6. I'd note that Jared has not been charged with sleeping with a six year old and, from what I can gather, has not even been charged with attempting or soliciting sex with a 6 year old. He had sex with 16 and 17 year olds - suggest that he's a hebephile or ephebophile. He's also been charged with possessing child pornography. Nothing indicates that that he produced any porn or tried to sleep with a small child. He's committed bad and disgusting crimes, but those suggesting he should get the death penalty or that what he did is worse than murdering two people in cold blood are irrational.
I would agree except that the complaint states his request was 'the younger the better'. Murder is a higher crime than any sexual assualt even on a minor. Should he get the death penalty? No, though that would feel right but for the legal system that would be out of place. I certainly would not shed a tear if he got shanked in prison and bled out on the shower floor after being abused- I have no sympathy for someone like him. NONE. And the 'younger the better' makes the actual age of the victims a matter of opportunity in my mind so I am not too worried about them being 16 or 17. He is still a sick pig.
7. A complaint is simply a list of allegations amounting to evidence which the state believes provides probable cause for the defendant to be charged with a crime. What is stated in the complaint are supposed facts that have not been subject to any sort of confrontation or refutation, whether by cross-examination or otherwise. In other words, when you see a complaint the alleged facts should be taken with a grain of salt. Here, we have no idea as to the credibility of the speaker providing the police with this hearsay statement and are not privy to the context of which the statement may have been made. Instead, a more reliable source of facts on this case would have been the "factual basis" provided by either the State or the defendant (which the other side confirmed) when the plea was taken. I have not seen any media reports providing a verbatim account of what the factual basis was for Jared's guilty plea. To your point, I think it's safe to call Jared a sick pig, but it's somewhat of a stretch to say he'd sleep with a pre-pubescent child or that he should be imprisoned for decades.
Sleeping with a 16 year old is enough for me to put you away for decades.

Chadstroma, I realize you probably have a young daughter and that is why your opinion is so strong. However, legally there is nothing wrong with having sex with a 16 year old for the majority of the US (30 states) and most every other country in the world.

Interestingly the US consent laws came about by women's movements around the turn of the century (1900) with the primary intent to abolish prostitution, not to protect poor 16 year old Sally who was not emotionally mature enough to have sex with older Billy.

I have no problem with Jared paying for sex with 16 and 17 year olds if they were of legal age in the state that the act occurred (Our prostitution laws are as stupid as our age of consent laws* in my opinion). His paying for sex with anyone under 16 is wrong, and the filming of children and teenagers and collecting child porn are disgusting and he deserves whatever punishment is doled out by his fellow inmates.

*I believe there should be a standard age of consent nationwide.
unless its YOUR daughter lol
It's someone's daughter.
And the defendant is also someone son's, husband, father, brother, etc.

People always want to be tough on crime until it's them or their family members that get in trouble. Then it's a "corrupt", "unfair", or "crazy" system that doesn't understand that they are just good people who made a mistake.

I understand that. But that doesn't change the fact that individuals charged with very "bad" crimes or their family members, who might otherwise cry out for unreasonably harsh sentences for other defendants, will often irrationally claim that those same harsh sentences shouldn't apply to his or his family member.

Agree. These girls were underage prostitutes right? And he is into barely illegal porn. That's quite different from kiddie porn and raping kindergartners.
My impression is that very few underage prostitutes get into the game themselves because the local Orange Julius isn't hiring over the summer. There's a decent chance that any underage prostitute is a victim of sex trafficking, which we might look at more harshly than if this was just an Amy Fisher situation.

I don't think you could classify the child porn as "barely illegal," whatever that means.
Does Orange Julius still exist?
I'm old! Leave me alone!
I'm not giving you grief, I just read Orange Julius and started salivating. I am also old. And I want an Orange Julius.
I had an Orange Julius cocktail last week. Orange vodka, orange liqour, orange juice; top with whip cream then shake that thing and put a straw in it.

Sleeping with a 16 year old is enough for me to put you away for decades.
Yet there are numerous countries and a number of states which find such acts legal.
Yup- including marrying 10 year old girls off to 50 year old men. You think that is ok because you can find some sick bastards who think that is a good idea?

There is a lot of slavery around the world. Perfectly acceptable to people in parts of the world. Good with that?

Some parts of the world are inclined to favor a particular gender and if they find out they are pregnant with the 'wrong' gender, they abort the baby. Totally fine.

We are not talking about an 18 year old boy dating a 16 year old girl and then they have sex. We are talking about a grown man who has consumed child pornography and was involved in production of child porn with his non-profit org buddy that then crossed state lines to have sex with a young prostitute and asked that young prostitute to find younger women for him. "The younger the better".
You pretty much like in Utah?

If this was actually recorded, I'm very surprised he didn't get a soliciting charge.

Fogle, a pitchman for Subway at the time, was attending a health event at a school in Florida in 2007 when the incident occurred
this really bothers me because

Herman said she notified law enforcement authorities, and the FBI asked her to wear a wire to record her conversations with Fogle.

For years, she said, she worked undercover with authorities to gather evidence against Fogle.
so it took our crack team of expert government men 8 ####### years of Jared and his buddy diddling youngsters to finally bring a case>? If I'm the parent of one of these kids, i'm finding the guys on the investigation and killing them with my bare hands.

so it took our crack team of expert government men 8 ####### years of Jared and his buddy diddling youngsters to finally bring a case>? If I'm the parent of one of these kids, i'm finding the guys on the investigation and killing them with my bare hands.
Hard to disagree with this.

Could the victims sue the FBI/Investigation team here? Are they liable for already knowing what is going on and taking forever to do anything with it? Leading to more victims?

Except Jared wasn't exactly "diddling youngsters". He was a pervert who had sex with 17 year old prostitutes in a state where doing so isn't illegal (hence why Jared is being prosecuted under a federal statute) and got some pictures from his even more perverted buddy. The pictures Jared received weren't manufactured by Jared so, realistically, they'd be out there all the same.

Jared is a pervert who deserves to do some time. But it's usually not a crime to say disgusting things so simply recording Jared say things like he finds middle school girls attractive is likely not enough for the FBI to act.

They need proof to move. If he's just talking about it on tape, what kind of case would they have? A good lawyer could easily have the case dismissed and then the guy has been tipped off as to law enforcement being involved. If you called the fbi today and said your neighbor told you he was a drug dealer, they're just going to instantly arrest him and put him on trial?

And it's very unlikely anybody can sue the FBI here.

He wanted girls under 16 and tried to get a mom to let him watch her kids on a securty cam.

How does anybody ever feel comfortable asking a mom for something like that?? And asking her to select which one she'd like him to watch!?!?
