January 6, 2022 - what will happen (if anything) (1 Viewer)

FairWarning

Any Qanon people here?  I’m sure there will be some low-level protests, maybe even a bomb threat.  I bet security will be beefed-up this year.

The only thing happening will be MSNBC and CNN treating it as if it was the one year anniversary of 9/11, and it's going to be absolutely disgusting.
The tragedy of 9/11 united our country and strengthened our democracy . The 1/6 attack on other US Capital divided our country and weakened our democracy.

Other than that I guess 1/6 was not a significant event

Huh, I haven't seen any news outlet compare January 6th to 9/11 in any way other than a historically significant day.

9/11 was the worst terror attack on US soil.  And January 6th was the worst attack on American democracy in generations.  Unless you think that trying to prevent the peaceful transition of power from taking place based on nothing but lies isn't an attack on American democracy.

Looks like we have more than just MSNBC and CNN to worry about for hyperbole.

If only you were this concerned about our Democracy when BLM/Antifa was rampaging across the country for over a year.

It will be over the top.

Meanwhile a former POTUS will give an address continuing the lies that led to people going there in the first place last year.  That sounds far more disgusting to me than going overboard about a group of people beating cops, chanting to hang members of congress and going after the VP trying to stop the process of certifying the electoral votes.

Just wait until the 6th.

Are you so against civil rights that you perceive protests for them as an assault on democracy?

Like you actually think civil rights protests are worse than actually trying to stop the peaceful transition of power over a lie?

Luckily the America I live in is far far different than the America you must live in.

A Trump statement is another lock.

I only come in the Political Forum sporadically.  Is this the first time you've equated 1/6 with BLM?  I don't think I've ever heard this take from you.

Civil rights protests?  Wut?

They literally burned down neighborhoods, murdered people, looted, took over a 6 square block of a major city and attacked local, state and federal buildings and tried to burn those down as well.

So not only are you revising history, youre cherry picking to boot.

The america i live in is the one where we dont lie and rewrite history.  Everyone is treated equally.

The Democratic party has been dividing our country for decades.  The lack of traceability and accountability in our voting process is what is weakening our democracy

Can you elaborate on how you believe 9/11 strengthened our democracy?

The US has a history of rioting for many many reasons.  Riots are bad.

But to compare a protest that ends in a riot to the attempted prevention of the peaceful transition of power based on a lie is simply nonsense.

Were the Rodney King riots assaults on democracy too?  How about the civil rights riots?  Both resulted in rampant destruction of property and death.

I wonder if he'll tell all of the people getting locked up over his rigged election nonsense that he loves them and they're very special people?
I've often wondered what our collective response would have been if BLM rioters had stormed the capitol building, complete with photos of BLM-versions of the elk guy and the walking-away-with-the-podium guy and the putting-his-feet-up-on-Pelosi's-desk guy.  Call me crazy, but I think a few of the people who downplay 1/6 might have got their dander up over something like that.

Edit: I see now that I quoted the wrong post, but I'm too lazy to change it now so we're just rolling with this.

Can you describe how the democrats are pushing lack of traceability and accountability in the voting process for decades?

What do you mean regarding "The lack of traceability and accountability in our voting process"? Can you expand upon that?

Probably used as political propoganda since the Dems have nothing else going for them at the moment.
The leader in the clubhouse for the Republican nom, the guy who made up all the stuff that caused the riots, is having a press conference on 1/6 to air his grievances still right?

Like denying the results of an election?

It's utterly amazing to me how many people have normalized trying to stop the certification of the results of a free and fair election.  Conservatives 10 years ago would have lost their mind over even the mere thought of that.  Now we have a president who literally requested his VP do it, and people supporting Americans moving into the capitol building to try and stop it.

These people have gone completely off the deep-end.  May as well just go full Q at this point.

Do posters in the PSF count?

How have all those audits and recounts of recounts gone?

That is the issue with the system, it is not set up to be audited.  There is no traceability to know what vote were properly cast and counted and no accountability to know if the person who voted was the person they claimed to be.   They are just reverifying the count, where the votes are not known if they are accurate or if the person who cast them was in fact a legal voter casting a legal ballot.   So we are left with stories of mysterious bag of ballots and guys driving around with car full of ballots bragging about how much he is getting for them.

Opposing all voter ID law efforts and extremely loose absentee voting laws including unattended drop boxes in Democratic rich areas which is ripe for illegal ballot harvesting.  With today's technology there should be a secure way to track every vote such that the voter can verify his vote is recorded properly and that the government can verify who voted.

Hasn’t Trump announced a big speech on January 6? I don’t think any one party has cornered the market on propagandizing key events.

Haven't several states been all mail-in balloting for years with no issue?

The Ninjas had access to everything for like 6 months. Studied bamboo fibers, addresses, signatures, Chinese watermarks, the tides, etc.

Please include at the very least the ex-president and leader of the Republican Party in your complaints regarding the loss of trust in our voting system. He, on tape, asked officials to simply find enough votes for him to win…among a hundred other things.

Im assuming you meant to quote me?

Lemme answer you then.  My issue isn't downplaying 1/6, its the downplaying of BLM/Antifa in comparison to 1/6.

The fake outrage over 1/6 while sitting back and not only saying nothing over BLM/Antifa rampaging across America, but actively supporting it is my issue.  Peaceful protests?  Please.

I agree 1/6 is bad but BLM/Antifa basically did the same thing when it went after local, state and Federal buildings and, once again, LITERALLY took over 6 blocks of a major American city.

1/6 was ONE day.  BLM/Antifa has been 2 years at least.

The hypocrisy is amazing.  I see both as an attack on America and BOTH should have been treated equally but, as evident in this very forum and in the media, its not.

I must have missed all of the GOP uproar over Utah's mail-in system they've used for over a decade.

Amazingly that is how vote by mail works in Colorado.

Also...there should be zero way for the government or even an independent agency to be able to track how someone votes.  If a government agency or indpendant agency even could track how everyone votes by their actual vote.  Can you imagine what happens when that information gets out?  The amount of phone calls and hounding people would get about how they voted?

Voting by mail can be OK if ballots are serialized and tracked.  The issue with some of these laws is it allows people to go door to door and solicit votes and collect them and drop them off.  This uncontrolled sequence allows all kinds of shenanigans from tampering with the ballots, selectively turning in ballots, or even filling out or creating ballots  for voters.

Since no one in the GOP seems to have a problem with it, I'd be fine with all states adopting Utah's system. How about you?
