But that doesn't change the fact that individuals charged with very "bad" crimes or their family members, who might otherwise cry out for unreasonably harsh sentences for other defendants, will often irrationally claim that those same harsh sentences shouldn't apply to his or his family member.

I have not seen any media reports providing a verbatim account of what the factual basis was for Jared's guilty plea. To your point, I think it's safe to call Jared a sick pig, but it's somewhat of a stretch to say he'd sleep with a pre-pubescent child or that he should be imprisoned for decades.

Sleeping with a 16 year old is enough for me to put you away for decades.
