January 6 Defendants & Discussion (3 Viewers)

Federal prosecutors previously leveled the historically rare charge of seditious conspiracy for the first time in the Jan. 6 attack against the founder and leader of the extremist group Oath Keepers, Stewart Rhodes, and 10 associates. Since filing the charges in January, a year after the mob violence, two of Rhodes’s co-defendants and one other Oath Keeper member have pleaded guilty to the charge and are cooperating with the Justice Department: Joshua James, 34, of Alabama, Brian Ulrich, 44, of Georgia, and William Todd Wilson, 44, of North Carolina.

But the new charges show that prosecutors are pulling together a wider picture of organization within extremist groups that shared overlapping if not common goals.

At the same time, the deepening criminal investigation has exposed hints of coordination among groups, even as the FBI and Justice Department are expanding their probe into the ranks of former president Donald Trump’s political orbit. The House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack is expected to shine a spotlight on such connections in public hearings beginning Thursday.

Leader of The Proud Boys and three other PBs indicted for Seditious Conspiracy.

Would really be something if some of these guys were meeting with Trump's folks immediately before the assault on the Capitol.
It would be nice to at least see Roger Stone in jail for all his sedition...

“On Jan. 2, longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone participated in a Proud Boys effort to pressure Sen. Marco Rubio to not certify the results of the election. Mr. Tarrio led about two dozen Trump supporters in front of Mr. Rubio’s Miami home, while Mr. Stone called in to the rally to speak to the crowd.”

Enrique Tarrio, other Proud Boys, indicted on seditious conspiracy charges

“Brother. You know we made this happen... I’m so proud of my country today,” the unnamed individual wrote, according to the indictment.

“I know,” Tarrio replied.

The unnamed person then responds with "1776" and a profanity, a reference to the U.S. Revolution.

“The Winter Palace,” Tarrio responded, referencing the Russian revolution, according to the indictment.

“Dude. Did we just influence history?” the person later responded, before Congress had returned to certify the election results.

“Let’s first see how this plays out,” Tarrio replied, according to the indictment.

So proud of their sedition…

Newly released Jan. 6 video filmed by Capitol rioter Nolan Kidd, which was shown at his sentencing hearing. (Created the evidence against himself… not a very smart MAGA)

"WE BROKE IN! WE OWN THIS BUILDING! THIS IS OUR HOUSE!"

"WE BROKE THROUGH THE LINE!... Police been shootin', tear gassin', but we got it, we're in."

"I'm the only girl that made it into the Senate!" -- Stephanie McDonald

"We love the police, but y'all gotta do better," Nolan Kidd before disobeying police and going back into the Capitol.

I mean…. Just hard core idiocy…

WASHINGTON — A Republican candidate for governor in Michigan was arrested by the FBI on Thursday and charged with misdemeanors for his role in the U.S. Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, the agency said.

Enrique Tarrio and group of Proud Boys defendants plead NOT GUILTY to seditious conspiracy and other Jan 6 charges from superseding indictment

Jack Del Rio apparently doesn’t mind wading into this mess.

Not so sure this is going to turn out great for him.
As much as I complain about people being too corporate, you really have to question this guy's decision making ability.  Whether or not you have some sympathy for his perspective, its the choice to use his career platform for this "opinion sharing" that you have to wonder about.

Not to mention the whole "blacks rioting is way more dangerous than attempted insurrection" bias.

Awesome.    Now they can go to trial and get maximum sentences instead of making plea deals.

Not funny. That's a really, really bad look. I don't care. "Lock her up" wasn't funny, neither is that. Weaponizing your own powers of prosecution and defense are two frightening things I've seen take a drastic turn for the worse, starting with and noticeably, President Obama (sadly, as I wish he were still in charge). This sort of thing has got to stop. Even jokes. It reveals a willingness to lock people up over disagreements, and who knows how far that goes.

Awful look there.

Lock 'em or her up as a chant is a really bad thing for democracy, and Biden should know better. He should say, "I would say send them directly to jail, but that's not what we do with political opponents that disagree within the confines of the law."

Now, one can argue that Republicans aren't within the confines of the law, but that seems like an exceedingly hard charge to make when what they've really done is messed with parliamentary procedure in the Senate and not outright violated laws. Those that have violated laws, need to be prosecuted, but political corruption is its own subject entirely, a subject rife with caveats and considerations in a democracy.

He specifically asked him what to do with people not following the rules and playing Monopoly - come on.

DOJ is recommending a four-month jail sentence for Jan. 6 defendant Thomas Baranyi, who was within feet of Ashli Babbitt when she was shot near the Speaker’s Lobby.

Baranyi, as depicted here, was right next to Babbitt when she tried to climb into the Speaker’s lobby and was shot.

DOJ says the crowd outside the House chamber was “culpable in Babbitt’s death,”

It won't be over for these folks until the statute of limitations runs.

I hope the justice department goes after those at the top like they are doing with the lemmings.

Dad who carried Confederate flag into Capitol heads to trial

Widely published photographs showed Kevin Seefried carrying a Confederate battle flag inside the Capitol after he entered the building with his son, Hunter. The Seefrieds were “early, aggressive and active participants” in the Capitol breach and among the first rioters to enter the building on Jan. 6, 2021, prosecutors have said.

DOJ says Jan. 6 defendant Ryan Samsel (who investigators believe instigated the breach of the Capitol perimeter) has refused a court-ordered medical evaluation and sent a disturbing letter on June 2 about putting “poltions [sic]” through a “woodchipper.”

Ryan Samsel is one of the worst of all the Capitol Insurrectionist criminals...

He famously Beat His Pregnant Girlfriend and Threw Her Into a Canal.

And he was seen talking to Ray Epps, (The former President of the Arizona chapter of the Oath Keepers), just before the perimeter was breached and Samsel knocked Capitol Police Officer Caroline Edwards unconscious.

This guy needs to stay locked up... for a long time.

North Florida prison guard loses job, housing after guilty plea in U.S. Capitol riot

Jonathan Daniel Carlton, who worked at Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, “is now not only unemployed, but he will lose his subsidized housing that was provided as part of his employment.”

Carlton, 46, pleaded guilty in March to parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building in return for prosecutors dropping three other misdemeanor counts.

“While Carlton accepts responsibility for his actions, he was guided and urged every step of the way by no less of an authority than the former President of the United States and a majority of Republican Senators and Congressman that continued to repeat the 'Big Lie' that the election had been stolen by the Democrats,” Landes (Carlton's lawyer) told the judge.

Reading his back story, how in the world was this guy out on the streets in the first place?   I don't get it.  He raped and/or beat 3 different women that we know of.....and he's a free man?

His behavior that day, prosecutors say, is consistent with his past. In 2009, for example, Samsel was apparently convicted of assault and reckless endangerment when he held a woman against her will for five hours, choked her to the point of unconsciousness, beat her up, and chipped her teeth.

Two years later, he was convicted on charges linked to attacking his pregnant girlfriend. Prosecutors said he smashed a hot pizza in her face, beat her up, threw her into a canal, and held her head under water. She escaped from him and ran barefoot through the street until she saw a parked police vehicle and “desperately tried to open the door” until the officer saw her and unlocked it so she could get in.

Years later, another woman said that Samsel had choked her to the point of unconsciousness on several occasions, raped her, and broken into her house multiple times to attack her. She obtained a restraining order against him, but said he had violated it multiple times.
