards in a straight line? There are many factors that make great receivers in the NFL. Is speed one of them? Sure. But getting off the jam, running great routes, and catching the ball are absolutely huge. James Jones appears to have all of these skills except for 4.4 speed.

As a Packer fan, I am really excite about Jones and Jennings for the future.

Yes,
Yeah well I had Hurd and Austin last year and...Bloom what's CC's record on WRs he loves as prospects? We might need to follow those he likes and stay away from those he's really touting :P teasing, I always enjoy the posts CC :banned:
I never pimped Hurd; I didn't know of him; and Austin went undrafted. I never graded him higher than Baskett. Still thought they both should have been drafted, but I never went after any of them in FA. My pickups last year were Berrian in FA early, Jennings in the draft, and Colston after the draft, but before anyone was talking about him around here. If you want my record... that is who I added last year. Also since I'm being unecessarily defensive, Holmes, Jackson, and Moss held no interest with me. I did like Jennings and still love Marshall though. If you have room for a Hurd Austin character, I recommend John Broussard (James Jones roommate from mighty San Jose State University). :banned:

It was last year. When Jennings went down he wasn't able to sit out and heal.

you loved austin as a sleeper/steal type til the draft then faded quick. Stood out to me, feel like I read everything you and Bloom typed here last year.Who cares bro, we're all wrong on some. I was just teasin' thought it was obvious.ya know I love your rookie work, quit making me say it over and over;)
